May 1, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI linked the dominance of “homosexual marriage” and “abortion” in the world — such that it brooks no dissent without fear of punishment — to the “spiritual power of the Anti-Christ” in a new biography.

“One hundred years ago,” Benedict stated in the biography by Peter Seewald, “everybody would have considered it to be absurd to speak of a homosexual marriage. Today, one is being excommunicated by society if one opposes it.” The same applies to “abortion and to the creation of human beings in the laboratory,” Benedict added.

“Modern society is in the middle of formulating an anti-Christian creed, and if one opposes it, one is being punished by society with excommunication,” he went on to say. “The fear of this spiritual power of the Anti-Christ is then only more than natural, and it really needs the help of prayers on the part of an entire diocese and of the Universal Church in order to resist it.”

The over 1,000-page authoritative biography, titled Benedikt XVI: Ein Leben (in German) and Benedict XVI The Biography: Volume One (in English) is scheduled for release in German May 4 and in English Nov. 17. A pre-release copy of the book was obtained by LifeSiteNews. Seewald has co-authored several books with Benedict and has also already published an autobiographical interview-book with the former Pope.

Following the death of John Paul II in 2005, Benedict, formerly known as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, served as pope of the Catholic Church until his surprise resignation in February 2013. Pope Francis was elected his successor in March 2013.

For this book, Seewald was able to have many exchanges with Pope Benedict as well as with his personal secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein. In an attachment to this new book, Seewald published answers by Pope Benedict under the title: “Last Questions to Benedict XVI.” These questions, the author explained, had been sent to Benedict after “many interviews” with him, in the autumn of 2018. Many of Seewald's questions remained unanswered, but the ones Benedict answered are found in this attachment.

When asked about the often-repeated claim that he as Pope encountered “many blockages” during his papacy on the part of the Roman Curia, Pope Benedict answered: “Blockages came more from the outside than from the Curia. I did not want merely to promote first and foremost the purification in the small world of the Curia, but in the Church as a whole.” Further explaining his thoughts, he added that “in the meantime, events have shown that the crisis of the Faith has led also especially to a crisis of Christian existence.” This, he continued, is what the “Pope has to have in front of his eyes.”

When further asked by Seewald as to whether Benedict had foreseen all that would come down upon him — the Pope, at the beginning of his pontificate, had asked Catholics to pray for him that he may not “flee from the wolves” — Benedict stated that the generally perceived scale of problems that a pope can be “afraid of” is much too “small.”

“Of course,” he went on to say, “events such as 'VatiLeaks' are a nuisance and not understandable for the people in the world at large and deeply disturbing. But the real threat to the Church and with it to the Petrine Office does not come from such things, but from the world-wide dictatorship of seemingly humanistic ideologies.” To contradict this dictatorship, Benedict explained, “means the exclusion from the basic consensus in society.”

 

It was within this context that Benedict mentioned “Anti-Christ.”

The Catholic Church teaches that before Christ's glorious second coming, the Church will pass through a “final trial” that will “shake the faith of many believers.”

“The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the ‘mystery of iniquity’ in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth,” states the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

“The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh,” it added.

Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in a 1947 radio sermon described the Anti-Christ as a “Great Humanitarian” who will “talk peace, prosperity and plenty.”

“The anti-Christ will not be so called, otherwise he would have no followers. He will wear no red tights, nor vomit sulphur, nor carry a spear nor wave an arrowed tail as Mephistopheles in Faust,” stated Sheen.

“Our Lord tells us that He will be so much like Himself, that he would deceive even the elect – and certainly no devil we have ever seen in picture books could deceive even the elect. How will he come in this new age to win followers to his religion?”

Continued Sheen:

He will come disguised as the Great Humanitarian; he will talk peace, prosperity, and plenty, not as means to lead us to God, but as ends in themselves. He will write books on the new idea of God to suit the way people live.

[He will] induce faith in astrology so as to make not the will but the stars responsible for our sins. He will explain guilt away psychologically as repressed sex, make men shrink in shame if their fellowmen say they are not broadminded and liberal.

