Pádraig, whenever you get a moment, please remove me from this site. It's become a very angry place where people are not listening to one another and I think I'd like to protect myself from that.

You posted unfounded and unsubstantiated anti American / liberal European talking points about our health care system.

Sorry, but you’re going to have to humbly accept criticism for posting these falsehoods.

  4. I remember when we lived in Germany a friend from England used to use, esp. the dental services in Germany because she said they had such terrible treatments in the UK. She also used the mostly holistic type medicine in Germany for same reason. She's had pretty good care back in UK now, years later, but not choice of many opinions and sometimes surgeries put on hold.....mostly just the basics. She always referred to our great medical services and advanced medicine/technology in America, wishing they had same.

JUST IN: March Madness Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

First the NBA, then the NHL, MLB spring training cancellations and now March Madness.

The NCAA cancelled Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments and all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships due to Coronavirus concerns.

    Via The New York Post:

The NCAA was slow in making its decision. It announced Wednesday that it would play the tournament without any fans after Ohio and Washington — states that were set to host first and second-round games — had announced a ban of large gatherings. Since then, the NBA, NHL, MLB and MLS all suspended their seasons and every conference basketball tournament was canceled.

Prominent voices like TNT analyst Charles Barkley and ESPN analyst Jay Bilas called for the tournament to be postponed Thursday morning, citing the risk for the players even without fans in the buildings.

I talked w/ a business professional, a friend, from China. She visited there months ago to see family and glad she did. She said it was scary when Trump cut off that travel to and from China, since she wouldn't be able to get there if a family member was suffering. She said she's tracked the daily infections and where it was 3000 new cases a day now when she checks it's down to 15 a day. She said she thinks that more severe type quarantines would still have to be done here as cases grow. Apparently only that containment was what got those numbers down.....who knows for certain but that lessening in China is hopeful, after a period of time.

That's a pity. Maybe she will change her mind when restrictions start kicking in.

We'll all just have to trust in God. As the priest at Mass reminded us today, it's in God that we live and move and have our being, and God can bring good from the worst of situations.

Stay safe Jack. You're a good Dad. I hope your kids know how blessed they are to have you.

Ok, she made a mistake, no need for people to vilify her. There's a nice way and a not so nice way of letting someone know their mistake.:(

I took your post to reflect that you are greatly concerned about the healthcare in the US . . .not to worry. We worry about overseas, too. We are in this rough ride together! Keep the Faith.

I was at mass tonight. Not my local chapel, but one nearby. I received communion on the tongue. The priest talked about how the saying of mass is being reviewed. And he will know more tomorrow...

Bella, I think we are all a bit like a coiled spring ready to sproing! Stay and go through this with the rest of us.:)

My Archdiocese of Portland just released this directive. It is to take effect immediately and last until a few days before Easter Sunday. The situation will be re-evaluated at that time.

My husband and I decided to go to the church when others are not present, even if we have to stay outside the doors. We will pray a novena to Our Lady of Monte Berico (https://www.ncregister.com/blog/smc...93VmhKUcy7x8G8eskm0wgOKJK5gyrgY3vK7OKEIFXd68I). Jesus will see us and we will feel closer to Him!

The celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. It is in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that we encounter the mystery of our redemption, are nourished by God’s Word, and receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. For these reasons, the Church places a grave obligation for the faithful to participate at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. This fulfills the Lord’s command to “keep holy the Sabbath.” Nevertheless, for a just cause the Church’s pastors may dispense the faithful from this grave obligation. Given the declared pandemic of the COVID-19 virus, Archbishop Alexander K. Sample therefore issues the following directives. He does so out of an abundance of concern for the health and wellbeing of the people of God entrusted to his pastoral care. The governor of the state of Oregon, Kate Brown, has cancelled all public gatherings of more than 250 people. The fact is that most of the Masses celebrated on the weekends in the Archdiocese of Portland are far below that number. Therefore:
    1. Anyone 60 years or older are encouraged to not attend Mass, since they are the most vulnerable to this virus. They would therefore be dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass.

    2. Persons who have underlying medical issues that put them at risk, or persons with compromised immune systems, are asked not to attend Mass. They, likewise, would be dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass.

    3. Persons who are not feeling well, no matter how mild the symptoms, are urged not to attend Mass. They also would be dispensed from the obligation.

    4. A general dispensation is offered to anyone else in the Archdiocese of Portland who sincerely and seriously think they might be at risk. This dispensation maybe used by anyone of any age.

    5. The faithful who are in attendance at Mass are reminded to avoid all physical contact with others and should attempt to keep a safe distance from each other. These directives and dispensations will remain in effect until April 8, 2020, in keeping with Gov. Brown’s directive. The archdiocese will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation, and offer further direction as circumstances change or as further direction is given by public officials.

  19. We all walk on the same eggshells here. All have suffered similar slings and arrows at some time or another. No special treatment. And actually that's how you learn new things. Always strive for the truth and those facts that can bear it out. The best kind of love......not to be left in error....by people who care for everyone equally. IOW, equal opportunity lecturers!

Remember your previous rightfully asserted respect for free speech. Feelings are running high, Bella. People are very anxious about debilities of their own and for their loved ones. For my own part, I've never been to the US, but I do remember that long-running series, 'ER', which dramatised an emergency room in a deprived area of Chicago, if my memory is correct. It seemed to be the accepted reality that all kinds of people could access a very high standard of health care without having to pay for it. Nobody was ever turned away. Maybe this series was a complete fiction and a lie, but I believe it was intended to be quite true-to-life.

    God bless all here.
