Is Trump really pro life, or is he just pandering for votes?

Discussion in 'The Spirit of the USA' started by BrianK, Jan 24, 2020.

  1. Here is a list of his accomplishments from Priests for Life:
    https://www.priestsforlife.org/elections/trump-prolife-accomplishments.aspx

    1. Under the Trump administration, the unborn have the ultimate advocate. From appointing pro-life judges, to stopping the flow of taxpayer-funds to abortion providers, and defending the unborn abroad -- the case is clear for a second term for President Trump.
    2. President Trump is the most pro-life President in history.
President Trump became the first President in history to speak at the annual March for Life.
Vice President Pence has a long history of being a voice for the voiceless in standing up for the most innocent among us.
    3. Donald Trump and Mike Pence campaigned on the promise to defend life from its earliest stage and to defund Planned Parenthood. President Trump and Vice President Pence have kept that promise.
    4. April 2017: In the first year of the Trump-Pence administration, President Trump signed a bill that allowed states to defund Planned Parenthood of Title X (family planning) funding, reversing an Obama attempt to force states to fund abortion providers.
    5. January 2018: Reversed an Obama Administration policy that blocked states from deciding if Planned Parenthood should be stripped of Medicaid funding.
    6. February 2019: The Protect Life Rule was finalized, cutting Planned Parenthood’s Federal funding by $60 million.
    7. As a result of the President’s policies, Planned Parenthood announced it is withdrawing from the Title X program
This clears the way for health care centers that respect the right to life to receive more federal funding
    8. President Trump and Vice President Pence have spent nearly three years actively working to get life-protecting legislation passed.
    9. The Trump-Pence administration reinstated the Mexico City Policy that ends Federal funding of overseas abortions.
The Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance program was created to ensure that hard earned tax dollars are not funding foreign abortions across all global health spending – not just family planning dollars.
This protects over $8.8 BILLION in overseas aid from being used for abortions.
    10. President Trump has appointed Federal judges that uphold the pro-life view that all life is sacred from the moment of conception.
This includes two pro-life Supreme Court Justices.
    11. President Trump has written Congress on numerous occasions, encouraging and urging them to vote to protect innocent human life.
No-Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2019.
    Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
    Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act
    12. The Trump-Pence administration has issued new guidance ensuring hospitals provide medical care to infants who survive abortions.
    13. The current administration has proposed numerous resolutions to fight the Obama era pro-abortion policies.
Require Obamacare insurers to issue separate invoices for abortion coverage.
Require Obamacare insurers to provide clients an identical plan in the same geographic area that does not provide coverage of abortion.
Reverse the Obama policy that made recipients of certain Federal funding provide abortions.
    14. President Trump has taken the pro-life movement to the world stage: the administration opposes the efforts of the United Nations to make abortion an international human right.
    15. The Trump-Pence administration has taken steps to protect pro-life organizations from having to provide abortion referrals or cover abortion in their health insurance plans.
    16. The Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has dramatically shifted in placing value on the unborn.
Funding for fetal tissue research – which uses aborted human body parts - has been cut.
HHS’ newly created Conscience and Religious Freedom Division fights for doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals who do not wish to have any part in abortions.
The Trump-Pence administration is protecting all Americans’ First Amendment rights.
    17. President Trump and Vice President Pence’s stance on life stands in stark contrast with all of the Democrat candidates.
Every single Democrat running for President wholeheartedly endorse abortion until birth and abortion without restriction.
Democrat candidates’ polices would provide abortion procedures for free at the expense of the hardworking American tax dollars.
    18. President Trump’s most pro-life quotes:
“I will veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life Federal policies and laws, or that encourages the destruction of innocent human life at any stage.”
“My administration has repeatedly demonstrated its respect for human life and conscience at all stages… Today, we recommit ourselves to protecting innocent life every day and at every stage.”

The other reality is the nation is broken in so many ways....who is best to unify? Many questions our next president needs to address. Like 8 years ago, it went be solved with 1 president.

  3. President Trump Will Fight to “Fully Defund” Planned Parenthood During 2nd Term

During his first term, President Donald Trump worked feverishly to cut Planned Parenthood funding everywhere possible. Because no president can unilaterally defund Planned Parenthood, he set out to turn off the spigot of Planned Parenthood funding where he could administratively by changing federal rules to make it more difficult for America’s biggest abortion company to get taxpayer dollars in the various ways it does through multiple federal programs.

