Christ seems to point out that people who knew well his ministry, his miracles and his holy word will be judged more severely at the final judgment, not that this means that other groups will be saved by rejecting christ, as for the new Jerusalem at least I I think it represents the church triumphant on earth. As to the meaning of the new Jerusalem I think it is the triumph of the church, new Pentecost.

I did not say that there will be no new heavens and new earth after all the whole earth will be destroyed in the final judgment but that new Jerusalem represents the church; the coming down from heaven in the figure of speech as a renewal of the Church does not mean that Christ himself will not return from heaven in the same way that he ascended 40 days after the resurrection.

A third temple attempt where the mosque is today would bring violence against, not only the state of Israel, but everywhere else in the world. They would blow up Jerusalem before any such building would begin construction. I still believe it will never happen.
