Thanks, Padraig. Sorry, I misunderstood you. Obviously, what is done is done. Hope is irrelevant post facto. We were drawing swords while facing in totally different directions! There were many in the past who might have received a more merciful Judgement, because they might genuinely not have realised they were in danger of a damnation they accepted as a real possibility; but those who think they can do what they wish, proclaiming to themselves, and worse to others for whom they have accepted responsibility, that they, and everyone else, are still sure of salvation, are likely guilty of what Our Lord described as 'the sin against the Holy Ghost', but I'm not sure of that latter point.
Still, isn't it good to thresh out a subject? It can clarify the thing. Personally, I think I'm wiser now than I was before this debate.
The fault at present is the sin of presumption. Of presumption on the mercy of God . That God does and will forgive all sins at all times no matter who and no matter what. He does not. Scripture proves this. The Church proves this. The Fathers of the Church proves this. The Saints prove this. The mystics prove this. For what it is worth I have been shown this and I assure you he'll is far from empty. But the present denizens of the Vatican beg to disagree. They will know different when they get there. And they will . Pope's included I was shown Papa Frankie there and he did not look a happy camper.
Yes but we had good intention. If we have good intention we do not wind up like a dog chasing its own tail. If there is no pride involved. Only good intention. No intent to justify oneself as a result of pride. Proper humility on all parts. Otherwise chasing tails for all eternity. False theologians in the Vatican take note.
By the way there are certain high clerics reading this. They don't comment but there are. They have been reading this site for quite a few years. I know this. Especially from the US of A. Very much so. I hope they are taking all this in and maybe grow a pair..
I read a great book by Ralph Martin, "Who is Saved" I think it was called, some years ago. He most indicted this theologian they're always referring to, Von Balthasar, (and whom the usual Vaticanists claim as a 'conservative' (!)), as a Universalist. One could be the most rigorous, conservative, pharisaical stickler of a theologian, but if one thinks that everyone is saved regardless, one's theology is utterly pointless. If we're all going to Heaven anyway, one would be a complete fool not to do whatever one wants, no matter how immoral. They won't take it in, I fear, because the changes involved would be too drastic...or else they believe in none of this. Same outcome for them.
Everyone is nice. Everything is nice. That apple is nice hanging on the tree, why not eat it? Everything is nice. But hell is the bottom line.
One of the priests who said Mass was an Englishman and an actual saint. Everyone knew he was a saint and as soon as you talked to him you could tell. He eventually set up a boarding school for boys in the West of Ireland. He is a long time dead now but lots of people visit his grace still. I don't mean he was like a saint , he was an actual saint. His name was Father Alan Wilders. https://fsspx.ie/en/history-sspx-ireland-32340
I have to agree. I've said the same thing myself, do we really know how much God is going to pardon? Especially when there's no remorse & pride... We're living in times where most ppl don't think sin or evil exist, so that is very scary...
Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful link. And a wonderful story. Yes, I am sure Fr. Alan Wilders is a saint. God bless!
One way of knowing you are talking to a saint is this. They give their whole attention to you as though you were the only person in the universe. Also they actually listen to you with their whole being, their entire heart. This is so incredibly rare. Like love in motion. I think he was the very first saint I ever met. Reading the life of Archbishop Lefebvre and accounts of those who met him, I believe he was a saint too. I also met an Irish seminarian who attended the SSPX seminary in Switzerland. He was very young but already very, very, very holy indeed. Remarkable. This is one of the reasons I hold a high opinion of the SSPX>
I was quite delighted until I read the details, because I jumped to the wrong conclusion that it was a Penitential Rite for the recent LGBTQ profanation of St Peter’s, which I thought was even more scandalous. To, rightly, hold a Penitential Rite for the three mentioned scandals and not for the other one compounds the latter.
