I suppose that people took whatever meaning they wanted from Trump's remarks. Watching the press conference, I took his meaning to be that medical experts would be looking at ways to safely incorporate into medical treatment whatever kills the virus outside the body - along the lines of the way treatments like chemotherapy were developed. I've also read that UV light is used to treat some illnesses whereby the patient's blood is removed, treated with the UV light and returned to the body. He's not a doctor so I wouldn't expect him to use precise medical terminology. The hyped up reaction was to be expected and it looks like his advisers decided it was better to pass off his remarks as sarcasm. What I find frustrating is the European media denigrating him every chance they get. I suppose it detracts from Europe's, especially the EU's, abysmal response to the Pandemic. They might have something to crow about had any European country come to Italy's aid when the Italian health service was overwhelmed. There's a huge difference between a fully equipped ship being despatched to New York within weeks and the Germans eventually airlifting a handful of patients out of Italy after Spain looked like being overwhelmed and people in both countries started raising questions about the EU's every country for itself response when the chips were down. I suppose they think that as long as they can point the finger at Trump's political incorrectness nobody will notice how inept have been their own political masters.
Our inability to attend Mass is TEMPORARY. The underground Church, our brothers & sisters in China have had but a short taste of the JOY most of us have enjoyed as long as we have been able to sacramentally receive in Word and Eucharist. Jesus, Let us never again take Your Mass for granted!! I want an emoticon for sneaking, crawling, hiding behind a tree or under bushes! The heartbreak of it all!!
Just received the results from yesterday's covid-19 test. I don't usually enjoy "negative news", but I'm healthy and can kiss my wife again! Safe on the Father's Lap!
I believe that Trump was referring to these new treatments.....as he offered the hydroxychloriquine previously. He keeps up on successful trials and offers the suggestions which seem to overrule the "experts" which have proven anything but re: this pandemic. He actually influenced the FDA I believe to give that permission for such use of hydroxychloriquine by physicians as they see fit for their individual patients. This video in question was taken down on Friday. I did go to the link today and that notice offered in the article was on the screen. Dolours, I think your assessment of Trump's remarks is far more reasonable and generous than may be warranted. As an outsider I don't have allegiance to any political view in America. I suppose my comment was prompted by his habit of saying 'outlandish' things and then disowning those comments (I'm being generous here) when questioned later. I find it hard to understand how he gets a 'free pass' from so many people there in spite of his questionable character and less than convincing performance. People may have their own interpretation of what he said but it prompted the makers of Dettol (among others) to issue a warning about the dangers of ingesting disinfectant. I don't think you can blame this one on European media, or any media for that matter, he managed quite well himself.
Would you prefer the character and performance of Obama who gave the country Godless, socialism/communism, open boarders and the worst economy since the great depression? There are countries that still provide this if this appeals to you. Trump brought back hope and change to make America Great Again, which he has done. No leader in any country has done more for Pro-life causes then Trump. No leader has done more for religious freedom then Trump. No one has resisted socialism/communism more than Trump. Perfect no, but he is a leader that will not promote the dismantling of the country that has been a beacon of freedom throughout the world since its foundation, with only a few exceptions, such as the Obama era.
Trump made a stupid remark. Who hasn't? He seems to talk a lot, but hardly ever puts his foot in it. He will just learn from it. Overall, he seems to be doing a very good job, no matter what the Chinese media says (I say that in the sense that most of our journalists seem to be agents of China). This Irishman is also an outsider, but there are certain ideas and policies that one cannot remain outside of. US politics has long moved on from prudential, old-fashioned political horse-trading to a fundamental alignment between the opposing forces of good and evil. As I see it, elements of the Republican Party, and Trump is very prominently among them, still promote a broadly Christian world-view, while their opposition have opted almost exclusively for the being to whom Obama's mentor, Alinski, dedicated his central ideas.
Fatima, apologies if my comment touched a nerve. As I made clear in my reply to Dolours, I don't live in America and have no political ties to it. I'm not well versed enough to comment on the situation there but if the majority feel he's doing a good job then he'll get to continue after November.
De Gaulle, I'm also from Ireland. As you say he "seems to talk a lot". That was what I was commenting on. His inordinate desire to be front and centre and to keep talking, no matter how ludicrous it sounds and then do an about turn when questioned on it. Sometimes 'less is more'. I'm not questioning his political or religious views. I'm not familiar with Alinski but will look into his ideas / influence.
