There is also the musician playing the organ/piano, cantor, maybe additional Priests or a Deacon depending on the church and the person operating the camera. Sorry, i have noticed these details. I have also noticed, only the Priests & Deacons are receiving Our Lord in Eucharist.
This strikes me more out of personal reverence. Of course that depends on the person's heart. I personally have never felt a sense of "theatrical show" in the Priest or congregation. My radar is more sensitive to reverence and passion...does the priest and my fellow parishioners truly know this is Christ in the Sacrifice and stress it as he (Priest) is consecrating in the Transubstantiation?
OH BOY! The one parish in my Diocese, OK my city that does provide the Extraordinary Form once a week is more and more packed! Also, the Ad Orientum New Mass with Eucharist with "imaginary" Communion Rail is also packed! People are encouraged to go there if that is what they are looking for.
I heard of an entire Diocese in the West Coast of the USA which is thinking of going over tothe Extraordinary Rite because it has proved so popular. Perhaps it is cases like that are causing the Vatican to act. It's simply too popular.
Where I am, these others are strictly not allowed to be there. But like I said, it is incomprehensible that the priest/bishop has his back to Jesus even when there are no parishioners in the pews. That's the result of making the Mass more about man than about God. +
I was walking through the Park last week when I met a lady from our Parish who is a lay Reader and whose husband is a Eucharistic Minister. I mentioned to her how hard it was not to be able to go to mass every day. She gave me a lecture in how necessary it was for the Churches to be closed and there be no more Public Masses to protect Public Health. In either case she informed me she herself got to go to mass every day as she did the readings and was an essential Parishioner at the service. I gritted my teeth and moved onwards, crunching me teeth together fiercely at the unfairness of it all; that I was not considered part of the Parish Elite. That I was not deemed one of the Elite Parish, 'Essentials'. Then I recalled an incident a few weeks ago. My local Church of the Immaculate Heart run by the priestly society of Christ the King has remained open for Adoration. The only Church in our Diocese to do so. To my great surprise a delegation of three or four of my local Parish lay, 'Elite' (Readers and Eucharistic Ministers) showed up on a flying visit to the Church. The nest day word came from the Bishop that the Church was to be locked down at once. I am beginning to put two and two together and get four. That the Elite had gone to the Bishop to get lock down. I hope I am wrong but I suspect so. More fierce teeth gritting. Institute of Christ the King, Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Belfast.
I don’t know if this was posted anywhere on the forum, but I watched this video of the symbolism of the pre-1955 rite, it’s really beautiful.
I have seen several of this priest's catechisms. He seems to have a whole series. This one was really instructional. I think more and more of this is needed these days to actually catechize generations of Catholics who do not know the nuts and bolts of their faith. Very nice presentation.
Yes, he has done a bible study on the Gospel of Matthew in several installments among other things. I agree, more priests need to be doing this.
Ouch, some are good at that. They quickly overlook why there is a need for compassion and to keep their mouth's shut. I'm sorry you were given such stinging words. It is very humbling to be a Reader, Music Director, Cantor at this time! Also, requires much grace NOT to ask if she was afforded the humble treasure to receive Eucharist herself. Padraig, I encourage you to let that hurt go.
I do but there are such funny, spooky things going on around us. Sometimes it takes time to step back and see them. A for instance without the Churches being open many Parishes and Dioceses are rapidly approaching Bankruptcy. Many were already in dire straits. Many, many Parishes will never reopen again. By all accounts in the UK Churches will not reopen for at least and other year. Yet Bishops and priests and laity seem almost unconcerned. Almost as though it doesn't matter. This is spooky in Capital letters.
Perhaps some (many?) just see it as a job? Grounded in the earth and not on heavenly things so it's no big deal to them? Perhaps I am being harsh?
Well then thank goodness I never wrote such a thing. Nor do I think it is a simple case of black and white. I personally very much prefer the Extraordinary Rite. If other people prefer the Novus Ordo Rite I am fine with that too. Sometimes I attend the Novus Ordo; sometimes the Extraordinary Rite. But I do prefer the Extraordinary Rite. In a simliar way I have a preference for Carmelite Spirituality. That does mean I criticise Franciscan Spirituality or Dominican or Jesuit, I just prefer the Carmelite Tradition. I would not say it is a better or worse its, just another path. The same as the Latin mass. I prefer it. Doctrinaire Traditionalists might say something different. I don't.
The priest that celebrates our Latin Mass told me personally that it is not the intention for those attending to necessarily hear his prayers as he celebrates mass. As you rightly stated, those close enough to the altar and the altar servers can hear his prayers, but it’s not necessarily that others do. His prayers, as I understood him, are intended for God...the mass is directed to God...our focus should not be on the priest, on attendees, or anything other than the holy sacrifice...if I understood correctly. I am fairly new to the Latin rite, but this is my understanding.
I would suggest that contributers to this tread should checkout bournemouthoratory.org.uk Mass is celebrated facing the Tabernacle and at 6pm on 1st Friday (tomorrow ) mass is celebrated in the extraordinary form. Sung mass, with Latin, 10.30 on Sunday
Right. The priest offers the Holy Sacrifice to God for us. Nobis quoque peccatoribus (For us sinners, also) Bells are rung so we know where we are in the Order of the Mass
