The key statistic that causes me to be cautious rather than panicky is the percentage of serious cases vs. active cases. For instance, on July 8th there were 4, 586,096 active cases of which 58,2oo were listed as serious. This translates into 1.o3 % as serious. Even if one-half of the serious cases resulted in death, we end up concluding that 1 out of 200 who contract covid-19 die. This is sad, but not worthy of panic.
