My daughter, Rachel, home-schools her children south of Los Angeles in Orange County, but knows another home-schooling family up in Pasadena, CA, who lost their home to the fires. Hardly anything remains apart from a shrine to Our Lady that had been in front of their former home. The family made a Youtube clip of their singing Latin hymns to Our Lady upon their return. Now that is what I call faith! O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
Yes, it reminds me of the Book of Job : The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the Name of the Lord!
https://thepathlesstaken7.blogspot.com/2025/01/at-distance-from-devastating-infernos-i.html January 08, 2025 AT A DISTANCE FROM DEVASTATING INFERNOS, I AM TOTALLY FINE AND SAFE, JUST DUSTY All during last night, the air was filled in my place with smoky air that felt like burning homes were nearby; there was a wildfire raging at its worst in Pacific Palisades, once home to actor, Matthew Perry. 30,000 have been forced to flee and the number is growing. The above image was taken from the Palisades shoreline. Thankfully I am further up the Pacific was not near the blaze, just saturated in brown ash. I had a taste of it in my mouth, and the streets had swirling dust bowls on every path. Their milder form are called "Santa Ana winds" and they are like the sirocco winds of Sicily that spin all debris in their paths and make a rustling noise, but these these were the lingering wind rings of a great storm. They were up to 99 miles per hour. Driving was never so crazy in Los Angeles, and that is saying something. I had errands to run around my neighborhood today and so many cars were wearing a thick film of dust, making it harder for the drivers to see. My hair looked like someone had dusted Miss Havisham's house with it. Some of us offered the Litany of the Saints that the storm that might abate and stop all together, there is the petition to deliver us from tempests, the older word for hurricane level wind. Since much prayer has been sent up, and I believe, the Litany of the Saints, things have calmed considerably. Long may this continue. I include the Litany, as I did here, that ye all might like to offer it for the citizens of my city: they need it so badly. The Litany of the Saints Lord, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Pray, pray, praying... Often considered the “Roll Call of Heaven,” this prayer appeals to the communion of saints for their intercession and guidance. The Holy Spirit just reminded of a hymn, "When the Saints go marching in". O Lord, I want to be in that number, etc:
I always think of mystic Marie-Julie Jahenny, when I think of the purple scapular. https://www.scapulars-au.com/scapular-of-benediction-protect Protection During Tribulations In 1878 Jesus and Mary gave the Purple Scapular to Marie-Julie Jahenny, who foretold (along with other approved Catholic visionaries) that a worldwide judgement-in-miniature known as the Warning is coming. "Divine wrath will not strike." Mary told Jahenny: Those who possess the purple scapular "will see their family and home protected ...from fires, chastisements, storms, and darkness. They will have light as if it were plain day." It is "like a lightning rod beneath which the blows of divine wrath will not strike."
Love this! It resonates very much in me that trusting in God and turning to Him and Our Lady in the midst of tragedy and suffering in the best response. Prayers for all those suffering in these fires.
Heroic virtue. Just like the saints. Heroic. 'Heroic virtue is a Christian virtue that describes a person who has a habit of good conduct that has become second nature. It's also a degree of bravery, fame, and distinction that sets someone apart from others. The term was coined by Augustine of Hippo to describe the virtue of early Christian martyrs. In the Catholic Church, heroic virtue is considered a prerequisite for canonization. A person who has practiced heroic virtue is called a “Servant of God” and is declared to be Venerable. Some characteristics of heroic virtue include: Performing virtuous actions with ease, promptitude, and pleasure Having supernatural motives Self-abnegation Full control over natural inclinations Practicing faith, hope, and charity to an eminent degree Some examples of virtues that are part of heroic virtue include: Charity and good works Conscience and faith Fortitude and infinite patience Hope and love Imitation of God and prayer Justice and piety Prudence and temperance'
Awesome! Does this blessing need to be done on Epiphany or can it be done at other times? Anyone have the words of this blessing?
We have a little pamphlet in our Church of how to do it. I must take a picture. I did it during covid, many people did. You can do it anytime, but I think you're supposed to use the Blessed chalk which is blessed on the Epiphany.
