As soon as restrictions were lifted here in MA, Omicron began to spread like crazy. We are also dealing with a type A flu epidemic that is particularly bad in the schools right now. Prayers for all who are still fighting these virus battles. I was also wondering if the Chinese bishops will participate in the Consecration.
Rosalia, Yes, I checked the website right after I posted and noticed that they explain where these things will be aired or livestreamed. It's wonderful! Thank you again for letting us know, I may have missed it otherwise. *** I'm praying for those with Covid. I believe that I had it in early January and thankfully I got over the severe symptoms which consisted of a bad sinus infection very quickly but it's feels as though I have lingering symptoms of heavy congestion at times like early in the morning.
Genesis 25:29-34 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.)31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.”32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. TECHNICALLY, Jacob did not steal the birthright from Esau. However, his mother and he did trick Isaac into thinking he was Essau
That's true. I had forgotten. Thank you for clarifying. Do you think that Isaac was unaware of that exchange between Jacob and Esau? Also, do you think it is possible to sell a blessing not yet received? I don't know the answer. For example, despite all the stories about people selling their souls, it's impossible for us to sell our souls because they belong to God. Esau didn't own either the custom or the blessing. He could pledge (not sell) the material possessions he would inherit from Isaac, but could he sell the blessing? I would like to read more about this. Can you recommend anything?
We need to keep in mind that even if we acknowledge Esau exchanged his firstborn rights for a pot of stew, the key event was Isaac imparting the paternal blessing for the firstborn on Jacob! So the clincher came from a deceived Isaac (mentioned above), not Esau. If there is anything the Bible frowns on in Genesis, it is the sin of parents (Rebecca here, and later Jacob with Joseph) playing favorites with their children. I must add, however, that Providence does work things out in the end! Such fascinating lessons! Good lessons to learn as young parents! Lord have Mercy!
I have no idea if Isaac was aware of what happened between the two brothers. If I had to guess probably not. While being twins, Esau was the first born. Esau surely was surely aware of the rights and privileges that were given/ handed down to the first born and knew of the blessing that would also be handed down to the first born and yet was willing to sell all of this for a bowl of stew. He was willing to trade something of great value for something earthly. God was aware and did not choose this kind of man. Sure Jacob wasn't perfect, he did participate in deceiving his father, but he was also obedient to his mother who told him what to do. Genesis 27 5-13 " Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back, 6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, 7 ‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’ 8 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you: 9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it. 10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.” 11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “But my brother Esau is a hairy man while I have smooth skin. 12 What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing.” 13 His mother said to him, “My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; go and get them for me.” We also know that Esau was not a total innocent because in Hebrews 12: 14-17 they don't paint a very good picture of him. "14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done." I admit my memory is not what it used to be so most times I stay silent because I can't cite things that I vaguely remember, but I love reading, and learning about history and the Bible has both. I wish I had more time to sit in bible study and theological classes, but most of what I know came from my mother (huge source), religious classes, too many books to remember all the names of (most of the books were bought by my mother ), various conferences with priests and other bible scholars over the years (dragged to them all by my mother ) as well as youtube videos (alot sent to me by my mother ). I will say the first thing that really "turned" me onto Bible History was listening to Scott Hahn's "Salvation History" Lectures. I just wish I could remember more of what was taught me
However from what I have learned of Bible History, the first born was always passed over for another child.
Well, the Bible does include a number of stories with exceptions, but that was not normal operating procedures: According to the Law of Moses, the firstborn may be either the firstborn of his father, who is entitled to receive a double portion of his father's inheritance (compared to the other siblings), (Deuteronomy 21:17) or the firstborn of his mother. Deuteronomy 21:15–17 provides inheritance rules preventing the husband with more than one wife from leaving property to the son of the favoured wife.
Let us hope that the consecration of Russia will take place peacefully and that we will be saved from a nuclear war. We must never forget that this consecration should have been validly carried out by Pius IX or by his predecessor in order to prevent the Second World War and its consequences (Russia), which did not happen. The consecrations that have taken place so far have called a part of the promised graces and consequently it cannot necessarily be everything and also not immediately. But we may hope and have every reason to do so. He who asks for much will also receive much. We hand over insufficiencies to the mercy of God. Anything else would be fatal. We must be careful not to fall into quietism, sybilinism and sophistry. Scrupulants are not pleasing to God either. All this is not pleasing to God, just as hypocrisy and much more. A mystic told one that she complained to Jesus about a modernist priest during a vision. Then Jesus rebuked her, pointing out that he also died for her on the cross and that she would not have been saved without his sacrifice, and therefore she had no right to criticize that priest. Rather, she should pray and sacrifice for him, because he also wants to save the soul of that priest. In private, she could encourage him to do better, always accompanied by prayer. He, Jesus, will accompany her. In the case of criticism, even prayer remains unsuccessful because of one's own sins (see Bible with one's own beam in the eye). Pope Francis always humbly asks for our prayers. If these were carried by love and if the excess of criticism and hatred were not so infinitely great, successes would have been visible long ago. But now the failure of the world falls back on us and we have to confess that we pray too little and criticize too much. We are all blamed for this. It is not the pope's fault if the world does not get better, but we ourselves, each and every one, even those who already believe themselves "saved and justified".
