'Thus St. John Damascene, an outstanding herald of this traditional truth, spoke out with powerful eloquence when he compared the bodily Assumption of the loving Mother of God with her other prerogatives and privileges. "It was fitting that she, who had kept her virginity intact in childbirth, should keep her own body free from all corruption even after death. It was fitting that she, who had carried the Creator as a child at her breast, should dwell in the divine tabernacles. It was fitting that the spouse, whom the Father had taken to himself, should live in the divine mansions. It was fitting that she, who had seen her Son upon the cross and who had thereby received into her heart the sword of sorrow which she had escaped in the act of giving birth to him, should look upon him as he sits with the Father. It was fitting that God's Mother should possess what belongs to her Son, and that she should be honored by every creature as the Mother and as the handmaid of God."'

The Assumption reminds me of the time when, please God, we will ascend to heaven ourselves. The big difference of course was that Mary did it physically. Just imagine what that must have been like. :):)

One thing about these Great Marian mysteries is that they are not just about Mary, but about ourselves. Where she goes,we follow. Such a joy and delight. We see echoes of the Assumption in so many of the saints, a foretaste of the Resurrection and Eternal Life. For instance in their incorrupt bodies. The wonderful sounds, smells and lights. The bilocation and miracles, the heavenly visitors.

It reminds me of the words of Jesus:

"I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God" John 20:17

    and St Paul:

"we are being transformed from one degree of glory unto the next into the image of Christ" is a reference to 2 Corinthians 3:18,

So we are, all of us who pray, being taken on great elevator to heaven being lifted higher and higher into the heavenly sky above us. :):)

It reminds me too of the great mystery of Enoch and Elijah being taken bodily into heaven, from which they are to return to our aid, even as the Mother of God, Mary does every day.

The Book of Genesis (5:24) mentions that Enoch "walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.

2 Kings 2:11. It states that he was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind, with a fiery chariot and horses separating him from his companion, Elisha.

May the Holy Spirit grant us new insights into the mystery of the Assumption this year round.

I often admire priests who have to preach homilies for these Feasts. It maybe hard especially if they are speaking from the heart rather than just from books. Fulton Sheen said that all he himself preached and wrote came from times on his knees during his daily one hour adoration.

When you hear a priest giving a homily you can pretty well tell right away the ones who preach from the heart and the ones who read from a book. But priests are so busy, it is hard not to feel sympathy.

Of all the joyful mysteries this is perhaps the one with no shadow at all of sadness. Bursting with joy. Entering heaven. What's not to like? May well all enter heaven ourselves one day.

I love Scott Hahn, he turns Scripture into music.

The Holy Spirit is like a beam of light that shines on different truths for us at different times of our lives. He is the Great Teacher.

Lately for myself He has been throwing light on the indwelling of Jesus in our hearts. That our hearts are the Tabernacles in which Jesus dwells. This reminds me of what Scott Hahn says of Mary as the New Ark of the Covenant. I suppose that may be said of each of us? That we are, all of us the New Ark of the Covenant. All our hearts the Holy of Holies in which God dwells?

Yes, Luke 1 is such an important chapter in understanding the honor to be given to Our Lady. Even the Greek word for "exclaimed" in Luke 1:42, which references Elizabeth's joy at Mary's arrival, is used only this once in the New Testament and only 5 times in the Old Testament. And in every one of those 5 times it refers to the joy surrounding the transporting of the Ark of the Covenant. If the Ark was so honored (but never worshiped), so Our Lady is rightly honored as the New Ark of the Covenant.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

  9. right Mario. The Old Testament is unveiled in the New Testament, and the New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament. Newly informed Protestants are amazed why they were not able to discover these passages...

I had forgotten that there were quite a few supernatural incidents when Pope Pius xiiproclaimed the Dogma.

    https://spiritdailyblog.com/apparitions/the-supernatural-and-the-assumption

'Signs in the sky seemed to bear him out. On this same day, the eighth anniversary of the consecration of the world to Mary’s Immaculate Heart, with the Fatima statue at the church of Casaletto, immediately behind the Vatican gardens, Pius took his usual walk in the gardens around four o’clock, strolling up to the esplanade of Lourdes, when it happened.