President Donald Trump and his administration have been working to block that funding, beginning his first week in office. Trump wasted absolutely no time defunding International Planned Parenthood – a decision he could easily make right after taking the oath of office. And it’s a decision Joe Biden has promised he would overturn on day one if he is elected instead.

Some efforts have been successful, while others have been thwarted by the abortion industry and activist judges. But no one can accuse the Trump administrating of doing nothing to stop Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars from supporting the largest abortion chain in America.
And there are seven different ways President Trump has been working to cut funding to the Planned Parenthood abortion corporation.

In a new letter released yesterday to pro-life Americans, President Trump promising to continue fighting against abortion during his second term in office, saying he would “fight in the trenches for unborn children and their mothers.”

Part of that fighting includes continuing to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion company as one of the bullet points of his letter was to promise to “Fully defund the big abortion industry such as Planned parenthood of our tax dollars.”

Leading pro-life advocates told LifeNews.com they were delighted by the letter and looked forward to expanding on the pro-life successes from President Trump’s first term.

“During his first term, President Trump has become the most pro-life president our nation has ever seen,” Marjorie Dannenfelser of Susan B. Anthony List said. “But there is more work to be done and that is why the pro-life movement is working vigorously to secure four more years for President Trump and Vice President Pence.”

Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins also praised Trump’s letter.

“A great divide is widening between those who want to support a culture of life and those who want to require all Americans to be forcibly coerced in funding and supporting abortion through all nine months of pregnancy,” she told LifeNews. “In this race, voters must determine a candidate’s plans for abortion as this is literally a life and death issue.”

In the letter to leaders and activists in the pro-life movement, President Trump reiterated his commitment to defend the unborn:

“As I seek re-election this November, I need your help in contrasting my bold pro-life leadership with Joe Biden’s abortion extremism. The Democratic Party unequivocally supports abortion on-demand, up until the moment of birth, and even infanticide — leaving babies to die after failed abortions. Joe Biden’s embrace of this extreme position is most evidenced by his support for taxpayer funding of abortion on-demand. Forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions is an abhorrent position that must be defeated at the ballot box. Joe Biden has doubled down on these positions with his selection of abortion extremist Kamala Harris as his running mate. With your help, I will win re-election, ensuring we have another four years to fight in the trenches for unborn children and their mothers.”

    Brian,
“I’m convinced now that child is Barron Trump, and that couple was he and Melania. He really has had a pro life conversion.”
This speculation never occurred to me, but I think this was very probable!! His conversion seems sincere.
    His record is absolutely clear!

Trump is the only candidate that is prolife regardless! No real catholic could ever, ever vote for Biden.
initially I didn’t believe that Trump was sincere about his stated pro-life position...but no one is happier to be wrong that me! I believe this man has had a conversion of the heart. All things are possible with God! His record is clear...he has been the most pro-life president ever elected to office. His repeated reference to GOD and our God given rights ....and again, his record proves he is the clear choice for anyone who calls themselves a a Christian.

does anyone watch EWTN? They perpetually state that Trump's position on the issues is consistent with Church teaching. If he wins, which he will, we can
expect a bad response from the left, in my humble opinion.

I am convinced things will be bad no matter who is voted into that office.

It matters greatly who becomes president although I agree it will be bad no matter who is elected. As Father Ripperger has so wisely stated this is not a matter of left vs. right ideology, but rather, a battle between good and evil. Therefore, the globalist, new orlder left will not accept another Trump victory, so they'll up their game at Michelle Obama promised at the Democratic National Convention this summer.

Hi all-I read through this thread from the beginning because I was intrigued to see what everyone’s responses were. I struggle with whom to vote for for reasons similar to Frodo. I will not be voting for Biden for the same reasons as you all listed above, but it is difficult for me to vote for Trump, and I think it has to do with the term “pro-life.” I do not like the term “anti-abortion” because it’s used in a negative way, but I think unfortunately some on the Republican side are just that-only against abortion, and not for life in any other way. This is not a generalization of all who are pro-life or anyone on this forum; I just think it is an unfortunate reality that our two party system has wrought. And also unfortunately, those who are pro-choice or pro-abortion love to use this argument against many who are pro-life, saying that we only care about the child until he/she is born.

