I am happy and think this is a good thing... praying rather than finger pointing! hoping to see soon when our diocese or parish plans it. But, I am sure anyone can do our own private holy hour as well. https://aleteia.org/2026/01/28/us-b...ily-&utm_content=Newsletter&utm_term=20260129
I came across this thread, due to the bit of controversy. My initial reaction was to think of the 'Holy Hour' tradition in Ireland, which is about public houses providing drink at half-price for that period! On a more serious note, while a 'Holy Hour for Peace' is intrinsically highly commendable, these bishops should thread very warily when dipping their toe into politics and their statements seem selective to me. This seems very topical given the (justified in my reading of it) rebuke recently given by a well-informed, devout lay-Catholic US official to Pope Leo, following the latter's inappropriate intervention in this prudential matter. Immigration is a complex, many-sided issue. The bishops should not be rowing in.
I look forward to online Holy Hours. It's all I can do right now but I know God understands. We must do what we can.
We've had a Holy Hour with Exposition in our church for a few years now. It has produced many, many fruits for our church community, such as an increase in young families with children starting to attend, adult conversions, even additional weekday Masses being added. The community has increased in vibrancy greatly, which many attribute to the regular Adoration of Our Blessed Lord during the weekly Holy Hour. I would advise anyone who wants to inject energy and life into one's parish to adopt this practice. Ours was on Thursday but we swapped it last year to Tuesday nights, so we could add in the Holy Face devotion which typically is practiced on Tuesdays, so i believe. People who work full time particularly get a great deal from these Holy Hours, during their busy week, too.
