The “life of the mother” and/ or the “mental health of the mother” exceptions are deliberately used by the pro abortion crowd because one can drive a tractor trailer through the door opened by those exceptions. As non sum dignus accurately posted above, there are NO circumstances where an sbortion is a medically superior option for the life or mental health of a pregnant mother. As a doctor myself I have researched this question extensively and spoken with experts. Even in cases of rape or incest, every study done to date proves far superior mental health outcomes among those mothers who brought the resultant pregnancy to term, whether they ultimately kept their child or chose adoption. There are no cases whatsoever where abortion is justified medically or by mental health outcomes.

You say that you'd rather not get into an argument about the SSPX, yet you keep posting statements about the SSPX. I think they are misleading and some are bordering on libel. Thus, dreadfully, I feel obliged to respond. Not quite. The truth is, the Vicar of Christ must align his teachings with Catholic tradition, otherwise he should be corrected. In fact, such corrections and dubia were issued to Pope Francis by members of the Church's hierarchy in relation to wrong teachings. It would be a mistake to follow the Vicar of Christ even where he is in error. If you did this, you would waver back and forth between tradition and modernism. For example, following Pope Paul VI, the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) was largely abolished (against the explicit instructions by Pope Pius V in Quo Primum), then Pope Benedict reinforced the TLM in 2007 with Summorum Pontificum, then Pope Francis tried to curb the TLM again in 2021, now Pope Leo XIV seems to be reinforcing the TLM again, evident by the fact that it can again be celebrated in St. Peter's basilica in Rome. True tradition means to adhere to the TLM and the traditional Catholic faith, not to waver back and forth. Holy Mass was instituted by Christ, on Maundy Thursday, and passed down to us via tradition. The TLM is based on the apostles' Mass. It is the role of the Pope to preserve the Mass, and this is the reason why any changes would have to be approved by the Pope. But any such changes must be in line with holy tradition and must not change the Holy Mass substantially. I don't know why you keep going on about the status of the SSPX. It was founded by Catholic Archbishop Lefebvre in good standing with the Catholic Church, with the explicit approval of the Pope. The purpose of the SSPX has always been to preserve the TLM and the traditional Catholic faith. When Abp. Lefebvre reached old age, he sought approval from the Vatican to consecrate Bishops so that the SSPX could continue. By that time, the heresy of modernism had largely infiltrated the Vatican, and the consecrations were stalled by the Vatican. As I recall, Pope St John Paul II stated regarding the modernist infiltration: "My power ends behind my office door." The SSPX saw this as a state of emergency and consecrated four Bishops under supplied jurisdiction, without explicit approval by the Vatican, as I understand. As a consequence, statements of excommunication against Abp. Lefebvre and the four Bishops were issued. These excommunications were later revoked by Pope Benedict XVI, so there is no doubt that the SSPX is Catholic. I know that many people in the hierarchy dispute this, for no good reason, but you have to remember that the Vatican has been infiltrated by modernism (there is a book "Infiltration" by Dr. Taylor Marshall). For example, you can see that many, including Cardinals, are trying to slowly change the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church. We are better off following true Cardinals and Bishops, such as Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider, who adhere to tradition and support the SSPX. It would be wrong to go along with the modernists' errors, despite their elevated status in the church. Remember the prophecy of Akita: "Cardinals against Cardinals and Bishops against Bishops...". You say that the SSPX think it is okay to skip Sunday Mass. Please provide a source, I think this may be bordering on libel! As I understand, the SSPX encourage the faithful to attend a TLM (SSPX or not) when away from their hometown. This is different from your claim. Also, you are insinuating that Pope Benedict XVI was "pressurised" to revoke the excommunications of the SSPX-Bishops. Again, this seems to be libellous, and grotesque, too. In fact, after he revoked the excommunications, Pope Benedict received much flak, especially from his German countrymen. You yourself implied in an earlier post that the SSPX does not have much influence in the Vatican - so why are you now claiming that Pope Benedict was "pressurised" by the SSPX? I am happy to discuss the SSPX, in good faith, with charity, based on facts, and with substance. But please do not post claims that border on libel about a Catholic organisation. We can judge a thing by its fruits. The infestation of the Holy Catholic Church by the heresy of modernism (to an extend only comparable to the crisis of Arianism) has led to a widespread loss of faith, ageing parishes, and shameful practices in the Church. In contrast, the SSPX has been acting in good faith and heroically, despite onslaughts, preserving traditional Catholicism. The SSPX has a growing number of priests and religious, thriving parishes that keep the faith, many young families with lots of kids. We also have charitable, joyful gatherings that reach out to the community, with self-sacrifice and love. For example, we have the Legion of Mary and the Militia Immacalutae. I don't know where you got the idea that I keep going on about the SSPX. I rarely post about the SSPX. In fact, I only mentioned them in this thread because someone (possibly you?) had posted a very nice video of their pilgrimage to Rome which for me was a good sign and my youtube feed had a video from John Henry Westen criticising the fact that their pilgrimage had been removed (after the event) from some schedule published by the Vatican and replaced by an upcoming pilgrimage from some LBGTQ crowd. That LBGTQ organisation's leaders had also been excommunicated but, like the SSPX, were waiting out their excommunication pending the election of a Pope more to their liking. That's two organisations whose leaders were excommunicated, both of which chose to wait out their excommunication. I merely pointed out that fact. I would like all baptised Catholics fully reconciled with the Church irrespective of what they call themselves and irrespective of what is their beef with the Vicar of Christ. I have already provided to you a video where a person described as an SSPX spokesman prevaricated about SSPX members attending even a non-SSPX TLM to fulfil their Sunday obligation. What are they encouraged to do if they are in a town where there is no TLM (SSPX or not) available but Mass in the Ordinary Form is available? The TLM isn't an exact replica of the Mass celebrated by the Apostles. In fact, Pope Pius X11, wasn't happy with people who wanted to return to what he called table altars. Table altars are what most churches have now, yet it's clear from the Pope's words that they pre-date the pre-Vatican 11 high altars. I was taught before Vatican 11 that for a Mass to be valid it required: an authorised priest, valid matter, the offertory, the consecration and the priest's Communion. What's in our hearts is all important for us laypersons. I remember days when the TLM was the only Mass. I remember the 15 minute Masses where, for all anyone knew the priest could have been mumbling anything. At least now we know whether the correct words of consecration are used. I'm well aware of the origins of the SSPX. I'm also aware that when the founder died while excommunicated. He wasn't excommunicated for his love of the TLM. He was excommunicated for raising four men to the Episcopate while in discussions with the Holy See about the choice of one person to be consecrated Bishop. One of the four men he consecrated has already split from the SSPX because apparently they aren't traditional enough for him. Pope John Paul 11 was no modernist. All the bells and smells in the world can't cover the bad fruit of divisiveness and disobedience. The fact is, Michael, that if there were no extant questions about the status of the SSPX, they wouldn't need to be having negotiations with the Holy See. I do find it strange that Catholics (I don't mean you) who question the authority of Pope Francis have no problem accepting his authority when it comes to advancing reconciliation with the SSPX. My question to them is this: Was he a valid Pope when giving the ok to SSPX sacraments but a self-deposed Pope when authorising blessings for homosexual couples? On second thoughts, I don't think I want to know the answer to that question. Enough of these arguments among Catholics trying their best to be faithful. I think it may mean that perhaps the Vatican has been hijacked by the 'system', and they want to change the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church. The approach that Pope Leo is taking is less rogue and more careful than that of his predecessor, but perhaps the agenda remains the same.
