Live. Amazing scenes. These are going all over the World. Prayers. This makes the Canadian Government look very,very bad indeed. Pepper spraying like crazy...what are they thinking? Mad. Can't get over how peaceful these people are..so admirable...
Lots of people are reporting that she has a dislocated shoulder. Painful for anyone, not too serious for a young and fit person but serious for an elderly lady. With the weather at -18, the ground was very slippery. Sending mounted police through a crowd in those conditions was a tragedy waiting to happen. This morning they used tear gas on one occasions and followed up with pepper spray. Apart from that incident with the horse, the police were mostly restrained yesterday. Looking at this morning's live streams, the police are more aggressive. There are more of them than protesters. They are pushing forward using batons and pepper spray and are backed up by mounted police and what look like units from the military. I'm not sure whether they are military because people are saying that there are police units there from all over Canada and they don't recognise all the uniforms. There's a public announcement playing continuously in English and French telling people to leave the red zone or they will be arrested. Nobody seems to know where the red zone begins and ends. Newslycanada live, Rebel News, Tireroasters Garage are live streaming now. So is Viva Frei but he only began streaming a few minutes ago. Others have been there since early morning. All credit to the truckers for not responding violently. Some trucks were towed and the drivers arrested. Some left voluntarily to regroup. Trudeau's supporters are hailing this a victory for him. Any victory for Trudeau is a pyrrhic one. The truckers are the real victors in this. They showed Trudeau for the pathetic excuse for a human being he is. In fact, looking at the debates in the Canadian Parliament, all the politicians showed themselves to be the real waste of space.
Some Military Police. They seem to be shipping them in from the Outer Moon Bases. Something really astonishing seems to be happening here. A real wake up call to the World. I think Pope Francis is sending in the Swiss Guard to help move them. I am sure I saw Cardinals Cupich and Tobin pepper spraying.
The main lesson I learned these past two years is that civil rights mean nothing. Our Constitution meant nothing when I was restricted to moving no further than 5 km from my home while anyone could enter the country by air or sea and move wherever they wished without restrictions. It meant even less when they removed by right to practice my religion. After that, telling me that I couldn't eat in a restaurant unless I was vaccinated was an easy decision for the Government. We have a Republic but the system of government made no difference to the unvaccinated almost everywhere Freedom can be removed on the say so of a handful of doctors on the payroll of people elected by nobody. Watch now as the political class in Canada use the truckers as a political football.
Well they might have closed, with the cooperation and agreement of the Bishops of the World and our Holy Father the Pope, all the Churches in the Entire Planet as non essential. But I am glad they never closed down any liquor stores. Irish Whiskey, apparently being deemed as essential. The Body and Blood of Christ, The Eternal Sacrifice and the Proclamation of the Gospel as non essential. Go figure. I suppose by the same logic they are deeming the suppression of the Canadian Truckers as essential. I have no doubt whatsoever that Our Holy Father the Pope will see the truckers getting peppered sprayed in the eyes as an essential service. He did after all ruthlessly sack all Vatican City staff who would not take the experimental vaccines. So himself and Trudeau are singing from the same page.
Why, by the way, are prominent Canadian Catholic speakers like Fr Mark Goring and Brian Holdsworth so quiet about all this? Why the total, total silence? Too hot to handle? Agree with it, disagree with it, but saying nothing, nothing at all? I mean really? ..just silence, like none of this is happening? Why? They have loads and loads to say about anything and everything else, but in this, their own country? I'm from distant Ireland, thousands of miles away and I am astonished and deeply, deeply impressed by it all. Why the silence? In season...and out of season.. 2 Timothy 4 :: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.
Sorry to say, Padraig, that the Church in Canada is very much on Trudau's side in this. I've just read a piece in Crux where they quoted a priest complaining about the disruption. Seems that he had to cancel a funeral at the beginning of the protest because his church is very near the centre of activities. He went on to say that Mass had to be cancelled because his parishioners were afraid of being harrassed. He repeated almost verbatim the Trudau narrative of people not being able to go to work, businesses not being able to open, etc. The article did quote a Bishop who urged everyone to be vaccinated but said he wouldn't be imposing mandates for people attending Mass. So, I suppose that's better than nothing. If we hadn't seen the live streams for ourselves, we would believe that the protesters were terrorists. I'll bet that there were Catholics among those protesters. Fr. Goring said that he lived nearby. I hope that he found a way to discreetly serve the spiritual needs of Catholic protesters.