“At a certain moment,” he recalled, “having lifted my eyes above papers I had in my hand, I was struck by a phenomenon I had never seen before.

“The sun, which was fairly high, looked like a pale yellow opaque globe completely surrounded by a luminous halo, which nevertheless did not prevent me at all from staring attentively at the sun without the slightest discomfort. A very light cloud was before it.

“The opaque globe began moving outward, slowly turning over upon itself and going from left to right and vice versa.

“But within the globe very strong movements could be seen in all clarity and without interruption. The same phenomenon repeated itself on the following day, October 31,” the Pope wrote in a note to one of his cardinals.

On November 1, the actual day for definition of the new dogma, more than half a million pilgrims crowded St. Peter’s Square. As Sister M. Pascalina Lehnert recounted, “A deep blue sky extended above the cupola of St. Peter’s.

“Beside the sun one could also see the crescent of the moon, just above the cross of the cupola!'

I just discovered that today , the Feast of the Assumption , is a big Public Holiday in Spain. It is hard for me to get used to how Catholic a country Spain once was. Even in Ireland we never closed down for the Feast like this. It takes some getting used to. I would love to see a great Spanish Marian procession for the Feast. Many of them are so gorgeous. But as far as I know there are none round here, but I must keep my eyes open.

I went to Mass in the Carmelite church today. There was a young woman leading the hymns. She had such a beautiful voice. We've had a spell of hot weather and it was sweltering in the city today. I was surprised to see so many at 3 pm Mass. The church is huge and so well kept that it seems to sparkle. So many shrines and beautiful statues of Our Lady. A real treat although, sadly, no altar rails.

The Feast of the Assumption always reminds me that God's Will will be done. He created Adam and Eve to live forever{death came in by the devil} and His Will is accomplished in Jesus and Mary. Even though God Himself Had to come down and do it Himself {I myself will teach you- Isaiah 54:13}because man was incapable of lifting himself up and His Will is accomplished through Jesus and the Immaculate Conception-Mary, the new Adam and Eve.

Hello, this is the daily mass at Saint Joan in PA,
Father Moses has a wonderful voice and sang Ave Maria for us at the start of his homily. Starts at about 22:09 on the video. Sorry I am not skilled enough to clip his singing alone. We had a beautiful mass today.

Well the last Three Marian Dogma's are not too far away. But it will take a really Great Pope to pull this rabbit out of a hat. So I suppose we will not see this until the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart when the Church is Universally accepted.

I see ETWN places this as just one Dogma: I always took it to be three:

    https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/fifth-marian-dogma-5671

    THE FIFTH MARIAN DOGMA

    Mary: Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, Advocate

We are all privileged to be living during the climax of the universally designated "Age of Mary". International Marian Centres such as Lourdes, Fatima and places of contemporary apparition, as well as numerous other contemporary Marian movements manifest the present climax of love and devotion to the Mother of Jesus throughout the world.

But along with a climax in devotion to Our Lady, this Age of Mary is also crucially calling for a climax in the doctrine about Mary. For authentic love of Mary must be firmly based upon the authentic truth about Mary.

Up to the present time in the history of the church, four Marian doctrines have been defined as central Catholic truths by the Church: the Motherhood of God, the Immaculate Conception, the Perpetual Virginity of Mary, and her Glorious Assumption into heaven. It is now time for the church, at the summit of this Marian era, to proclaim and define the fifth and final Marian doctrine, that is, Mary's universal mediation as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of all grace, and advocate for the people of God.

When the Church invokes Mary under the title, "Coredemptrix", she means that Mary uniquely participated in the redemption of the human family by Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour. At the Annunciation (cf.Lk.1:38) Mary freely cooperated in giving the Second Person of the Trinity his human body which is the very instrument of redemption, as Scripture tells us: "We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all" (Heb.10:10).