Dear Rosalia, Thank you for your above letter. I used it today as a template, and emailed my bishop, here in Australia. I changed only a few things as I am writing so late. Amazingly the Bishop has already got back to me! thanking me and stating he will be making the consecration in union with Pope Francis and Emeritus Pope Benedict. He also stated that he has invited all the priests of the diocese to join with him. This is wonderful, because last Sunday I spoke with our Parish priest about the consecration of this coming Friday, and he seemed unaware. I told him I would be emailing the Bishop and Father seemed to be somewhat concerned that I would do that, giving me advice to only email the admin. I emailed the Chancery office as I know these emails would also be filtered. I think my beautiful parish priest is very concerned and possibly suffering with PTSD due to the stress of the last 2 years of covid madness, which even today continues (to a lesser degree) but is still pushed by msm. Thank you Rosalia.
Bishop Alphonsus Cullinane of Waterford and Lismore diocese is joining in the consecration from Waterford Cathedral, 4pm on Friday. I aim to be there.
Yes! This is needed! God Bless Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI! Dear Lord, give Him a long long life. Amen. In My Most Humble Opinion, (which I accept is only my personal conjecture), is that Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI is the restrainer spoken about in 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2. Whether this is the reality or not, Let us all continue to pray for him. 2 Thessalonians - Chapter 2 1 About the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, brothers, and our being gathered to him: 2 please do not be too easily thrown into confusion or alarmed by any manifestation of the Spirit or any statement or any letter claiming to come from us, suggesting that the Day of the Lord has already arrived. 3 Never let anyone deceive you in any way. It cannot happen until the Great Revolt has taken place and there has appeared the wicked One, the lost One, 4 the Enemy, who raises himself above every so-called God or object of worship to enthrone himself in God's sanctuary and flaunts the claim that he is God. 5 Surely you remember my telling you about this when I was with you? 6 And you know, too, what is still holding him back from appearing before his appointed time. 7 The mystery of wickedness is already at work, but let him who is restraining it once be removed, 8 and the wicked One will appear openly. The Lord will destroy him with the breath of his mouth and will annihilate him with his glorious appearance at his coming. 9 But the coming of the wicked One will be marked by Satan being at work in all kinds of counterfeit miracles and signs and wonders, 10 and every wicked deception aimed at those who are on the way to destruction because they would not accept the love of the truth and so be saved. 11 And therefore God sends on them a power that deludes people so that they believe what is false, 12 and so that those who do not believe the truth and take their pleasure in wickedness may all be condemned. 13 But we must always thank God for you, brothers whom the Lord loves, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved by the Spirit who makes us holy and by faith in the truth. 14 Through our gospel he called you to this so that you should claim as your own the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Stand firm, then, brothers, and keep the traditions that we taught you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who has given us his love and, through his grace, such ceaseless encouragement and such sure hope, 17 encourage you and strengthen you in every good word and deed.
I have heard this too Brian But let us hold fast! If you and me and hundreds of thousands of true faithful Catholics are willing to see Gods hand in this!, to realise God can draw a greater good out of every evil!, and place our trust in His infinite Mercy! we will have overcome all evil intention and opposition! because the majority is.... one plus God! In fact as you and me know; the majority, is God alone! He does not need a plus one! Praise be God! Praise be His Might! Let us sing With Our Lady... Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array? My soul doth magnify the Lord; and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour, For he hath regarded: the humility of his handmaid. For behold from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done great things for me and Holy is His Name. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble. He has shown the might of His arm and scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart He has filled the hungry with good things and the rich He has sent empty away And His Mercy is from generation unto generation to them that fear him He has received Israel His servant being mindful of His mercy as He spoke to our Father Abraham and to his seed forever Glory be to the Father, and to the Son; and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; world without end, Amen. Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array? Pray for us Oh Holy Mother of God that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ/ Let us Pray O Lord Jesus Christ, our mediator with the Father, Who has been pleased to appoint the Most Blessed Virgin, Your mother, to be our mother also, and our mediatrix with You, mercifully grant that whoever comes to You seeking Your favours may rejoice to receive all of them through her. Amen.
There was nothing in our newsletter on Sunday but I am delighted to see a notice now in facebook that 'this Friday, in accordance with the request made by Pope Francis the Bishop will consecrate Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. There will be a Holy Hour of Adoration which will include the singing of vespers, recitation of the Holy Rosary, prayer of consecration, and conclude with benediction. Please join us as we gather together as a community to continue praying for peace in Ukraine.'
