"In 1981, in the small village of Kibeho, Rwanda, the Virgin Mary began appearing to three young schoolgirls — Alphonsine Mumureke, Anathalie Mukamazimpaka, and Marie Claire Mukangango — under the title “Mother of the Word” (Nyina wa Jambo). For several years, Our Lady delivered urgent messages calling for repentance, prayer, and conversion of hearts. She warned that Rwanda was on a dangerous path and that great suffering would come if the people did not turn back to God. On August 19, 1982, the visionaries were shown a horrifying prophetic vision: rivers flowing with blood, people slaughtering one another with machetes, mountains of corpses left unburied, and immense grief across the land. The girls wept uncontrollably as they described the scenes. These apparitions were a clear heavenly warning — years before the tragedy unfolded. Unfortunately, Rwanda did not fully heed this urgent call to repentance and conversion. As a result, the prophesied suffering came to pass. In 1994, the Rwandan Genocide erupted. In just 100 days, over 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu were brutally murdered. The visions seen in Kibeho had come to pass with terrifying accuracy. Had the nation converted as Our Lady pleaded, many lives — including countless Christians — could have been spared. ——————— Our Lady of Kibeho stands as the only Vatican-approved Marian apparition site in Africa, officially recognized by the local bishop in 2001. Her message remains powerful today: “Pray the Rosary daily. Repent. Change your hearts while there is still time. Do not wait until it is too late.” Even in the midst of the genocide, survivors like Immaculée Ilibagiza found strength through prayer in hiding, later forgiving those who killed her family — a living fruit of the call to conversion. In our own troubled times, Our Lady of Kibeho continues to call humanity back to God: “Repent and convert while there is still time.” — Our Lady of Kibeho
"During the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, nearly one million lives were lost in just 100 days. In the midst of this unimaginable horror, 22-year-old Immaculée Ilibagiza and seven other women survived 91 days crammed into a tiny 3x4-foot bathroom at a Hutu pastor’s home. Killers with machetes searched the house repeatedly, shouting for blood, while the women stood in shifts, barely able to breathe or move. Before sending her into hiding, Immaculée’s father gave her his rosary beads—the last gift she would receive from him. As anger, fear, and despair threatened to consume her, she turned to the rosary. She prayed it relentlessly, sometimes for hours on end, meditating on each mystery. The repetitive prayers drowned out the screams outside and the rage building inside her. “I prayed the rosary like my life depended on it — because it did,” she later shared. The rosary became her anchor, bringing her a profound peace even as she lost nearly everything. She emerged weighing only 65 pounds, but spiritually transformed. Through the meditative power of the rosary, she found the strength not only to survive but to forgive the men who murdered her parents and brothers. -------------- Her powerful testimony, detailed in Left to Tell and The Rosary: The Prayer That Saved My Life, shows how this ancient prayer can bring light into total darkness, calm the storm within, and open the door to radical forgiveness. In our own challenging times, Immaculée’s story is a powerful reminder: the humble rosary is a weapon of peace, hope, and grace."
If some liberal politician had successfully made such an accurate forecast of upcoming events, he or she would be lauded as one of the great statesmen of the time and be a celebrity, as well. Yet, this awesome event is practically unknown. At least in the ‘more sophisticated’ West. It might be better known in Africa-the Faith is spreading at an extraordinary rate there. Our Lady of Kibeho, pray for us.
Immaculaee is a very impressive witness to the events in Rwanda. She wrote a book " Left to Tell" and she goes around the world telling her story and begging people to be reconciled to God and to each other.
As I have shared previously I literally bumped into Imaculee last year on my final evening in Medjugorje. I felt it was a confirmation for me on my taking up the Seven Sorrows Rosary. Our Lady requested this ancient rosary in Kibheo. I spoke with her about that devotion and also requested her prayers for a difficult family problem which was resolved by the time I got home. She is a really beautiful soul and I was so privileged to meet her. I have found the Seven Sorrows Rosary to be very powerful. I pray it every day now
Today at Mass ( very crowded) when it came time for communion the Lay Eucharistic Ministets went to their stations and Father went to farthest post in the Church. I got up immediately ( as is my custom) and went to get in that line. Coming back i saw lo and behold some various people from all the different sections were lined up in a long line to receive from Father. Old young middle age teens and little ones. All traveling to the far side of the Church to receive Jesus from the anointed hands of the priest. On the tongue. I heard an inner voice " you are looking at the Remnant". It was very powerful. It used to be only a few who would do that--me among them. And now a long long line. Deo gratias.