He will identify tolerance with indifference to right and wrong. He will foster more divorces under the disguise that another partner is “vital.”

He will increase love for love and decrease love for persons. He will invoke religion to destroy religion.

He will even speak of Christ and say that he was the greatest man who ever lived. His mission, he will say, will be to liberate men from the servitudes of superstition and Fascism, which he will never define.

In the midst of all his seeming love for humanity and his glib talk of freedom and equality, he will have one great secret which he will tell to no one; he will not believe in God. And because his religion will be brotherhood without the fatherhood of God, he will deceive even the elect.

He will set up a counter-Church, which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will be the mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the Church as the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, he will induce modern man, in his loneliness and frustration, to hunger more and more for membership in his community that will give man enlargement of purpose, without any need of personal amendment and without the admission of personal guilt. These are days in which the devil has been given a particularly long rope.

Benedict’s comments may be his strongest condemnation of the dictatorship of moral relativism and of the LGBT agenda that has been repeatedly resisted by other high-ranking Catholic leaders, such as Cardinal Robert Sarah, Cardinal Gerhard Müller, Cardinal Raymond Burke, and Cardinal Walter Brandmüller, as well as Bishop Athanasius Schneider, among others.

It was in an April 2005 speech, just before his election to the papacy, that then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had introduced the term “dictatorship of relativism.”

He told his fellow cardinals that “today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be 'tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine', seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.” Against this relativism, he noted, stands Jesus Christ.

Stated Ratzinger: “We, however, have a different goal: the Son of God, the true man. He is the measure of true humanism.”

In 2017, on the occasion of the funeral of Cardinal Joachim Meisner, Benedict praised the “dubia” cardinal for living out a “deep conviction that the Lord does not abandon His Church, even when the boat has taken on so much water as to be on the verge of capsizing.”

The Church, Benedict stated at that time, “stands in particularly pressing need of convincing shepherds who can resist the dictatorship of the spirit of the age and who live and think the faith with determination.”

Many of us have been excommunicated from society and even our own families for many years now. Lets hope that as more of us are rejected that we can join together in unity in Christ in the Church and not be divided from one another over squabbles because that is what I see happening and being fermented by the spirit of these times. This is far too important a time for that. We must remain bold yet humble and forgive one another.

This is our mission (that of the Church militant today) I believe!

Mary walked the way of the cross without the supernatural nourishment of the Blessed Sacrament and now we are called (it seems), to follow Jesus without His most precious life sustaining gift!

To me this is the most horrendous thing.............. that I as a Catholic, have ever been asked to endure!

I have suffered in the past and try to offer my sufferings to Jesus but the deprivation of the sacraments is such a greater suffering than I could have never imagined.

My Questions.....Is this my plight? and that of my fellow Catholics of this era? and what does this mean?

I believe it may mean that I must put aside my notions of the Christendom that I was born into, and embrace the cross of Jesus, in all its abject humiliation and its poverty.

I believe today we as Catholics are called to this!
We are called in these last times, to endure something inconceiveable!

However, Saint Paul tells us in his first letter to the Corinthians

18 The message of the cross is folly for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are on the road to salvation it is the power of God.

19 As scripture says: I am going to destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the understanding of any who understand.

20 Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do you not see how God has shown up human wisdom as folly?

21 Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's own pleasure to save believers through the folly of the gospel.
22 While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,

Great post. It's a paradox but mention of the Cross always cheers me up and is a great source of hope ... it makes me smile because it gives meaning and purpose. It reminds me of the words of St Paul:

I was wondering this morning if this may have been a coded warning from Pope Benedict? About what is going on in the Church? A call to pay attention to things that are really matter, like prolife and the struggle against sexual perversion?

These are exactly the issues the Vatican are telling us to , 'Tone down ', on?

 

I honestly don't understand how there can be ANY question, in our Church, of abortion especially being wrong and evil.

God didn't create life in a womb to then be "okay" with that life being deliberately destroyed by human action.

