St Alphonsa Miracle boy' : Ginil had clubfoot, but began walking after a '99 visit to Alphonsa's tomb. It was the "miraculous" cure of Ginil Joseph, a young boy suffering from clubfoot-a congenital condition in which the foot is turned inward-that's being cited for granting her sainthood. Dr Aleyamma Korah of the Vimala Hospital, Kottayam, was among those interviewed by the Church tribunal in the prelude to the canonisation. She testified that a clubfoot doesn't get corrected naturally. It can be rectified only through surgery. "This child was brought to us completely cured when he was two years old. The parents say they put the child on the tomb of Sister Alphonsamma at Bharananganam and it all happened after that," she says. Ginil's father, Shaji Jospeh, a sales tax official, recalls it was on May 11, 1999, a Saturday, when the miracle happened. "We returned from the tomb and while we were at the evening prayers, reciting the rosary, Ginil gently stood up, firmly on his feet. It was so unlike him. Earlier, his limbs used to droop almost lifeless. If this is not a miracle, what do you call it?" he says. https://www.facebook.com/reel/648497960917344/?mibextid=rS40aB7S 9Ucbxw6v
Kerala In recent times four additional similar miraculous cures have been approved by the Vatican. Historic cases at Lourdes: 4 Lipa Philippines 1 Any where else documented cases? Personal experiences? Please let me know Thank you
Another St Alphonsa miracle The miracle boy Abraham—formally known as Thomas Abraham Athialil—was miraculously healed from severe, congenital clubbed feet in January 1947. His healing was meticulously investigated and ultimately approved by the Vatican as the official miracle that led to the beatification of Saint Alphonsa. The Background of the Miracle The Condition: Thomas Abraham was a 10-year-old boy born with deep-seated, congenital deformities in both legs (classified as equinus, varus, adduction, and supination). The Intercession: His family and local Catholics prayed fervently to Sister Alphonsa (who passed away in July 1946), asking for her intercession to heal his twisted limbs. The Event: On the night between January 29 and 30, 1947, Thomas experienced a sudden, complete, and lasting healing. His twisted feet straightened entirely, and he was able to walk normally.
Miracle through the intercession of Mother Miriam Thresia Chiramel (1876 - 1926, Kerala, India). "The investigation of the miracle required for beatification was held in the Trissur eparchy from 28 April 1992 to 26 July 1993 and was validated on 22 January 1999 before receiving the approval of the medical board on 16 November 1999. Theologians then voiced their own approval on 5 January 2000 . The miracle was that of the cure of one Mathew D. Pellissery, who was born in 1956 with congenital club feet. He could barely walk with great difficulty on the sides of his feet until he was fourteen. After 33 days of fasting and prayer by the whole family, invoking the help of Mariam Thresia, his right foot was straightened during sleep on the night of 21 August 1970. Similarly after 39 days of fasting and prayer his left foot was also straightened overnight during sleep on 28 August 1971. Since then, Mathew has been able to walk normally. This double healing was declared inexplicable in terms of medical science by as many as nine doctors in India and Italy and thus met the last canonical requirement for her beatification. It was declared a miracle obtained through the intercession of Mariam Thresia by the C.C.S. on 18 January 2000 before the Pope himself issued final approval on it on 27 January 2000. John Paul II beatified Mariam Thresia on 9 April 2000 in Saint Peter's Square. Mathew Pellissery was present there during the beatification ceremony at St. Peter's Square." She is now Saint Mariam Thresia having been Canonised by Pope Francis on October 13th, 2019.
The Miracle Approved in Rome After the elevation of Fr. Chavara to the position of Venerable, the cure of the congenial deformity of the legs of Mr. Joseph Mathew Pennaparambil happened in the month of April, 1960 was approved in Rome as a miracle. Joseph was born club-footed with congenial deformity of both the legs from his very birth itself. Joseph's family was pious but poor. Though his legs were deformed Joseph started going to school. He was always accompanied by his elder sister. It was when Joseph was seven years old that his family for the first time heard about Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara and the many favours received through his intercession. From that time onwards the whole family started praying for the healing of the deformity of Joseph's legs through the intercession of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara with great devotion and faith. They experienced nothing special during this period, however, they continued to pray with faith. After almost a month, one day Joseph and his sister were going to school. As usual with the school going children in the pious families of the villages of Kerala, Joseph's sister told him to pray to Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara for the cure of his legs and asked him to recite 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and 1 Glory. As they both prayed and walked together, all of a sudden Joseph felt that his right leg started shivering. When Joseph pressed his right leg on the ground and tried to walk further his right leg became normal. He continued to have pain for a few days whenever he was walking, and later that pain also subsided. This healing of one leg gave the family great joy and hope. The whole family started to pray with greater fervour and devotion for the healing of the deformity of the left leg also. They continued their prayer and petitions for quite some time. On the fine morning of April 30th, 1960 Joseph had started experiencing pain on his left foot. However, discarding the pain Joseph and his sister went to their elder brother's house. On their way, the fingers of the left foot became normal and gradually his leg also became normal. Thereafter he could walk normally pressing both the legs on the ground. Joseph believes that it was because of the intercession of Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara that he could walk normally. Joseph was 31 when this miraculous cure was considered in Rome for the canonization process in 1984.
