I agree. And I think maybe this is abd always gas been crux of the issue. I think the apostles and early believers in Christ saw themselves first as Hebrews — the people descended from Abraham who God made a sacred covenant with. He not only fulfilled it but expanded this covenant in Jesus Christ as the restored Israel ( not meaning a political state but a people) through the Messiah. I understand that at time if apostles a ‘Jew’ was more a term for people from the southern kingdom of Judah (Judeans) who cane back after the Babylonian Exile. The northern kingdom had been conquered earlier and these tribes were essentially gone. Jesus came to restore both kingdoms and the gentiles into that covenant originally established with the Hebrew Patriarchs and Israel (again not the modern country). So in that sense i see these " Jews for Jesus" like early Christians. They saw themselves as the promise of God to Israel being fulfilled in Jesus Christ. I believe they see the modern State of Israel as a political nation-state that shares the ancient name but is not the same entity as biblical Israel.

 

This is quite a paradox and an irony of the term “Judeo-Christian values,” and also somewhat interesting if we play with the terminology, its deeper meaning, and symbolism.

After the fall of the Kingdom of Israel, the tribes of Judah and Benjamin were the only ones not taken into captivity. Since Judah was the larger tribe, everything gradually became assimilated under it after the return from exile, which is where the name Judea comes from and name Jews. The name itself means “praised” and primarily refers to God—that is, to praising God.

However, as we know, Judas( meaning Jew) Iscariot betrayed Jesus, and in Western Christian civilization the name has taken on the meaning of betrayal; in our context, a traitor is often called a “Judas.” If we now look at the name, by its original meaning it should point to “praise Christ,” yet it is somewhat ironic that it has come to represent something entirely different. As the narrative goes, betrayal replaced praise, and what was once directed toward God became redirected elsewhere, even toward oneself—giving rise to a culture of dominance and superiority, where people consider themselves more valuable than others what we have today with Jews.

God teaches humility, sacrifice, and love; here, instead, we see pride, superiority, and hatred. The word that once referred to praise now signifies betrayal and no longer points to God, just as a people who no longer follow God turn instead toward self-love and power. No matter how much one tries to solidify such terminology, the truth always comes to light, because at the core of that ideology lie opposing motives.

Until the time of Christ, they pointed to God; since then, they have sought to betray Him or attack Him, which fits precisely the context of Judas Iscariot, who became a symbol of the majority people.
If one follows Christ, then that first aspect becomes completely irrelevant. In fact, none of us views the first apostles from a cultural perspective of Jews what they were; many Western countries even have them as patrons, figures found on historical and traditional coats of arms, yet they are rooted as part of a Christian—that is, Christ-centered identity.

Christ would say: you cannot serve both God and wealth—indeed, you cannot serve both God and people. You must deny yourselves in order to follow me. It is interesting that even the apostles held similar views, although they had followed Christ for years. The mother of John and James approached Christ with the same intention—that when He would rule the land of Israel, her sons might sit at His right and left in positions of power. But then Jesus corrects them and says that whoever wants to be great must be a servant, and whoever wants to be first must be last, just as the Son of Man came to serve…

They only grasped the message after the Resurrection and when they received the Holy Spirit; except for John—he alone understood Jesus, because he alone loved God with a pure heart.

I’ve only just realized that after World War II, in mainstream culture, the word for traitor ‘Judas’ was largely replaced by ‘Quisling,’ who betrayed Norway to Hitler… That’s what propaganda machinery can do, even though in Christian civilization the word had meant traitor for 2,000 years.”

 

Christ was always emphatic that His Kingdom was ‘not of this world’ and He made it clear to the Pharisees that the descendants of Abraham were not a racial or national category. His parable about The Good Samaritan is at least partially about one’s neighbour being defined by his actions, not by his identity. (The Samaritans were the Gazans of that day, as far as the Jews were concerned).

I agree that Christ’s Kingdom is not worldly in the sense it comes from political power or privilege. But that doesn’t mean the Kingdom is only in heaven. As Christians we also believe the Kingdom is the Church itself - being the Church Triumphant and the Church Militant including our present time. As Jesus said we all can have this kingdom in our own hearts!

 

I was more thinking about the supremacist Jews of today whose ideology is distinctly worldly.

In Ireland I would have to pay at least ten times as much for my road tax as I do in Spain. For the exact same thing. It is all a huge swindle.

Yet our government takes around 40% of our money in tax.

I have never heard a priest say this before but I agree. High taxes are equivalent to state theft.

 

Oil/Fuel price hikes work identically to raising taxes, because it raises the cost of goods and services at every level of production.

Hence the attacks on refineries, oil production sites and transportation lines.

 

I would go further , I would say any Tax that is not entirely voluntary is theft. Especially any kind of Federal Tax. God told the Hebrews all about this when they wanted a King.

Israel Asks for a King
8 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders.[a] 2 The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. 3 But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

6 But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. 7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”

10 Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your male and female servants and the best of your cattle[c] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

Then Samuel said to the Israelites, “Everyone go back to your own town.”