 

Powerful Josephite. I believe you speak truth. Our Lady foretold at Akita that the only things remaining for us would be the Rosary and "the Sign of my Son" and to me that means the cross. The sign of contradiction.

 

There is it seems an almost frantic push to force this on the Church. The last indignity. The last insult to Almighty God. The last and final destruction. But they do not know it seems "the deep magic" that CS Lewis speaks of--their destruction so called will bring about a glorious resurrection of the Church the pure Bride.

I found Akita far more credible than Fatima as this was a huge suppression by rcc all the way up to the Vatican.

Akita doesn't have many divisions except for higher ups in the Vatican. Its a very low profile as many people don't hear that much from Anita at all whatsoever. It's v v low profile.

Also the main message coming from Akita was a huge condemnation on many priests and bishops that the Vatican didn't like it not even one bit.

Everything is relevant in Akita messages. It just points to the state of the church right now.

For instance, seminaries full of gay aspiring priests but in less numbers than a seminaries full with heterosexuals.

The objectives of seminaries led by usually a rector or monsignor was to weed out many heterosexual candidates as possible from 1st year. Heterosexual seminarians are discouraged by many active means such no rosaries, nightcap stuffed with alcohol offered by a head priest usually a monsignor. Its becoming a church with at least 60-70% homosexuality.

I recalled one incident where a seminarian was kissing priest hand far too much in Latin mass which put me off big time. He was eventually suspended afterwards probably on the basis of complaints coming from people who were there in that mass.


That's the main message coming from Akita re sodomy in the church and leading the blind toward the blind.

 

Fr Laurentin, (who was the foremost Marianologist in the Church) said just before he died that if Our Lady appeared in Lourdes today she would never have been accepted and St Bernadette would have been ridiculed by the Church authorities.

This is quite true. The vert first thing the Powers that be want to do when they hear of a Marian or supernatural phenomenom is to bury it and anyone associated it.

Why is this?

Former pope Benedict complains of attempts to 'silence' him



Berlin (AFP) - Traditionalist former pope Benedict XVI accuses opponents of wanting to "silence" him while associating gay marriage with "the Antichrist" and attacking "humanist ideologies" in a new authorised biography published Monday in Germany.

The 93-year-old, whose original name is Joseph Ratzinger, claims in "Benedict XVI - A Life" that he has fallen victim to a "malignant distortion of reality" in reactions to his interventions in theological debates.

"The spectacle of reactions coming from German theology is so misguided and ill-willed that I would prefer not to speak of it," he says.

The former pope -- who dramatically resigned in 2013 -- was especially criticised for a 2018 text that was seen as critical of the Jewish faith.

"I would rather not analyse the actual reasons why people want to silence my voice," Benedict says.

The German branch of the Catholic Church has for years been led by clergy more disposed to reform than the stringent traditionalism associated with Ratzinger.

In office from 2005-13, Benedict has frequently been criticised for his attitudes to Islam or to social questions, and is accused of attempting to undermine the modernisation drive of his successor Pope Francis.

Ratzinger attempts to counter such claims in the biography, saying his "personal friendship with Pope Francis has not only endured, but grown".

In February, Benedict was drawn into a Vatican intrigue when his private secretary was removed from Francis' entourage.

Some observers had accused the former pope of back-seat driving when a book defending the hot topic of priestly celibacy appeared, bearing his name alongside that of arch-conservative Guinean cardinal Robert Sarah.

After 48 hours of controversy, Benedict asked that his name be removed from the book's cover, introduction and jointly signed conclusion.

But he has not given up intervening in social debates, offering a fresh blast against gay marriage in the new biography.

"A century ago, anyone would have thought it absurd to talk about homosexual marriage. Today those who oppose it are excommunicated from society," Benedict says.

"It's the same thing with abortion and creating human life in the laboratory," he says, adding that it's "only natural" for people to "fear the spiritual power of the Antichrist" -- an evil force seeking to supplant Jesus Christ.

"The real threat to the Church... is in the global dictatorship of purportedly humanist ideologies," he warns.

