In addition to creating an atmosphere for violence this Jack sh*t stupid proposal from Biden to do away with filibuster is an attack on what little is left in the Republic once know as the United States of America.

His and fellow Dems shortsighted plan will lead to all sorts of exceptions. Biden is too stupid to know /understand that a republic is different from a democracy. If that’s what he wants then say it it- it would lead to what Europe has - majority rules period. It’s bad and dies not work.

I thought when he took office, I may need to find another state to move to - but now no state is “safe”. Not many options.

aplogies if I’ve offended anytime or am being a “downer”. But, I’m looking at a very bleak future here for my country as it gets ready to celebrate it independence. How ironic.

If we follow events and see their escalating violence its very easy to fall into despondency. Those are the times I go to the psalms: "only in God will my soul be at rest...in Him lies my hope my salvation...He alone is my Rock of refuge...my strength my glory my God..."

I heard this story from a very holy old priest when I was very, very young over 50 years ago.

A lady in County Cork was approached by a policeman and told her Fisherman only son's body had been found on a beach after a Great Storm. The policeman went on to say, as is the Irish custom,

'I am sorry for your trouble'.

    To which the mother replied,

'Sure the Holy Will of God is never a Trouble'.

Fulton Sheen also told a wonderful story of a woman who had been run over by a horse and carriage rig in Dublin in the 1920's and who was nursed by a Catholic Nun as she lay dying of horrific injuries, especially to her poor legs.

The nun lamented the ladies misfortune to which the dying lady replied that the Will of God was never a misfortune and she died , days lady with the Greatest Christian resignation.

I nursed my grandmother one night in her little home as she lay dying of cancer on her sofa in her living room as she could not get up the stairs to bed. She had raised a family, alone and deserted in the greatest poverty and with numerous physical illnesses.

I still recall that I never heard her make a simple complaint.

Perhaps our own sufferings, which hover on the horizon like a distant storm will bring us similiar Strength, Courage and Faith.

I needed to read this now. I was terminated from my job on Friday. I've been praying the Surrender Novena and that helps.

I am so grateful that my family was mostly of Irish stock. That strong faith that can love the Will of God in all things as these stories show is uplifting. My mother had this kind of faith and so did my aunt and uncle. It is a great grace but it is also a condition of the heart that Our Lady helps us with--anyone meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary learns this over time. At least that is what it seems to me.

What a sea of orphans our culture is--flailing about without faith and whining with one grievance after another. Poor souls. Unmoored from their heritage and unwilling to grab the life line that Our Lord is throwing to them. And yet there but for the grace of God go I. Without the Blessed Mother and my own mother's prayers I shudder to imagine where I might be.

    Great post, AED.

I just ran into a former student of mine from a LONG time ago. He said his pastor always tells them not to forget where they came from. I felt so blessed after we talked. There are still God's children walking about out there and when our paths cross, it is so uplifting.
Muzhik, I am so sorry that you are going through this stressful situation. Yes, the Surrender Novena is the biggest help. There has to be another door opening soon. I echo Miker's thoughts: please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Yes, I'm praying, too.

Lots of memories from these beautiful posts. I recall my own Irish mom final years. She had COPD- which you may know if quite frightening in that you can’t breathe/ not to be too graphic but essentially one “drowns” as the lungs continue to fill with fluid. This is what mom endured for many years. And she never complained and lived life to full. Well after being rushed to hospital as it got worse/ she told my wife and I when we arrived that she was done fighting. We said no and cried and I think only as an Irish mom can do- sat up and looked us sternly in the eyes saying, “Get over yourselves. I’ve had a most blessed life. You will make me a liar before God if I run from this. So now, your taking to you home where I will pass back to God”. Well what are you going to do when you get that. You listen to your mother :) We got mom home and despite hospice telling us she would live a few months and would die a hard death- she only lasted a week and left in peace with all the sacraments and prayers of her family and Church.

    God is good.