I bring this up for more than one reason. First, I find myself surrounded by many friends and family who feel the same, and I’m unsure of the best way to engage them in a conversation, so any feedback y’all have is great. Also-I live in a state that is decidedly blue and is not going to swing. My vote in a presidential election does not count, so to say. I know that if everyone who felt that way voted Republican it might be different, but it’s not going to happen. I’m considering voting for a third party candidate because as I recently found out, many of these parties rely on elections like this to be allowed to put forth a candidate on a national ticket as opposed to just a general write-in. I really do not think our problems in this country are going to be fixed with our current two party system, filled with so much hate and division. And if our current discussion is about voting for the better of two imperfect candidates, shouldn’t we at some point begin to advocate for a (more) perfect one? Just some thoughts and like I said I’d love to hear feedback.

Why not just vote for GOOD instead of PURE EVIL. I hope that simplifies it for you

Not sure if you are referring to Biden when you say pure evil, but if you are, I did mention that I wouldn’t vote for him because of stance on abortion and other pro life issues. My question was more about struggling to vote for Trump.

You are voting for him for President
You are not signing his yearbook and taking him to lunch
You are voting for him to do a job
    Btw
Our pro-life group at church has a banner that says
Support life from conception to natural death
    I appreciate your honesty

Just wanted to share some thoughts, on a conversation I recently had with someone who said...Trump was divisive, a misogynist, racist, a homophobe, and that he was going to vote for Biden, since in his eyes, Biden represents the less of two evils. This person is a Catholic, mind you. I then said these words. Let me get this straight...you are pro-life, however you are voting for Biden, holding your nose because he IN YOUR eyes he's not a racist, etc. etc.? Let me remind you we are not supposed to ELECT the most perfect being. That's not what voting is. VOTING FOR THE PERFECT BEING WILL BE AN IMPOSSIBILITY HERE ON EARTH. The act of voting for someone into power WILL ALWAYS BE the act of voting for THE LESSER of two evils, PERIOD. Anything beyond this practical reality is an exercise in self-delusion.

Also, the FACT that you told me that you are against abortion, but that however you like Biden's stance on Social Security, DACA, so on and so forth tells me a lot about YOU.

    1) It tells me that you rank the killing of INNOCENT children in the womb lower in terms of importance in the sense your morality.
    2) That you are placing earthly wants ahead of God's will and not only that...but you are also selfishly thinking about YOURSELF and the benefits that Biden will somehow bestow upon YOU.

I can't imagine St. John of the Cross, St. Theresa of Avila, St. Faustina...or any Saint for that matter EVER contemplating on social ills ranking above that of life. Or if put in a position of having to vote; would ever vote for someone who appeals to being nicer...or promises to give them free healthcare OVER the innocent life in the womb. Absolute...selfishness. You need to sort your head straight, I told him. ....He did not respond.

Don't let the evil one deceive you in this election, the 2020 election is a choice, either you stand with God, or the dark forces.

12 For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12.

The choice is simple: As Roman Catholics we stand with God. Trump, whether we like him or not as a person , is carrying God's banner he is standing for the unborn. None of the other presidential candidates are fighting for the unborn. In my lifetime, he is the only president who has been willing to battle the abortion industry,

In many ways, God has given the American people a test:

If you don't vote - by your silence, you vote for abortion
If you vote for a pro-choice candidate, you vote for abortion
If you vote for Biden - you vote for abortion
If you vote for Trump - You vote for Life, you stand with God.

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6: 13-14

I pray we as a nation don't fail this test. For we should not fear what man can do to us, but God's wrath is a fearful thing.

I really like the 2nd point you make here. I never thought to phrase it that way. You’re very right when you say that a vote reveals a great deal about someone and whether or not they put others before themselves. Thank you for such great insight :)

That’s an excellent point that I think speaks a lot to the failures of our political system and us as voters: we place such a heavy emphasis on likeability as opposed to results. I do think that Trump has achieved a great deal more than when realize, especially given such negative coverage by the media. Thank you for your thoughts! I will really take that to heart.