 

Once again a divisive post. It divides the Church into two, 'football teams' . The Pope Francis 'football team 'and the Pope Benedict, 'football team' and proclaims loudly that the writer is on the Pope Francis, 'football team'. He is wearing the team jersey, no matter what.

This is both divisive, confrontational and unhelpful. It's a , 'I'm looking for a fight', type post.

The original Greek word , 'Diabolic', means , 'To divide' or to, 'Rend' , or to, 'tear about'.

This reminds me of the Irish saying, 'You would start a row in an empty house.' The truth is lost before we even start when we have a mindset of, 'I 'm on his side, no matter what,' mentality. Theology and the truth in the Church is not about supporting football teams or political parties.

Partisanship in the Church leads to the death of truth and the start of wars. It is diabolical, divisive, in the true sense of the word.

The Church is not a Political Party or Football Team.

 

Notice how the media is continually dividing Catholics into two camps of either conservative or liberal? The idea is to continually divide us into increasingly fractured and separate opposing camps. Any article published always paints P.E. Ratzinger as some sort of life long arch conservative figure in the church when he is anything but. Then they deliberately pit him against some action or words of that of Pope Francis or vice versa.

Fake news my friends.

 

To quote you, ,t, 'pope-emeritus Benedict raises big accusations', he is 'Divisive', he is, 'Reactionary'. Pope Francis and the German Bishops on the other hand are putting forward Progressive Modernisation plans which the wicked reactionary Pope Benedict is opposing.

If that's not putting on a football shirt and supporting your own football team I don't know what is. Its basically making affairs in the Church a political partisan sport.

Nor do you support one Pope by attacking another.

Connecting homosexuality, abortion and humanism together with the Antichrist, is in fact, a fundamental reality!

*Abortion is an abomination to God it is a sin that cry's out to God for vengeance. Mother Theresa stated 40 years ago, that the greatest destroyer of peace in the world today, is "abortion!"
Why did she say that? The answer is..... because the murder of the most innocent and helpless human beings who are created by God in His image and likeness gives spiritual power to all that is unholy!

*Homosexual depravity is a grievous abhorrent sin, another sin that cry's out to God for vengeance however, "homosexual marriage" is in a class of its own I believe, because it is an outrageous insult to a Holy Sacrament of God; "homosexual marriage" could be compared to slapping God in the face.

When he was a cardinal, Pope Benedict said Freemasonry is the greatest danger to the Church
The conversation happened 'a few years before he became pope.'



May 4, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Dr. Robert Moynihan, the editor-in-chief of the Catholic journal Inside the Vatican, revealed on April 23 that he once had a conversation with then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (who later became Pope Benedict XVI) about the “greatest danger to the Church,” and he recounts that Ratzinger said: “It is Freemasonry.” These words have a special importance in light of Pope Benedict's recent words about the “world-wide dictatorship of seemingly humanistic ideologies” that are fostering a “fear of the spiritual power of the Anti-Christ.”

Let us first consider here Moynihan's own full report on that memorable conversation.

“I recall a conversation that I had with then Cardinal Ratzinger a few years before he became pope,” Moynihan writes on his website. “We were in his apartment, not far from St. Anne’s Gate. We were discussing his conflict with Cardinal Walter Kasper over the question of Universal Church and Particular Church which was much in the media at that time. I asked the Cardinal where the greatest danger to the authentic Catholic faith lies. ‘Is it in our own selves, our own sins and weaknesses. Is this what is the greatest danger to the Church or is it something else, some external enemy?’”

Moynihan continues: “He looked at me directly in the eyes and then after a moment’s pause, as if he were reflecting, he said: ‘It is Freemasonry.’”

“I never forgot that conversation as it was [a] fixed point that brought to a conclusion a long series of questions that had concerned me up until that meeting and have concerned me since.”

This report comes to us because Dr. Moynihan received a letter from one of his readers concerned about the fact that in recent times, Freemasons are making attempts to undermine the Catholic Church’s ban on Freemasonry.