I see you can do it with Epiphany water too. Some people get the priest in to do it which is fairly long and ornate . But most do it themselves, it only takes a few minutes
Psalm 91 gains even greater protective power in these moments when combined with the Holy Rosary, I believe.
The blessed Mary statue made Fox News. Their house was dedicated to the Sacred Heart. We had a major house fire back in 2010 on Divine Mercy Sunday. It was just our house though, not the whole town. Due to the day it occurred, I think it was a message telling me it was His Will and not to worry. All in His plan. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
The text of the prayer is found in one of the comments below the video: "Most Blessed Virgin Mary, whose heart is sorrowful and immaculate, we recognize Thee as the Lady and Queen of this house. We consecrate this house and everything in this house to your immaculate care and maternal protection. Have the kindness to preserve it from any evil, from fire, water, thunderstorms, earthquakes, from robbers, wicked people, from revolutions, war, raids, from persecution and taxes, from every other evil known by Thee. Bless, protect, defend, and preserve as thy personal property those who live and will live here. Keep them from adversity and misfortune but above all preserve them from offending God. Let not a single mortal sin be ever committed in this house and may all those who enter it work for the glory of God. For the reign of Jesus and Mary let this house be forever consecrated to you, O Jesus and Mary. Let it be blessed with all those who inhabit it. Amen." Note: This was the prayer that devout French Catholics posted on the doors of their houses in the past. You may want to delete the word “taxes”.
Here is the text of the Epiphany blessing (taken from the USCCB website): Blessing of the Home and Household on Epiphany The traditional date of Epiphany is January 6, but in the United States it is celebrated on the Sunday between January 2 and January 8. When all have gathered, a suitable song may be sung. The leader makes the sign of the cross, and all reply, “Amen.” The leader greets those present in the following words: Let us praise God, who fills our hearts and homes with peace. Blessed be God forever. R/. Blessed be God forever. In the following or similar words, the leader prepares those present for the blessing: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling place among us. It is Christ who enlightens our hearts and homes with his love. May all who enter this home find Christ’s light and love. One of those present or the leader reads a text of sacred Scripture, for example, Luke 19:1-9: Listen to the words of the holy Gospel according to Luke: Jesus came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town. Now a man there named Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man, was seeking to see who Jesus was; but he could not see him because of the crowd, for he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus, who was about to pass that way.> When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.” And he came down quickly and received him with joy. When they all saw this, they began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham.” The intercessions are then said: Leader: The Son of God made his home among us. With thanks and praise let us call upon him. R/. Stay with us, Lord. Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, with Mary and Joseph you formed the Holy Family: remain in our home, that we may know you as our guest and honor you as our Head. We pray: R/. Stay with us, Lord. Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, you had no place to lay your head, but in the spirit of poverty accepted the hospitality of your friends: grant that through our help the homeless may obtain proper housing. We pray: R/. Stay with us, Lord. Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, the three kings presented their gifts to you in praise and adoration: grant that those living in this house may use their talents and abilities to your greater glory. We pray: R/. Stay with us, Lord. The leader invites all to say the Lord’s Prayer. The leader says the prayer of blessing with hands joined: Lord God of heaven and earth, you revealed your only-begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. Fill them (us) with the light of Christ, that their (our) concern for others may reflect your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R/. Amen. The leader concludes the rite by signing himself or herself with the sign of the cross and saying: May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm, and make us one in mind and heart, now and forever. R/. Amen. It is preferable to end the celebration with a suitable song, for example, “O Come, All Ye Faithful” or “We Three Kings.
He prays the prayer out loud on the above clip, so if you are patient, you could copy it down as he prays it. Then pray it yourself. When prayed on the feast day of the Epiphany, some Catholics use blessed caulk and place the first letter of each king's name plus the date above on the door frame. We also have placed a frame containing the purple scapular of mystic, Julie Jehenny, which she claimed has similar protective promises. It is hung on a wall in our home. O Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee!