Third clubfoot miracle via intercession St Alphonsa Bishop Sebastian reported: About ten years ago, when I was in a small village in Wayanad outside Manatavady, I saw a boy walking with some difficulty, using a stick. As he approached me I noted that both of his feet were turned upside down. I had a stack of holy cards in my pocket with Alphonsa's picture on them, so I pulled one of them out and gave it to the boy. When I told the boy that he should pray to this woman for the cure of his feet, the boy-he was quite smart for a ten-year-old boy-replied, "But I'm a Muslim, and, besides, I was born this way." I replied that God is very powerful, so let's pray. A few months later, a boy and a gentleman appeared at the house here. I didn't recognize them at first but soon learned that it was the Muslim boy with his father, here to tell me that his feet had been cured through their prayers to Sister Alphonsa. They showed me the calluses on the tops of his feet, and you could see the marks which had been made from the years of his walking with his feet turned under
Yvonne Aumaître, the daughter of a doctor (Dr. Aumaître from Nantes). She suffered from clubfoot (pied bot). Previous treatments: The foot had already been surgically treated, but the procedure was unsuccessful. Time of healing: Yvonne was a toddler of 21 months old at the time of her healing. Nature of healing: The healing is described as sudden and complete after the child was immersed in or came into contact with the waters of Lourdes. Although her case is extensively documented in the literature on the "great healings of Lourdes" (Les grandes guérisons de Lourdes) and historically attested by glass positives (projection images), it is one of the thousands of healings that, while documented as "remarkable" or "inexplicable," are not necessarily among the 72 officially recognized miracles of the Catholic Church.
Below is a case which has been passed on to the present Commission by a previous Commission way back in the 1990s. It was originally in the form of an Affidavit, testimonies under oath, before legal authorities – all the more to emphasize the veracity of the cure, the truthfulness of the witnesses and the rigorous documentation required by the Church. We have given the Affidavits a narrative format and have left the wording practically intact, although shortening it to fit space available. I am Sr. Melania Ma. Sunga of the Religious of the Assumption. I was born on 31 December 1941 in Candon, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. I am the niece of Bishop Edmundo Abaya of Ilocos Sur. He is my mother’s cousin. Being a blood relative, Bishop Abaya took care of my mother Rosario Abaya-Sunga when the latter became an orphan at a very early age. I was born with a club foot. Because of this handicap, I could never walk without limping and wear shoes or slippers until I was miraculously cured in 1949. Even while an infant, my parents consulted a family doctor as regards the possibility of an operation to straighten my foot. However the doctor advised them that I was too small and too weak to undergo any surgery. He further advised them that despite the operation, there would be no assurance or certainty that I could walk normally. The doctor’s advice brought so much sadness to the family. My parents took it to mean that I would never be able to live a normal life when I grow up. Bishop Abaya was not spared this distressing news. Mary Mediatrix Intervenes Sometime in 1949, when I was eight years old, Bishop Abaya, then studying at the seminary of the University of Santo Tomas, went on a pilgrimage to the Lipa Carmel Convent together with the Rector and fellow seminarians. During the said pilgrimage, Bishop Abaya remembered me and my pitiful condition and asked the Carmel Sisters for a bottle of water previously placed overnight in front of the statue of Our Lady of Lipa - Mary Mediatrix of All Grace. The Sisters obliged and, in addition, gave him the Tagalog version of the novena to Our Lady, Mary Mediatrix of All Grace. Bishop Abaya gave the bottle of water and the Tagalog novena to my mother when he paid us a visit in Candon, Ilocos Sur. For nine consecutive days, my mother prayed the novena and in the evening before sleeping, she would rub some water from the bottle on my club foot. In the morning of the ninth day of my mother’s novena, my father Graciano Sunga and my brother Abelardo were very surprised to see me walk without the usual limp. I also noticed that I could walk straight… My eyes then went to my club foot. A normal foot was in place. My defect or handicap was suddenly gone… As far as my family and Bishop Abaya were concerned, there was no doubt that I was miraculously cured of my defect
