Ifa Pope says formally, Abortion is a very serious, a Mortal sin, but in private give a wink and a nod to have abortion, to me is more than personnel sin, That would be teaching Mortal error! I completely reject your sentiments here. Pope haters etc etc. This thread has been perhaps the most interesting of this past year for me anyhow. I have read countless articles and commentaries trying to reconcile the madness of some of Pope francis's statements with Catholic tradition and the mental gymnastics is breathtaking. Pope Benedicts hermenutic of continuity is to be taken in the imperative mood but this is made all the more difficult when one speaks in riddles and prefers the shadow to the clear light of day
fair enough... we all have are thoughts. When I don't understand something Pope Francis says, I ask the Lord to enlighten my mind . Its taken 3 days at times, I confess. I don't have any fear of Pope Francis, non what so ever. Sorry, we disagree on Francis

LOL... I should have noted, it was only one time last year, and I forget the issue I was pondering. But it was eye opening at the time. Hes a very deep thinker Pope Francis, many layers to his thought in my book. If we still had pigeons only Bishops ,Priests and Religious would be having this convo...lol
Malachi, the threads which constantly analyse and psychoanalyse the Pope seem ridiculous. When the Lord Judges each of us, He will ask us if we loved our neighbour as we loved ourselves. How does that tally with the way Holy Father is being treated. Yes there are things we hear which will need much change; but surely to God we believe Jesus is capable of addressing these things, or do we want to be like Judas and try to force God to act. Time to pray and fast. Or as Winston Churchill once said "More wa wa, Less jaw jaw." We need to 'Keep watch and pray.' We are foot soldiers not Princes.
Well I'm no fan of Churchill or his father so I will bypass his advice. As catholics we shouldn't alow pious sentiments to cloud critical judgement and scrutiny. All with charity of course
People forget that the act of Faith is an act of the will and therefore an act of the intellect. Same with judgemt and scrutiny. Faith is not an act of "the heart", which is closely linked to emotions, and the emotions are most affected by the imagination. The evil one has a direct line on our imagination but not on our intellect. If people remember that they may better navigate the minefield that sentimentality often becomes. We're not judged by Faith alone but Faith acting through Love. Love is an act of the intellect and the heart. We have to decide (the intellect and will) to love (which comes from the heart.)
Nothing the Pope says is actually off the cuff - he thinks things through, then tests the waters. This is his methodology. I often think if the Pope was the headmaster of a school then there would be absolute chaos in the corridors, in the playgrounds and in the classrooms. He has a terrible leadership style. He doesn't really want to be a leader. Rather he wants to be a servant of the servants, which is fair enough but the Pope is the head and the head also has to lead properly. In case anyone sees this as an anti-Pope rant it is not. I actually find many things that he says and does inspirational. But he does frustrate the life out of me sometimes with his style of leadership and lack of clarity in some of his teaching that can be interpreted in different ways, leaving us scratching our heads and wondering what is going on. But he doesn't seem to mind 'creating a mess' sometimes.
Malachi, my heart goes out to the Pope. Because the one that gets elected draws the short straw nowadays. The Cardinals must all know about the prophesy of Fatima and what happens to the Pope, and none of them want the job with the knowledge that 'the time is nigh' for a Pope to be snuffed out. Would you want the job, if you thought you were a sitting duck and Church Approved prophesy said you were probably the one for the chop. Just a thought. Pope Francis has even said he did not think his papacy would be very long. We need to pray for him.

In light of the above quotes I now begin to understand why he asked an altar boy who was standing with his hands in prayer 'are your hands bound together'? "It seems like they are stuck" he retorted as he tried to pry his hands apart. The boy was too rigid in his style of worship. This is a very disconcerting video in my opinion - one could argue it was humorous. But honestly if it were my son I would be very angry, very angry indeed. The innocence of childhood interrupted by a foolish act.

One note, Cardinal Burgulio (sp) head of the Latin Bishops conference met in Rio one year before to discuss Church matters and the re evangelizing of Latinos. During the meeting(per ewtn) The Cardinal stated, this document is the fruit from the prayers above(the pilgrams to the shrine of our Lady) Later the same Document was submitted to Pope Benedict XVI for approval for the Latino Bishops. Pope Benedict took and used the same document for the new era of Evangilation for the whole Church. I have started listening this priest only since a few weeks ago. I’ve downloaded a few of his latest homilies in Spanish and I heard them on my mp3 player while I was doing some gardening. I thought it was brilliant. This strange moment that we are living teases our minds and souls deeply, even our good bishops and priests are preaching us in a strange way, with much caution when they talk about the hot issues. But Father Alfonso Galvez is a great surfer who doesn’t tremble, even a bit, in the eye of the storm and goes right thru the most unpleasant waves with the safest understanding of the doctrine/pastoral, talking with holiness and sense of humor. Just brilliant. It was really great, some weeks ago, when he compared our bishops at the synod with the violinists of the Titanic. Good night kid!
No I am not making any of those assertions you just mentioned, I am merely saying that the charism of Papal Infallibility does not protect a Pope from personal sin and I attempted, although feebly, to explain why.
