I read the most beautiful story about a New York policeman many, many years ago in the Readers Digest. He was just an ordinary beat cop (in the days when they still walked about on foot) and always remained so dying one day on Patrol of a heart attack. If was after he died the surprise and unusual started. A huge crowd turned out for his funeral. Then the Precinct were he had worked was besieged by thousands and thousands of messages of condolences, heart felt condolences from all over the city. Bemused by this Detectives went out to find out why and began to question people about this humble unknown, unremarkable cop. The message came back clearly, he was everyone's dear friend. He had time and made time for everyone he met. He was warm , kind and loving . In a huge, cold city he was a warm fire of home..and the people of New York responded when the fire of his life and the warmth of his love, went out.
I’ll just add that while I’m sitting in mass and the homily begins, I listen. I did listen to it all, every word. The only words I remembered, and that which gave me peace long after that mass until now, are these few words, “This world is passing….worry not”. It’s true…life is passing….so be it. Just be ready.
I found the book I had mentioned: Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government's Secret Plan to Save Itself--While the Rest of Us Die It covers all the different plans developed over the years since WW2 for rebuilding the government of the United States after a devastating attack. For example: how will you handle mail delivery when the recipient's address may have been destroyed by a nuclear missile?
When I think of questions like this I consider that somethings God has kept hidden, even from the angels. I believe some of the visionaries know, such as those of Medugorje, they know precise dates, they are even written down on paper. But God kept these things very, very hidden indeed. I believe this is because knowing them would distract us from the course of conversion we should be taking. Sometimes I pray to God regarding knowledge of the future and the answer I get back is, '..and do you think that would be a good thing, for you to know'. Some knowledge can be very painful.
I agree. If God told us that the world would end on January 2050, people wouldn't change their way of living nor repent before December 2049... We have to live good lives and be ready at any moment, just as Christ taught us.

There are numerous such shelters around the country. I know of one in my area. As a child, it was at my school. Now I have no idea how to access it. I wonder if one entrance was sealed off in remodeling efforts.

Yes Padraig, I agree that it’s kept secret to allow for events that will occur and the opportunity and need for conversion when they do. I’m feeling like war can not be averted for “ communism to be at its worse”before heaven intervenes.
I see there is a book , called , 'I will dry your tears', by Father Falvio Ubodi but I have been looking for it but can't find it. Perhaps it has never been translated. I must admit most of what I know comes from Countdown to the Kingdom who are not that reliable. But I think Dr Taylor Marshall did a piece on it and he is very good. I am glad I don't know dates, Beth. I admit I am unsettled enough at the minute with all that is happening in the World but especially in Our Mother the Church. Sometimes I get the weirdest feeling I am imagining all that is going on and all this is not really happening. Was there really a World Wide Pandemic? Were all the Churches in the World really closed? Are we really afflicted by the most awful Pope? Has Russia really invaded Ukraine? Are we really seeing the weirdest world wide weather and seismic events? Is there really widespread Apostasy and heresy in the Church? It reminds me of an old Sci Fi series we used to watch on TV, called 'The Outer Limits'. I do hope though it is bringing at least some of our dear Catholic sisters and brothers to serious reflection. I am trying to find time for serious prayer. It's certainly time for serious prayer time and Confession and daily Mass.
Yes, remember the orange and black signs on buildings that designated a fall out shelter? A lot of them were school basements. I never see them anymore. Perhaps we need to resurrect them…
