Please listen towards the middle to the end. Dr Martin a theologian at Steubenville is also as confused as most of us. He is frightened.
I am considering the hypothesis that papal inerrancy (in matters of faith) applies to any papal document that demands total obedience under penalty of excommunication for the disobedient. This at least did not occur in the current pontificate and was never mixed with error in previous ones.
A person who was lawfully-elected Pope but subsequently became an "unbeliever" would be either an apostate or a heretic. A manifest (public) apostate or heretic incurs automatic excommunication. Such a person would not even be a member of the Church. A person who is not even a member of the Church cannot be its head. This is the position of St. Robert Bellarmine, Doctor of the Church. You can read Bellarmine's opinion here (https://novusordowatch.org/de-romano-pontifice-book2-chapter30/): Now the fifth true opinion, is that a Pope who is a manifest heretic, ceases in himself to be Pope and head, just as he ceases in himself to be a Christian and member of the body of the Church: whereby, he can be judged and punished by the Church. This is the opinion of all the ancient Fathers, who teach that manifest heretics soon [mox — better translation: immediately] lose all jurisdiction...
With all due respect, Auxillary Bishop Schneider's opinion directly contradicts St. Robert Bellarmine's opinion. Auxillary Bishop Schneider is neither a canonized Saint nor a Doctor of the Church, as is St. Robert Bellarmine. And note that Bellarmine claims that his position is "the opinion of all the ancient Fathers." Any opinion held by all the Church Fathers is considered infallible. We should consider the source.
The problem is laity or even priests cannot just go rogue even if a pope is doing bad things, only a future pope could declare francis an anti pope. Even Leo X was not declared an anti pope, he was simply a "very bad and unfortunate pope" that led to the reformation. But true catholics did not follow Luther in schism when it would have been very easy to do so given the abuses of the church and Leo x at the time. Point is don't be Luther. Honor the chair of peter, pray for him, and let God take care of the rest.
I have quoted Canon Law, showing that all Catholics have an obligation to defend Catholic doctrine. So, as long as the Catholic is defending Catholic doctrine, he is not "going rogue." He is defending the truth. Further, St. Robert Bellarmine, Doctor of the Church, and considered the expert on matters concerning the Roman Pontiff, has stated infallible Catholic doctrine on the issue of a heretical Pope. St. Robert Bellarmine is not Martin Luther, and to even imply that his opinion is similar to Luther's is blasphemy. Honor the Saints, follow Canon Law and let God take care of the rest.
I can understand Bishop Schneider’s concern. Trust in God. And pray, pray, pray. https://onepeterfive.com/bishop-athanasius-schneider-on-the-validity-of-pope-francis/
Honestly ur sounding much like Luther. He quoted scripture to support all his claims. It's not as clear cut as you think. I was listening to father Murr the other day pointing to all the cannon laws that specify why we do NOT have any authority to declare him an antipope or declare him excommunicated. This is where cherry picking certain cannon laws especially when ur not a cannon lawyer will get u in trouble. In the same.way Luther cherry picked scriptures to go into.schism.
Okay, since you have now accused me of "sounding much like Luther," please provide the exact quote from me that you are referring to.
It's interesting because for very long time we've known there would eventually be schism in the church before the great trial. I think we all just assumed it would come from those appostasizing on the left. But what we may end up with is an even bigger mess, with great apostasy on one side, and schism from those believing they are remaining faithful. What a mess!!
I agree. Someone on the forum awhile back made that observation. She is now deceased. It was Carol55.
PNF you’ve got Canon law right, but you fail to see the bigger picture. We need to be calm and clever.
