I had a look back through the book and it was Br. Guy Consolmagno who was asked the question about Baptising an ET.
He was at a scientific conference in England which happened to be at the same time that Pope Benedict was on his visit to the UK.
There were lots of Journalists around looking for a different angle to report about the Pope, Church etc.
Some were asking if there was any conflict with Pope Benedict and the Vatican Observatory. They seemed disappointed to hear that the Pope was very supportive of their work. Then someone decided a different approach and asked if he would Baptise an extraterrestrial. Without thinking too much he said "Only if she asked." This got a bit of a laugh, as he had intended, but he says the next day it was printed as if it was an official Vatican statement.
The two astronomers discuss the ET question and seem to agree that there is no evidence to support the belief. Though I think they're probably open to the possibility.
This was published some years ago, not sure what they'd make of the current situation.

As usual Fr Charron is measured and careful and knowledgeable. Christ is the Logos through Whom ALL things were created. This covers every being above the earth upon the earth and below the earth. The patterns of these " visitsions" from the ancient times to now remain remarkably the same. Space aliens goblins fairies or pagan gods-'the pattern remains. And their antics are stopped cold at the invocation of Jesus Christ.

I watching some of the videos and accounts issued from the White House. I can't honestly see what the fuss is all about. I thought it was going to be something mind blowing.

I hadn't been following this thread from the beginning. When I went back to the start I saw that it began back in 2021. This post from thomas21 reminded me of St. Bartolo Longo who began to attend Seances and engage in Spiritualism when he started his university studies. Naples had a strong anti Catholic, anti Clerical movement in the late 1800s which he was drawn into (as were many others in various countries) and the Theosophists (who thomas21 mentions in an earlier post) were instrumental in popularising these interests in seances, speaking to spirits 'on the other side' etc, a la Madame Blavatsky, who had co-founded the Society with an American Col. Henry Olcott in the 1870s.

The young Bartolo Longo became more deeply involved in these activities and eventually became involved in Satanic rituals, having been instructed as a 'Priest'. Not long after his mind became increasingly disturbed and he became a physical and mental shadow of his former self.
Other friends who were still Catholic persuaded him to visit a very holy Priest they knew and he helped Bartolo, instructing him to pray the Rosary earnestly. Bartolo had a mystical experience and heard a voice telling him (i'm paraphrasing) that he and many others would be saved by the power of the Rosary.
Bartolo took this to heart and committed himself to promoting the Rosary and devotion to the Blessed Mother, for the rest of his life.
Out of that would come the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary in Pompeii and eventually inspire Pope John Paul II to include the Mysteries of Light in the Rosary and to Beatify Bartolo Longo.
I was very happy to learn a short while back the Blessed Bartolo had been Canonised in October 2025.

Saint Bartolo Longo, pray for us.

1- And after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them [Genesis 6:1] 2 The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took to themselves wives of all which they chose. 3 And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. 4 Now giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men, and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown. 5 And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times.
    Genesis 6: 1-4

Some early Church fathers speculated these "sons of men" were angels. I know, I know, today we are to interpret this in the Augustinian tradition meaning these were God-fearing men. But the other possibility is fascinating, how could that have been possible? It makes one wonder, were the Greeks making up all that nonsense about "gods" wedding mortals?

I think it was Scott Hahn or maybe somewhere else where i read it that the sons of of God were Seth's descendants- those who worshipped God and followed His ways etc. The sons of men were Cains descendants. The sons of God (Seth's decendants) started to Marry or pro create with Cains descendants at a certain point in time. More over, and this is my personal idea, angels or fallen angels do not have bodys they are pure spirits. How would they pro create with a human?

    Genesis 6:4

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

    Numbers 13:33

33 We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

It could be a reference to men like the Cro-Magnons, whose remains and art-work have been found in caves in parts of Southern France, for example. These men had bigger skulls than modern men, and cranial size is directly related to intelligence. As far as I can remember, their cave painting featured perspective, something that was forgotten until the High Middle Ages. The modern myth of progress has deluded people into thinking that man is evolving continually into something more advanced. The evidence of archaeology and the Second Law of Thermodynamics tells us otherwise.

In the book Enoch it seems the fallen angels did "wed" mortals and that was the beginning of the nephilim. The book of Enoch is not sacred scripture so I guess i am going with St Augustine.

I've seen Mary's answer mostly translated as "That is not for you to know now," and I also read that the impression Marija received was that Mary was saying that was not the kind of question she had come to answer.

Just because we might like science fiction, that is not a good use of reasoning skills or prayerful discernment.

The parable of Saint Augustine and the boy with the seashell suggests that the human mind is too small to fully comprehend the great mystery of God in His essence. Perhaps the issue we are discussing encompasses the entire mystery of what God is accomplishing through His plans for all Creation. However, when I think about the plan of Redemption, the hypothesis of alien life opens a huge can of worms in my mind; it simply pushes my understanding to its limits. I think that may be why no Marian apparition approved by the Church has ever given an affirmative answer about it.

I feel similar to you. I don't think on this too much, because the Church has not definitively ruled one way or the other and hasn't found it necessary to do so for 2000+ years...which must mean that we don't need to know. If somehow alien life is proven in the future, the Church will address it and it will fit in with Christ's revelation. If it doesn't fit in, then it can't be true. There are no new revelations outside of Christ.

We don't have to worry about this. Jesus set up His Church to take care of everything we need spiritually.

"Sons of God" "Son" is masculine or male. Angels are pure spirit and neither male or female. "Sons of God" doesnt fit for the description of angels. Sons of God seems more of a referral to men that followed Gods ways.

The Bible talks of something called, 'Secrets of the King'. We also have in Marian Apparitions many Marian Secrets. It reminds me of a family were the parents don't let their children know everything they do. Not out of any badness but for good reasons. because some knowledge might hurt them.

I think it is the same thing with God that there are some things we are better off not knowing in this present life.

Proverbs 25:2: "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter."

It reminds me of the Legend of Pandora's Box:
