You know, Padraig, the word, deacon, translates servant. It's interesting that my middle name bequeathed to me by my parents is, Stephen, who was a deacon and the first martyr of the Church. Today, I attended my first daily Mass in over three months. Afterwards, I helped Father as in months past by replacing altar candles, putting away cruets, and even vacuumed the sacristy that appeared to have not been tidied up for some time. Perhaps the sacristan is on vacation? Anyway, no one noticed, and so it should be. I even stopped at the local grocery store and spent some time observing Geralyn who was involved in one of her 3 5-hr. shifts. Today she did not notice me and I did not disturb her rhythm. Now I can expand my activities; tonight, I will close a 6hr. period of Adoration with Benediction and by spending the final hour with our Eucharistic Lord. Home visitations and preaching the next 2 weekends will reincarnate my normal schedule. My conclusion: the world doesn't revolve around me. I'm a dispensable servant, but God's servant none the less.
Well, I must admit she's got a sword in her hand. I hope as of right now, she's not pointing it at me!
Just a little update I'm so excited, when I was in Therese's garden I brought some seeds home with me, I planted them a few weeks ago and one seed has sprouted into a very healthy strong plant. haven't a clue what its gonna be but I'm so thrilled lol knowing my little sister its probably a weed but I don't care I'm gonna love it
Lol its getting exciting now we have a bud lol I feel like a child at Christmas ok lets guess a colour of the flower im going for either pink or yellow if its blue I'll faint (explanation later)
woo hoo we have a flower and its yellow... Its a pot Marigold (Marys Gold) Its edible and has many curing abilities but most of all it means the world to me especially since Therese picked it quote from Therese herself below. ( I'm getting emotional now ) "He wanted to create the great saints, who can be compared to lilies and roses; but He also created the lesser ones, and these must be content to be marigolds or violets, destined to delight the eyes of the Good Lord when He places them at His feet." Therese is most commonly called the "Little Flower" because she viewed herself as a simple, hidden wildflower giving glory to God, rather than an elaborate garden bloom.
Just catching up to this John. Lol before seeing your latest post, I was still on the bud stage and was thinking white and yellow. So 1/2 right. I love the quote you gave from St. Therese! Im glad you did not have to faint! Can you share why blue would have done that to you?
Marigolds are beautiful, I would settle for being a Marigold, although I think Forget me nots are lovely. I forget thee not Lord, forget not thee me.
Well as I was typing Miker padraig quoted the above which has stunned me Ill explain better.. My beautiful cousin Martin died a couple of years ago he was such a wonderful in fact saintly man who worked hard looking after and teaching disabled children he died suddenly at a young age of 60 a week after he retired. it was during his wake I learned that he loved singing especially at his own bbq's and his favourite song was Bright Blue Rose sang by christy moore his story struck me as i like to do the same but I never heard that song. I listened to that night and was in tears although the song starts a bit weird its meaning is profound and a bit like the poem I saw his blood upon the rose by Joseph Mary Plunkett. I was pondering the song the next day travelling to work when I noticed the post box had been painted they where doing that sort of thing to brighten the place up to my amazement someone had painted a large beautiful blue rose. I just knew it was Martin saying I am home John. padraigs quote about forget me nots @padraig just confirmed Martin is again saying hello lyrics of the song below For all of you who must discover For all who seek to understand, For having left the path of others You find a very special hand. And it is a holy thing And it is the only way Forget-me-nots among the snow, it's always been and so it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally. One bright blue rose outlives all those Two thousand years and still it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally.
Thanks John and Padraig for sharing in this thread. Martin sounds like he was a wonderful man and is at peace. I never heard of the song. I love the image of "forget-me-nots among the snow." To me, they represent hope, faith, and God's quiet presence even in the coldest days and tough seasons of our lives. And the lyric of the bright blue rose—representing Jesus Christ. It is so good to ponder upon His life, death, and resurrection. I think the song strikes a chord with me because these past 2 years maybe are meant not to be solved or explained, but just lived. And sometimes, in the suffering we all go through, God plants and lets us experience forget-me-nots to remind us that spring and new life is on its way.
Yes brother Mike you and your dear wife certainly have no sorrow or suffering to seek I beg St Therese to bring some joy to you both. Sorry if I have turned this thread into a sing song lol but I have always been musical so maybe I do find a connection with God in music. One of my biggest connections was with a song called Grace it is a song about who in my opinion is a saint and Martyr Joseph Mary Plunkett. I sang the song for years but for some reason I always teared up and choked at the last line. "I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose" It was only years later I was helping mum clear out her garage and she handed me my granny's legion of Mary book and I opened it at the last page. I read the poem blood upon the rose it was wrote by Joseph Mary then everything became crystal clear. I see his blood upon the rose And in the stars the glory of his eyes, His body gleams amid eternal snows, His tears fall from the skies. I see his face in every flower; The thunder and the singing of the birds Are but his voice—and carven by his power Rocks are his written words. All pathways by his feet are worn, His strong heart stirs the ever-beating sea, His crown of thorns is twined with every thorn, His cross is every tree. The song Grace
Yes, Jimmy Mc Carthy has written some wonderful songs and Bright Blue Rose is definitely one of them. I also like Mary Black's version very much.
