If WWIII is to occur so quickly, it seems that on one side there will be Russia and its satellites in its Federation, China (communist), North Korea (communist and insane) and Iran (Shia Islamist, fundamentalist and longing to drop an atomic bomb on the west for Allah} on one side and on the other several imperfectly democratic but infinitely freer western nations whose great fault is not enthusiasm for war but a desperate fear of being involved in one.
It is the so-called free nations who seem most keen on escalation, although, despite the democracy you laud, I wouldn't put down much money on the prospect of a vote. If Armageddon ensues, and we all find ourselves spectating at the Last Judgement, expect our former system of government to not feature very highly on The Agenda.
Democracy was never a matter of asking the public what to do, the electorate vote for those that they trust to make the decisions. The autocracies don't allow a vote on who is going to make the decisions. The Russians recently warmly greeted the Afghan Taliban to an economic summit, you know those people who have public executions and don't let girls go to school. Choose your side but please don't pretend that the good guys include the murderous thug Putin, Xi, Kim Jong Il and the current Ayatollah. They don't.
There are no good sides in this, the only good side ever is Christ. Everything is happening as prophesied.
There is a group that thinks they are doing God's will by ushering in Armageddon. I do not think we are infinitely freer. During the 'vaccination'-campaign, Westerners were coerced into accepting experimental genetic manipulation to their bodies. In contrast, Russia and China had alternatives - more classical vaccines such as Sputnik and Sinovac. My Chinese mother-in-law had no problems remaining completely unvaccinated. Also, in the West, sexual perversion is being pushed into families. Those who disagree risk that their children are being taken away from them.
The 'good guys' are obviously the abortion-holocaust enthusiast Biden, Blinken, Zelensky and their NATO colleagues, not to mention the role of Israeli Zionism in promoting world war in the interests of their illicit, genocidal imposture of a state. Anyone who opts for possible Armageddon in the interests of 'democracy' (something Christ never promoted, nor even mentioned, although the Greeks had already invented it-He actually advised giving to ruthless, murderous Caesar what was his due) is a madman. Such a reason for a war is wholly indefensible by Catholic Just War Theology. It is arguable that the West's neoconservative attempt to impose a worldly 'democratic' utopia not only flies in the face of the promises of Christ, but is inevitably doomed to cataclysmic failure. You advise me to choose my side. In such a choice, I choose no side. I just pray to Christ to save us from this evil insanity.
I don't buy newspapers, but I read an online one, 'The Journal', because it's free. Totally progressive editorial policy, but one can read between the lines. All they're worrying about this morning is that the people's choice of candidates for the European Parliament is insufficiently concerned with 'global warming', thereby jeopardising the planet somehow or other. Nothing whatsoever about the actual threat to humanity and our planet that is presented by the very real risk of escalation by Alien and/or Predator in the Ukrainian conflict.
The only difference as far as I can tell is that it has been prophesied that God has raised up Russia as a means of chastisement.
