What a bunch of idiots who are only looking for their personal 15 min. of fame doing one more "wreck ovation" to add to all the rest. Why not just turn it into another MacDonald's w/ workers dressed like monks and nuns! No shame. No class. No respect for the REAL architects who built it. Macron is responsible for putting the sacred up for bids. Here Come the Architects: Modernists Want Glass Roof, Steel Spire, or Minaret for Notre Dame Modern architects have begun circling the charred remains of Notre Dame, proposing that it should not be faithfully restored, but rebuilt with “contemporary” features such as a glass roof, steel spire, or even a minaret. With leading academics and professionals in architecture generally being hostile to building or restoring anything in styles predating the infamous Le Corbusier (Charles-Édouard Jeanneret) and the Bauhaus school, they were quick to pounce when President Emmanuel Macron’s prime minister announced there would be a competition to “ask the question of whether we should even recreate the spire as it was conceived by… Or if, as is often the case in the evolution of heritage, we should endow Notre-Dame with a new spire”. The Telegraph published an article claiming it would be a “travesty” to restore Notre Dame as it was just a day after the fire, while Rolling Stone quoted a Harvard architecture historian as saying that the burning of a building “so overburdened with meaning… feels like an act of liberation.” Now proposals for a new spire are beginning to come together, and leading architects do indeed appear to be pushing for a “contemporary” spire in the ubiquitous glass and steel style used for modern buildings all over the world. Lord Norman Foster, arguably Britain’s most famous modern architect, has unveiled a design topping the ancient cathedral with a glass and steel canopy with a featureless glass and steel spire, which he described as “a work of art about light” which would be “contemporary and very spiritual and capture the confident spirit of the time” in comments to The Times. Ian Ritchie, a modern architect most famous for the so-called Spire of Dublin — a metal spike erected in the Irish capital — is mulling a proposal along similar lines, which he describes as “a refracting, super-slender reflecting crystal to heaven” or a beautiful contemporary tracery of glass crystals and stainless steel” — i.e. a featureless glass and steel spire. Perhaps most controversial is a proposal in Domus, the architecture magazine, by Tom Wilkinson, for the fallen spire to be replaced with an Islamic minaret, to memorialise Algerians who protested the French government in the 1960s. https://www.breitbart.com/europe/20...nt-glass-roof-steel-spire-minaret-notre-dame/
Oh this makes me so sad. Notre Dame Cathedral was built to Glorify the Lord, and dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. The restoration of ND should not be thrown to the wolves.
More attacks on Catholic Churches and Catholics, this time in Sri Lanka and on Easter no less!! Initial reports are that at least 40 killed and hundreds injured in a series of bombings targeting Catholics on Easter Sunday: https://www.rt.com/news/457129-sri-lanka-church-hotel-blasts/
The Church is alive and growing in Sri Lanka. No wonder the Devil is targeting them. Your family will be in my prayers in a special way today.
Over 150 dead, according to the Mail on Sunday. May these martyrs lead to many conversions. One can expect that the population on the Indian sub-continent will not be so politically-correct at directing responsibility at those guilty of this monstrous act of hatred. The Islamists cannot hide behind attacks upon the Ummah by Sri Lankans as they do to justify their attacks upon the West.
I read a book a couple of years ago by a member of a very courageous Protestant group that evangelises in the Islamic world. He wasn't hostile to Catholics, either, and celebrated the success of Catholic missionaries, also. He claims, with considerable evidence and conviction, that significant progress is being made, but the nature of Mohammedan intolerance implies that such success remains hidden. He made the point that many ordinary Mohammedans are disgusted by such carnage as this and that this can be a cause of conversion in a large number of cases. He instances cases where remorseful terrorists also converted in response to the horror of what they had done. Apparently, many of these conversions involve visions and other mystical experiences. In the light of such witness, enacted in a fearful coalface, perhaps the attempts by Pope Francis and other members of the Church to reach out might not be entirely counter-productive. Saying that, I'm certainly not advocating any softness towards Mohammedanism. It is certainly our greatest enemy, but we need to remember that its principle victims are Muslims themselves.
I agree ! My gosh....that was a vintage Holy card....with Notre Dame on fire? I too would like to know more...it’s origins... MICHAEL Matt said someone sent it to him.
