My new nickname for the world is Crazy Town - from the local, national and international - Crazy Town. In my wee sleepy village in the last number of years we've had a car hijacking, aggravated burglaries, drugs busts, and a house burning - Crazy Town. A few days ago a Sudanese nutter tried to behead a man in the streets of Belfast (20 miles from me) leaving him mutilated and blind (he was already deaf), and this was followed by rampant rioting, bus burnings, house burnings, ethnic cleansing, millions of pounds of damage - Crazy Town. The wars continue around the world unabatred, Gaza, Ukraine, Iran - Crazy Town. So, now when I look out my window no matter where I am - I think 'Crazy Town'.
At least Padraig you can look out your window in Spain in peace as it is not yet Crazy Town where you live.
So long as there is peace in our hearts it does not matter so much what goes on elsewhere. But since I got here I only realise what peace and security really mean. I leave my front door regulary and can even leave my car unlocked. I can walk anywhere at any hour of the day or not with not even a trace of concern, even in the nearby town. It is dead quiet all night, not a sound. When I meet people they always seem to have a smile. It is only here I realise that back home there was always this unconscious or conscious guardedness. Here there is only peace and safety. A wonderful place to be. Here's a nice song , from a nice Muslim man.
on a hot but beautiful Friday afternoon here in NY, you got me thinking of songs about peace. I love this version of People Get Ready. Peace!
