Every morning I wake up at 2:21 am. It’s so strange. I do pray, but I cannot go back to sleep. Thanks
I can sympathize. I find that playing the Rosary on my phone or finding you tubes of David Suchet reading the scriptures--book by book in the Bible. I like to play the psalms or the gospel of John. I usually fall back asleep. But not always. I will pray for you tonight.
Many Catholics wake up at this time, myself included, though usually around 3am. It is great to meditate on the Passion. Try this.
Praying of course. But some natural remedies may also help. Drink 3-4 cups of camomile tea during the day and before sleep melatonin. All easily available at Amazon and 100% natural. I would not recommend sleeping pills as they have dangerous side effects and can be addictive. God bless!
I find it is a great time to be aware of what I am thinking of and why. To bring my thoughts under control. I pay attention to myself. Am I thinking about God and the things of God? Am I actively praying? What was I dreaming about? The day time is so busy, paying attention then is so hard. But the night time is perfect for this. Then using Meditation to turn to the Lord as closely as I can.
The Church has always from the very beginning taught the importance of night time Vigil prayers. The Fathers of the Desert, the first Monks (the word, 'Monk' from the Greek means, 'Alone') taught this of being able to be vigilant, to do vigils to pray in the middle of the Night. This 3am hour is also the hour of Satan , the hour of greatest evil in the World. It is the hour of the Christian Soldier when he goes forth to do battle against the forces of Darkness. It is the hour to join Jesus in Gethsemane at his time of greatest need in the Garden of Olives.. The Apostles may have fallen asleep. We however do not. We good Catholics are awake in prayer. We watch, we wait, we pray.
Yes this is my experience too. I am often wakened at 2:30 aNd I see it as a time of vigil so I enter into prayer--the Rosary and/or The DM chaplet. I pray to St Michael and I try to marinate in the scriptures by finding on you tube books of the Bible. British actor David Suchet (Hercule Poirot) who is a revert and very devout has recorded all of the NT and much of the OT. I find myself drawn to the Gospel of John and the psalms. He reads so reverently and beautifully it is easy to pray along. By then its 4 AM and I am soon asleep again. Not always but usually. But fortunately I am not working so I feel no pressure about being sleep deprived because there is always time to catch up. I prayed last night for Juanita and will continue. Its no fun to suffer from insomnia.
If is making your life very difficult it is a Great Cross. However when lifted with love , Great Crosses can themselves lift us and the entire World up with us. If it is not a Direct Cross but a Direct grace from God in that He is sending you your Guardian Angel to awaken you, as He does so many, it will still you raise you as it Raised Jesus. Either way if you embrace this with love you come out a winner. If you do Carry it with love it means you will not fret or worry about it and this inner peace will aid sleep. So again either way, once again you will come out a winner. Love always makes us winners. Pray and ask your Guardian angel about all this, I am sure he will help. He might even be behind it all. Go and see.
