https://www.premier.org.uk/News/UK/...ing-calls-to-quit-over-homosexuality-comments Christian professor facing calls to quit over homosexuality comments Wed 09 Jan 2019 By Alex Williams A Roman Catholic academic at the University of Oxford has denied authoring homophobic writings after students started a petition demanding he be removed from his post. More than 350 people have signed a petition which accuses Prof John Finnis of "a long record of extremely discriminatory views against many groups of disadvantaged people". The emeritus professor of law and legal philosophy told The Oxford Student newspaper: "The petition travesties my position, and my testimony in American constitutional litigation. "Anyone who consults the Law Faculty website and follows the links in the petition can see the petition's many errors. "I stand by all these writings. There is not a 'phobic' sentence in them." The petition alleges that Finnis described homosexuality as "destructive". It also alleges he compared homosexual acts to bestiality in a 1994 paper published by the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics and Public Policy. The article, called 'Law, Morality and Sexual Orientation', says "the deliberate genital coupling of persons of the same sex is repudiated...". Signatories also urge the University of Oxford to "clarify its official position" on academics who hold discriminatory views. A spokesperson for the institution said: "Oxford University and the Faculty of Law promote an inclusive culture which respects the rights and dignity of all staff and students. "We are clear we do not tolerate any form of harassment of individuals on any grounds, including sexual orientation. "Equally, the University's harassment policy also protects academic freedom of speech and is clear that vigorous academic debate does not amount to harassment when conducted respectfully and without violating the dignity of others. "All of the University's teaching activity, including that in the Faculty of Law, is conducted according to these principles."
Dry martyrdom. Coming to a university/corporation/hospital/medical practice/bakery/any business you name--near you. Preview of coming attractions.
Poor Professor Finnis was on the radio this morning his defense was somewhat along the lines of, 'Some of my best friends are gay!'. Poor man. They dug this up from an old paper of his from the 1990's. In it he said adultery and extra marital relations were also wrong. Horror! He is a retired emeritus Professor so no one has to go to his lectures anyway. Poor old man. It's all up when a Philosophy Professor can no longer Philosophise. Or apparently hold a Christian position.
Reminds me of what I read in histories of Nazi era in Germany. Young thugs ousted professors who didn't adhere to tbe party line. Everything old is new again.
All faithful Catholics better prepare for this same stuff coming our way......cause it is. Truth above all else.
Is there a counter-petition we can sign? We can't stand back and let these radicals push us into a corner. They are wrong and immoral and use street thug bullying tactics to get their way. They are the modern political equivalent of Hitler's Brown Shirts.
Catholic teachings and anyone who supports them (at any time in their lives) being violently pushed out of the public square. Go figure. How long before it is no longer permissible even in our own Churches and homes? This dry martyrdom may soon turn wet. It has become a liability to be a practicing Catholic in the public square.
I wonder what Socrates and Plato would have made of this, 'You can't say that kind of stuff around here!' idea.? But wait they made Socrates drink poison for the very same thing. So there's noting new under the sun. A Philosophy were you can't think certain kind of thoughts. How weird is that? How , 'Liberal', is , 'Liberal'? If it were me I would go down fighting like Professor Jordan Petersen. They're going to hate us anyway, might as well go down fighting and clawing. None of this , 'Some of my best friends are gay', stuff'. Treat a Tiger like a Tiger.
I love this from a Zen Master on the , 'Culture War' and the fight against evil. The Doshin Nelson Roshi says that post modern egalitarian relativism. , 'Leads us into a swamp that has no exit'. Oh I so wish our Bishops might speak with so much clarity!!
The grave danger for the CHurch in all this is that they believe that by feeding the Hungry Tiger (The World) by feeding it their won body parts (such as Chinese Christians and the likes of Professor John Finnis and pro life campaigners) that they will satisfy the Tiger's Hunger and it will leave the est alone. But not so for the more you feed the dragon with your own people (like for instance Fr Mark Goring) the hungrier the Tiger will become. and the more it will want to eat. We must beware of the fact that if we refuse to fight the Tiger; that we ourselves become eaten by the Tiger and actually become the Tiger ourselves. In fact today's mass reading speaks to this. First reading 1 John 5:14-21 © If we ask for anything, he will hear us We are quite confident that if we ask the Son of God for anything, and it is in accordance with his will, he will hear us; and, knowing that whatever we may ask, he hears us, we know that we have already been granted what we asked of him. If anybody sees his brother commit a sin that is not a deadly sin, he has only to pray, and God will give life to the sinner – not those who commit a deadly sin; for there is a sin that is death, and I will not say that you must pray about that. Every kind of wrong-doing is sin, but not all sin is deadly. We know that anyone who has been begotten by God does not sin, because the begotten Son of God protects him, and the Evil One does not touch him. We know that we belong to God, but the whole world lies in the power of the Evil One. We know, too, that the Son of God has come, and has given us the power to know the true God. We are in the true God, as we are in his Son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God, this is eternal life. Children, be on your guard against false gods.
I admire Jordan Peterson because he wont vack down and he is do articulate. He just fires his words like silver bullets and down go their emotional rants one by one. Of course they hate him. His logic and skill are finely honed blades.
Yes but it is so ironic and so sad that we should be hearing the Truths from non Catholics that Our own Catholic Spiritual Fathers are supposed to teach us. The Church at the moment is teaching us to feed the Tiger rather than to fight him. This is what the Doctrine of , 'Accompaniment' , is all about. Feeding the tiger.
Couldn't agree more. I have sometimes said to others in this context: what? You think the lion's going to eat you last?
Why do you think this is padraig? It seems we have so very few in the hierarchy of the Church from priests on up who are even able to see the truth let alone manage to speak it.
We may yet feed him if we fight but as the saying goes if you are going to die; die with your boots on! Revelation 13:10 [9] If any man have an ear, let him hear. [10] He that shall lead into captivity, shall go into captivity: he that shall kill by the sword, must be killed by the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
The more I ask myself this question the more I come back to Sister Lucy's statement that Our Lady said a wave of Diabolical Disorientation would sweep over the clergy. It seems to me this started in the 1960's due to their disobedience and has gotten progressively worse and worse. Now when I look at what they are doing they seem so totally disoriented they are not even making rational decisions anymore.
A little less raucous but none the less hair raising in its own right considering the signs of the times. Recognize the first verse? A Hymn: O God of Earth and Altar by G.K. Chesterton O God of earth and altar, Bow down and hear our cry, Our earthly rulers falter, Our people drift and die; The walls of gold entomb us, The swords of scorn divide, Take not thy thunder from us, But take away our pride. From all that terror teaches, From lies of tongue and pen, From all the easy speeches That comfort cruel men, From sale and profanation Of honour and the sword, From sleep and from damnation, Deliver us, good Lord. Tie in a living tether The prince and priest and thrall, Bind all our lives together, Smite us and save us all; In ire and exultation Aflame with faith, and free, Lift up a living nation, A single sword to thee.
