Yes a staff was also used to herd sheep, beat off wolves and call to order in a court yard. If you remember a few years ago there were lots of reports of earth sounds, loads of reports and videos I remember back then when I listened to them I remarked that the sound was like someone striking a marble floor with a staff...starting to make sense now..
