A wise man once said: Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting (the) other person(s) to suffer.

At mass today I was struggling a lot with anger, guilt, scrupulosity and feelings of betrayal and suspicion over the whole thing. After mass, as I was praying, I was still struggling and cried out inside to Our Lady for help and I suddenly found myself being brought to say an Act of Charity:

O my God, I love Thee with my whole heart, mind, will and soul, because Thou art all-good and worthy of all my love. I love my neighbour as myself for Thine sake. I forgive all who have injured me, and I beg pardon for all whom I have injured.

    Thank dear Blessed Mother.

Beautiful. I struggle with intrusive thoughts, too. It's pretty bad. I am increasingly amazed how many people from our generation do. Keep going, friend. Christ be with you.

Thanks. I guess our generation was just too overstimulated from all the media and technology in this day and age. I have been improving though, my efforts at custody of the mind and rejecting intrusive thoughts are becoming much more effective now, although angry thoughts seem to be much harder to control than other thoughts. I’ve got to work on being more positive and grateful.

Praise be to God! That's great, friend! I agree that the technological / internet plunge has somehow damaged / hurt the gen y and gen z crowd. Spiritually and emotionally. In Christ, though, all healing is possible. I hope you have an awesome Christmas, dear friend. I miss your friendship, and am glad to hear you're doing better! God be with you, brother.

Thank you sister! I miss your friendship too, I haven’t been able to speak to my friends as often as I used to. I am grateful for having valuable support here on MOG. I hope you too have an awesome and merry Christmas, I’ve been keeping you and your husband in my prayers by the way. :)

I thought of you, RosaryWielder when watching this video:

Fr. Heilman and his friend Doug are talking to Fr. Calloway about a book Fr. Calloway has written to encourage consecration to St. Joseph. The whole video is worth watching but it was the segment beginning at about the 40 minute mark that brought you to mind. They talk in that segment about the Rosary and the effect regularly praying the Rosary has on the brain. It seems that some scientific studies are showing that meditating on the rosary can change the chemical balance in the brain. They're focusing on addictions like porn, drugs, etc. but I think it could apply to any "spirit is willing but flesh is weak" situation.

    Happy Christmas.

Thanks I'll be watching it right away. I have been saying the Rosary but sometimes I get quite distracted and have difficulty meditating. I have been saying one Rosary on the Joyful Mysteries everyday during these 12 Days of Christmas; with the intention of receiving all the graces available during this season, should help.

Looking back now though, this Advent has been very fruitful for me, I am grateful for that.

With the attention span of a flea, I find that reading the relevant passages in the Bible is very helpful, especially for the Joyful Mysteries. It takes longer but it really helps keep me focused. I prefer using my own Bible (on kindle) but there are youtube videos with the Bible verses interspersed through the Hail Marys and I use them when I'm pushed for time.

You're making great progress. You're maturing as a person as your faith deepens. Some people grow old but never grow up. You're growing up. Self-discipline is part of the process. Congratulations on all you have achieved thus far.

    Dolours is right. It’s noticeable,RW.
God is giving you the graces you are seeking and you have grown.

    Thanks everyone.

I've watched the video now, I do have a bit of devotion to Saint Joseph and do look to him as the ideal of what a real man should be. However, my devotion still needs a lot of work, I do have my own prayer to him though:

The humble and chaste Saint Joseph, pray for me,
make my heart meek and humble like unto thy Son's,
grant me the meekness, humility and chastity of a real man!