And at the foot of the cross of our Saviour (Jn.19:26), Mary's intense sufferings, united with those of her Son, as Pope John Paul II tells us, were, "also a contribution to the Redemption of us all" (Salvifici Doloris, n.25). Because of this intimate sharing in the redemption accomplished by the Lord, the Mother of the Redeemer is uniquely and rightly referred to by Pope John Paul II and the Church as the "Coredemptrix."

It is important to note that the prefix "co" in the title Coredemptrix does not mean "equal to" but rather "with", coming from the Latin word cum. The Marian title Coredemptrix never places Mary on a level of equality with her Divine Son, Jesus Christ. Rather it refers to Mary's unique human participation which is completely secondary and subordinate to the redeeming role of Jesus, who alone is true God and true Man.

Secondly, Mary is invoked in the Church under the title Mediatrix of all grace. All the graces which flow from the redemption of Jesus Christ are granted to the human family through the motherly intercession of Mary. Mary mediated Jesus Christ, the Author of all graces, to the world when she agreed to be the human mother of God made man (cf. Lk 1:38). And from the cross at Calvary (Jn 19:26) and as the final gift to humanity, Jesus gives Mary as a spiritual mother to us all: "Son, behold your mother" (cf. Jn 19:26). For this reason, Vatican II refers to Mary as a "mother to us in the order of grace " (Lumen Gentium, n. 62) and several twentieth century popes have officially taught the doctrine of Mary as Mediatrix of all graces, quoting the words of St Bernard: "It is the will of God that we obtain all favours through Mary." The Mediatrix performs this task in intimate union with the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier, with whom she began the drama of our Lord's Redemption at the Annunciation (cf. Lk. 1:35).

Thirdly, Mary is our Advocate for people of God, in that she takes the petitions of her earthly children, especially in times of difficulties, and brings them through her maternal intercession before her Son and our Lord Jesus.

In the Old Testament, the Queen Mother brought the petitioned needs of the people of Israel to the throne of her son the king (cf. 1 Kings 2:19). Now Mary is the new Queen Mother and Advocate in the new Kingdom of her Son, who brings the petitioned needs of the people of God to the throne of her glorious Son, Christ the King, particularly in our present difficult times.

The universal mediation of the Mother of Jesus as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of all graces, and Advocate for the people of God is already contained in the official and authoritative teachings of the Church's Magisterium. Now, at the summit of the Marian era, what remains is the final proclamation by the Church of this final Marian doctrine as Christian dogma revealed by God.

Dr. Mark Miravalle, Associate Professor of Theology and Mariology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, has written the book, Mary: Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, Advocate. This work theologically expounds these roles of Mary in Scripture, Apostolic Tradition, and the teachings of the Church's Magisterium, and humbly calls for our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, to proclaim and define the universal mediation of Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate as "Christian dogma revealed by God, in rightful veneration of the Mother of Jesus, and for the good of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church of Christ". Cardinal Luigi Ciappi, O.P., who served as Papal Theologian for every pope from Pius XII to John Paul II, has written the foreword in strong endorsement of this work, and himself asserts, quoting the call for papal definition of Mary, Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate, "I share the hope of Dr. Mark Miravalle". Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici (Voice of the People for Mary Mediatrix) is an international lay organization that seeks to work for the papal definition of our Lady as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate by gathering petitions from the faithful throughout the world in humble support of our Holy Father for this final Marian dogma. Vox Populi is distributing Professor Miravalle's work throughout the world in nine languages, and has already received 2.5 million petitions from more than 132 countries worldwide. Vox Populi has also received the endorsements of 36 Cardinals and over 130 Bishops worldwide from the Universal Church. The two previous popes who defined Marian Dogma, Pius IX and Pius XII, both referred to the international petitions of the faithful as one of the criteria that led to the final acts of papally defining the Marian dogmas of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption.
