Hard to believe Ash Wednesday is next week. We are very blessed as Catholics to have this season. I once heard a catechist describe Lent as similar to what the Israelites experienced when they wandered in the desert for 40 years. The actual distance from where they crossed to the Promised Land would only take a few weeks to walk. Yet God had them there for 40 years. Why? Well he said because in tgat desert they would discover where their hearts were at. What a struggle it was for them- grumbling, false idols , and even wanting to go back to their place of captivity. Finally after 40 years, they learned all that was garbage. Their first and full love was God. That’s when they entered the Promised Land. In these 40 days of Lent, we have a similar opportunity to enter into whatever our desert is and hopefully come out at Easter into the promised Land. Discovering where our hearts lie. I pray this will happen this Lent for me and all of you. This free resource came to my email today. Scott Hahn is awesome. I signed up. I also will read and reflect with Bishop Sheen’s little book- the 7 Last Words of Christ. Happy Lent! https://my.stpaulcenter.com/?utm_so...460843231&mc_cid=cce113278a&mc_eid=82a52f72f3
Hello friends, its been awhile since I've posted. I just have a question regarding the proper way to adorn the altar, statues, etc during Lent. I (along with another person) take care of the flowers all year long in our church. Last year for Lent, we removed all the flowers in the church and set up a "desert display" in front of the main altar (as requested by my Pastor). We also placed vases with twigs next to the tabernacle, in front of the podiums, and next to all the statues (in keeping with what others did in prior years before I started doing it). My thought is that we should only have the "dessert display" on the altar and that everything else should be kept bare. How do your churches adorn the altar during Lent? Thanks for any advice
I’m a traditionalist at heart. I wouldn’t put a desert on the altar or in the sanctuary but that’s me. guy
