  1. This prayer to Saint Dymphna, printed below, succinctly identifies her as the well-known patron saint of those with mental or nervous disorders or mental illness.

Good Saint Dymphna, great wonder-worker in every affliction of mind and body, I humbly implore your powerful intercession with Jesus through Mary, the Health of the Sick, in my present need. (Mention it.) Saint Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to Them for me and obtain my request.

(Pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary and one Glory Be.)

Saint Dymphna, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us.

From Catholic News Agency Fb page:

"On the Feast of St. Dymphna, patroness of those suffering from nervous and mental afflictions, Catholic mental health organizations are launching new initiatives focused on psychological and spiritual healing.

The Catholic Psychotherapy Association (CPA) is encouraging its members worldwide to request a diocesan-wide Mass intention this weekend (May 15–17) for individuals struggling with mental illness and for the mental health professionals who serve them.

Dr. Terry Braciszewski, CPA president-elect, told EWTN News that during May — observed by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops as Mental Health Awareness Month — he hopes to “bring hope to those afflicted with mental illnesses and awareness to the wonderful Catholic professionals that can help them.”

Braciszewski noted the growing number of Catholics experiencing mental health challenges and their increased vulnerability to spiritual attacks. Quoting the St. Michael prayer, he acknowledged that “the evil one is prowling about the world seeking the ruin of souls,” but added, “there’s hope.”

  4. I have prayed to this beautiful Saint since I was a child. My brothers had severe ptsd from Vietnam. Little did I know that I would need her so in my family as I got older and for myself.
    Thank you St Dymphna!!

Today there are an enormous number of mental disorders; unfortunately, many ideologies portray them as normal in order to degrade society. However, from depression, OCD, and anxiety onward, we live surrounded by a fast-paced lifestyle, in concrete cities, with toxic food that poisons us and polluted air. There is a great deal of stress, and we are isolated from nature, where people lived for thousands of years. We are isolated from family life and turned into individuals without a sense of community, consumers without a sense of values, and finally isolated from God and the meaning of existence, reduced merely to entertainment and hedonism, where we constantly need stimulation in order to be happy.

Each of those moments of depression, anxiety, and pain can be offered to God as a sacrifice united with Christ’s Passion. In that way, you may help a soul, and God will reward every sacrifice and suffering, perhaps even in this world, and certainly in the heavenly one.
