I am curious to know if any of you yourselves have chosen to be a victim soul, or know anyone else who has and what happened? What I mean is if you have a family member who did this, and it was accepted, what did they go through? What did their family members go through? because it seems like a lot of work taking care of a victim soul.

We discussed this a few months ago. The consensus was that it is a way of life only to be undertaken at the express will of God. Otherwise it will be more than one can humanly bear. I advise you to do a search on this site to find the discussion. I found it helpful and enlightening.

Do I know a victim soul? Not aware of it but them I doubt anyone would speak of it. There are probably a few in monasteries.

one of the reasons I wish i'd enter medical school is to meet such people. many victim souls take unto themselves grave illness or at least suffer them without painkillers, terminal disease etc.
(a friend's dad underwent major surgery without anesthesia but he was just crazy )

Do mothers who shed tears of suffering and persevere in prayer for the conversion of their rebellious children also assume the vocation of a victim soul in some way?

I can attest that it is a very particular kind of suffering.

  9. Yes. I believe so. I've seen my own mom do it, my granny, and I myself would do anything for my late daughter's salvation and my other kids and grandkids.

One day Padre Pio told his doctor: "I am praying for the good death of my great grandfather." Doctor: "But he died over a hundred years ago." Padre Pio: "Remember that for God there is no past and no future. So God made use at that time of the prayers I am saying now."

“I told God a while back that if I were able, and it wouldn’t be too much for me to handle or place my soul at risk, and I could still support my family, and I wasn’t saying it out of personal pride, I’d be willing to carry more of a cross than my daily sacrifices, in reparation for my own sins and if it would help souls that might otherwise be lost. I guess there were a lot of strings attached on my part in those days, a lot of “conditional” surrender.

“The last few years were very difficult, but I’ve been able to work through it all. Then late last year I told my spiritual director about this, because I was frustrated that I didn’t always bear these crosses magnanimously, and the burden was often shared unbeknownst by my wife and children, which just didn’t seem “fair.” He simply looked at me, asked me why I had not told him before (because I never should have done anything so terribly naïve without his advice, and it would have made events in my life over the last couple years far more comprehensible to him) and simply said to expect something very serious, and very soon…”
Some may offer to carry an additional cross without being a victim soul.

It’s not necessarily advisable for most and can be done out of spiritual pride. God places more than enough crosses in our lives without explicitly asking for more.

I know someone who asked to be a victim soul without getting any spiritual direction, like none at all. Some serious complications in their lives now. It happened like a day after they asked.

I did not ask. I was asked. And I'm like, well, uh, I'd prefer not to if You don't mind.

Anneliese Michel was a very different case from Victim Soul, it seems. My only regret is that today Germany seems to be one of the countries that least believes in the existence of the devil.

  16. I would never ask to be one....it takes a special person to be a victim soul. Anneliese Michel did become a victim soul by saying Yes!!! To the Blessed Mother. She was given a choice and she chose to suffer. God rest her beautiful soul

My mom was a victim soul. She told the doctors to continue senseless treatments knowing her cancer was terminal. Also, she made sure the doctors would never admit that she was dying in front of her family. She suffered in order to unite the family again. There was a great division before her cancer, but she held off on taking morphine, so she could make sure her siblings forgave each other. She forgave them too. Mom was an amazing woman. She certainly must be loved in heaven, because she’s been allowed to appear here on earth. Miss her everyday.

I don't know if my translation was very accurate, but in any case, I wanted to say that the case of Anneliese Michel was that of a victim soul, however, something that goes beyond the conventionality of some mystics who spent a large part of their lives confined to a bed of illnesses, and in some cases, they received the marks of crucifixion.

Did she ask to be a victim soul then get cancer? Not trying to pry. I am just curious how your family did once she was diagnosed. I know the family came together which is good. Everyone helped out providing for her needs?
