These things aren't happening despite Pope Francis...

..they are happening because of Pope Francis.

God help that poor little girl. With a bit of luck, these narcissists will get fed up with her, which would be a better outcome for her.

Mr Varadkar ought to listen to (what I am paraphrasing as) John Waters' advice: "The first step in believing in God is realising you're not Him".

On a lighter note, I went to Mass last Sunday in a neighbouring parish. The priest, the youngest in the diocese, I think, gave a sermon on sin and the necessity for confession. He quoted a line from a recent film, 'Calvary' in which the priest played by Brendan Gleeson said there was too much talk about sin and not enough about virtue. The priest at Mass nailed it, saying that the direct opposite was true and that everyone spoke about forgiveness and sin was ignored. As he said, forgiveness has no meaning unless applied to sins which need to be forgiven. Some priests are still Catholic...although they need to watch their back.

God bless and keep this young priest. Fr Ripperger noted that he has great hope in this very very bad situation because so many young priests are fervent devout and very very Catholic. Where sin abounds there does grace much more abound.
My very progressive modernist SIL who is Catholic and extremely generous and good-hearted but very very newchurch was dismayed that her grandson is very taken with his religion classes (he insisted on staying in Catholic school and his parents complied) and tells my SIL that he loves to think about God.(his look is very clear eyed and pure) I said "maybe he has a vocation " she was horrified. She said that he better not be marching in any causes...I think she means pro traditionL marriage and anti abortion. I said "I will pray for him."

I am shocked…appalled … saddened by what I am reading here is actually happening in Roman Catholic Churches. :eek:o_O:confused::cry: My temperament would not allow me to sit quietly and allow the desecration of the sacraments.

I also think that if I had heard the homily you are referring to I might be hard put not to stand up and start applauding :) then I would have to go up after the mass and let the priest know how much I appreciated what he said and assure him of my continued prayers.

In fact do me a favor and tell that priest that there is someone here in the US that will include him in my daily prayers!! More more!!Dear Lord please more faithful shepherds for your sheep for we are adrift and seeking comfort!

Will you be going yourself? Hopefully there will be a good turnout and a renewed devotion to St Brigid to lead people back to the truth and The One True Church. Pray for the conversion of pagans across Ireland

I know next to thing about ireland besides what I learnt in ESL teacher college but::confused:
I read some books and the early irish saints were said to surprass the desert fathers in asceticism and prayer. It isnt a competition but the fact the authors voiced that thought means it was a specially pious folk.

I was listening to wonderful Frances Hogan in the wee hours
She referenced people asking her if Ireland is lost. She said Ireland is no longer a Catholic country but Ireland is filled with strong devout stalwart faithful Catholics and God has assured her that Ireland will be restored. I will try to find the exact video.

Any one ever read what hillare belloc said about the irish. That we we not forced or compelled to accept Christianity we had our our societies and laws and when we heard the truth in christ we accepted it because in our hearts we knew.I don't know where he stands with the church but his writing on ireland is beautiful. Now sadly it's totally turned around. But we must remain hopefully.
