The last time a visionary received a secret was 26 years ago. Our Lady told Jakov on September 11, 1998, who was in Miami, Florida, in the United States at the time, that the following day She would confide to him the tenth secret and that this would be the end of his daily apparitions. Visionary, Mirjana, who is also Jakov’s cousin, was with him in Miami. She describes what happened: On September 11, 1998, Our Lady appeared to Jakov just as she had every day since the beginning. I knelt in another room and prayed in silence. Knowing what he could see, it was too painful for me to be near him. When the apparition ended this time, however, Jakov came to me with tears in his eyes. I need to speak with you,’ he said. Today was my last regular apparition. Our Lady asked me to prepare myself to receive the tenth secret tomorrow.’ My heart broke for him and I started crying as well. ‘I’m so sorry, Jakov,’ I said, thinking about the confusion and despair I had felt so many years before. I worried that Our Lady’s absence would be even more difficult for Jakov to accept than it had been for me. After his mother died, Our Lady practically raised him. Now, at 27 years old, Jakov would have to face the world without the solace of seeing her everyday. Let’s pray,’ I said, and we spent much of that evening on our knees…The next day, Our Lady appeared to Jakov at 11:15 a.m., much earlier than usual, and she stayed longer than she normally did. Half an hour later, when the apparition ended, Jakov cried and went off to be alone. Our Lady was sad while confiding the tenth secret and then with a gentle smile she gave the following message. Dear child! I am your mother and I love you unconditionally. From today I will not be appearing to you every day, but only on Christmas, the birthday of my Son. Do not be sad, because as a mother I will always be with you and like every true mother I will never leave you. And continue further to follow the way of my Son, the way of peace and love and try to persevere in the mission that I have confided to you. Be an example of that man who has known God and God’s love. Let people always see in you an example of how God acts on people and how God acts through them. We’re beginning our program now and we shall pray together with our Mother the queen of Peace. We pray for her intentions, her plans of peace that she wants to realize with all of us. We all prayed several rosaries together and then after Our Lady’s apparition Ivan shared: Dear priests, dear friends in Christ, and dear all of you who are connected with us through internet today: I would like to use this brief time to describe to you and bring closer to you the content of the meeting with Our Lady tonight. It is very hard with the words of this world to describe to you what happens.... I will use the words I have. I will tell you with my own words, and try to tell you. Today Our Lady came to us very joyful and very happy. She greeted us with her motherly greeting, “Praised be Jesus dear children of mine!” She turned her gaze to all of us and prayed over all of us for a certain time. After that Our lady continued to pray over all of us. And in a special way she prayed for vocations in the church. In that prayer Our Lady left us with the sign of the light and of the cross with the words “Go in peace dear children of mine!” That would have been the most essential in my own words. It is hard to say everything in my own words, especially her love and her joy in these days. And as you saw, and heard yourself, Our Lady prayed in a special way for peace. And this is what she’s asking us all the time, especially all of us who are praying together for her intentions, is to pray for peace. How much we really need this. I find that appeals to the “fruits” are often completely oblivious to the less than positive ones. The Secrets are very confusing. Does anyone know if they were all given the same ten secrets? Or were each of the given a different ten secrets, which would mean a 100 in all? A hundred seems an awful, awful lot of secrets!
I've always been agnostic about Medjugorje because one of the first messages seems to encourage the belief that all religions are equivalent before God, in the sense that God governs each person's faith as a king governs his subjects, which can inevitably lead to one of Pope Francis' most erroneous teachings. However, I am not sure if this is the most accurate translation of the message in its original sense.
The message doesn't say all religions are equal before God, or even imply it IMO. It says members of all faiths are equal before God. The following line "God rules over each faith just like a sovereign over his kingdom." parallels this line in scripture. Matthew 5:45 That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust. Essentially saying that God rules over it all, regardless of the religion they follow. Then it goes on to say that not all religions are the same because people have not complied with the commandments of God. Implying that if we followed God's commandments, the whole world would be under one religion. Because everyone would have converted. Then Our Lady goes on to say even in different churches (implied within the Catholic church) it is different. Then she goes on to lament about how no one is following the way of God in it's completeness. But in time that everyone will. What I take away from this is that everyone on earth has the potential to come to God. That somehow we aren't following the commandments of God correctly, and if we did the entire world would be united under one religion. The commandments in the Gospels outline everything IMO. These aren't just rules that God smiles upon when followed, but rather explain the nature of our being and relationship with God.
I respect your opinion, but I believe that if God governed each person’s faith as a king governs his subjects, He would inevitably lead them to the truth, according to the doctrine of predestination taught by Saint Augustine. It is true that our Lord healed some pagans who had faith, but that served to help them recognize His divinity and fully integrate into the true Church. There are many religions in the world, but few emphasize the fundamental concept of redemption. I believe that if God governs a person's faith, He leads them to a full understanding of the truth, as He did with Paul by removing the scales from his eyes and restoring his sight.
Interesting debate - let me throw the Catechism into the mix 843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."
With all due respect, I didn't agree with anything you said. I simply believe that if God truly governed the faith of each person, He would lead them to the full truth, just as He did with Saint Paul, and consequently, there would no longer be any false religion in the world.
God not only guided Paul in his faith to the fullness of truth but also transformed him into the apostle to the Gentiles. This is the same Paul who opposed the doctrine of some of his former companions in faith who did not convert and who said that any different gospel should be accursed.