This revelation on the part of Dr. Moynihan is especially important in light of the fact that Pope Benedict XVI, in recent comments to his biographer Peter Seewald, spoke of the “spiritual power of the Anti-Christ” of which many are afraid, especially when opposing the modern agenda of abortion, homosexuality, and in-vitro fertilization. He spoke of a “world-wide dictatorship of seemingly humanistic ideologies.”

“Today, one is being excommunicated by society if one opposes it [this ‘dictatorship’],” Benedict told Seewald for his new book Benedict XVI: a Life (published first in German by Droemer Verlag).

“Modern society is in the middle of formulating an anti-Christian creed, and if one opposes it, one is being punished by society with excommunication,” he went on to say. “The fear of this spiritual power of the Anti-Christ is then only more than natural, and it really needs the help of prayers on the part of an entire diocese and of the Universal Church in order to resist it.”

In order to understand where certain elements of this “world-wide dictatorship” come from, we can turn to Bishop Athanasius Schneider, who gave, in 2017, a talk on the 300-year-old history of Freemasonry. He delivered this talk for the Kirche in Not organization, a Pontifical Foundation. Bishop Schneider has kindly provided LifeSiteNews with an English manuscript of this talk.

In this talk, Bishop Schneider described the characteristics of Freemasonry based on multiple scholarly sources. After describing them in detail, he concluded: “In fact, Freemasonry is the perfect Anti-Church, where all the theological and moral foundations of the Catholic Church are turned into their opposite! A Freemason told his sister in a private talk the following: ‘Do you know what we Freemasons are in fact? We are the anti-Church.’”

According to Bishop Schneider, Freemasonry also promoted “the so-called ‘sexual revolution’ of 1968.” He explains: “The two Grandmasters of the two largest Freemasonic organizations in France, Frédéric Zeller and Pierre Simon, were with some of their members actively engaged in the Paris student revolts in May 1968. The said Grandmaster Pierre Simon became then assessor of the minister Simone Weil, who legalized in France abortion.”

Further expounding on this topic, Bishop Schneider states that Freemasons were crucial in the promotion of abortion, same-sex “marriage,” and euthanasia in France.

Here, Schneider points out that “in 2012, the Parish Newspaper Le Figaro published a comprehensive dossier about Freemasonry and Le Figaro let top Freemasonic members speak in its newspaper forum. One of these Freemasonic officials openly stated that the laws about legalization of abortion, the so-called ‘same sex marriage’ or ‘marriage for all’ and of the euthanasia were prepared in the idealistic Freemasonic ‘laboratories’ and that they were then, with the help of lobbying and of their members in parliament and in the government, pushed through the legislation.”

Bishop Schneider also gives the exact reference to this issue of the French newspaper, saying that “this can be read in the newspaper Le Figaro of the year 2012 (supplément LE FIGARO, 20-21 Juillet 2012).”

Then-Cardinal Ratzinger was already in the 1980s so concerned about the nature and work of Freemasonry that he worked out a statement for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, whose Prefect he then was, which repeated the Church's long-standing ban on Freemasonry. That is to say, he re-stated that Catholics may not be members of Freemasonry. On November 26, 1983, Ratzinger signed a document that stated, “Therefore the Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic association remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful who enroll in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.”

This document came into being because the new Code of Canon Law that was promulgated that year under Pope John Paul II surprisingly lacked an explicit ban on Freemasonry. It does not mention Freemasonry by name when it states: “A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or takes office in such an association is to be punished with an interdict.”

Dr. Ingo Dollinger played an important role in restoring clearly the 1983 ban on Freemasonry. He was a German priest from Augsburg who had led the discussions between the German Bishops' Conference and Freemasonic lodges between 1974 and 1980, at the end of which stood the statement of the German bishops that membership in a Freemasonic lodge is “incompatible” with the Catholic faith (see this report for a more detailed description of Father Dollinger). According to his private secretary, Dollinger, after seeing the ambiguity of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, then approached Cardinal Ratzinger, who set up a commission in order to issue the above-mentioned clarification, with the approval of Pope John Paul II.
