Sounds like the Russians found out in advance, set a trap and later leaked the documents for maximum effect. Not surprising given how much everyone hates the government in the UK, I imagine it is very easy to infiltrate these days. Poor poor Ukraine, when the war ends they are going to need a lot of help.

It seems incredible but there are actual people who actually want indeed long for a Nuclear War of indeed to employ Nuclear weapons. I am absolutely fascinated that Catholics (or anyone for that matter) can support a regime which has been allied, or is currently allied to, North Korea, China, Iran, the brutal Assad regime in Syria and almost every murderous tinpot dictator in the world. And then we have Putin's appointees such as the odious and brutal Islamic local dictator, Kadyrov in Chechnya. These people simultaneously decry the 'evil regimes' of the west. But their imperfect but still functioning democratic systems do permit their people a choice of leadership that is denied to millions of the people imprisoned in the above countries. Now we are about to witness the farce of a Russian election for members of the Duma with the only anti-war party banned from participation in the last few weeks and whose leadership is either in prison or soon to be. Medyedev, Putin's puppet has said that anyone opposing the continuation of the war is 'insane' which sounds like a warning that Soviet era banishment to lunatic asylums for opponents may soon be revived. The Uniate Catholic Church fully supports the Ukrainian government in their resistance to Russian aggression, Do we know better what Catholics can expect from the proposed Russification of Ukraine? The Catholic churches in the occupied territories are no longer free to function so perhaps we can guess.

Careful! If your "Really" means that "the West" is as fallen as "the East", and some here claim the Church is on the skids as well, the combination of all three paints a too hopeless and sad scenario. To hold to such a doom-ridden picture, but then claim to trust in the Lord, it just boggles my mind. Christ sits on His Throne; if He is in charge, let us never snuff out "hope" for the lost or the world. May we live lives of faith and love, to extend an authentic promise of redemption to the hearts of all. Pessimism can eat us alive. Jesus tells us He has come so that they may have life to the full. I'm not yet ready to claim whom they are. But I do know I'm responsible to help expand that tally. It is the "Good News" I want to proclaim!
Equating the west with putin, china, Iran NKorea, is indeed way off. Are the problems in the west massive? Yes, but unlike those countries mentioned, we have freedom of religion, at this point atleast we all have the ability to attend mass, spread the gospel, and freely speak against the evils in the west, abortion euthanasia etc...yes there are instances where those rights seem to be being slowly attacked but go live in russia, china, NKorea or iran for one year and you'll long to be where you are now.
I understand and fully agree with you that pessimism can eat us alive. But I think seeing the reality is also incredibly important. It helps us prepare for the worst.
Some of your posts here, Mario, are fantastic. Often they bring me joy, genuinely. And often too, they strike a chord with me; sometimes aligning with particular things or events that are actually happening in my life as I read them. Christ wins. Heaven wins. We know this. But we know also that things will be bumpy along the way; before we see the victory, there will be troubles. Where Christ is welcomed, where the gospel is adhered; freedom is brought. Furthermore, the church is the greatest force for good on the face of the earth. But the opposite is also true. And these days, Christ is rejected in many places. Our leaders, our Western leaders, seem to detest their Christian heritage - to the point of being almost manic, demonic. And now, many people in the West have, strangely, similarly rejected their Christian faith. Our government here in Ireland campaigned and championed the introduction of abortion. And now, not just abortion - but they're pushing for abortion right up to birth (and also, they voted not to give these poor babies pain relief). Our government-backed media recurrently cheerlead these ongoing demonic, government policies: their attack on marriage. Their attack on farmers. Their attack on the middle class (forcing many to work 2 jobs). They tax people to the hilt. Then there is the invasion: whence we are being overrun; murdered, raped, robbed by a foreign, invading army of (mainly) fighting age African males. Installed in hotels, guesthouses and barracks up and down the country. Overrunning small towns and villages. Outnumbering the local population. Hanging around in the town squares, doing nothing all day. Cat-calling our women. Intimidating our population. As a result, our young people can't go out at night to socialise for fear of attack. Our children can't walk to school for fear of being accosted (or worse!) . Our women can't walk the streets alone at night in many places. And it's getting worse. Meanwhile, the government backed media call us racist and far right if we speak out against it. To pay for all of this, our government tax us to the hilt. And they're now attacking Christianity in schools. And probably will succeed in removing Christianity from the curriculum - in fact, they're well on their way with it. Holy days are next on the agenda for the attack. Christian holidays too. Our children will never own their own home because of deliberate government policies, policies that are slanted toward illegal immigrants getting these properties. Then, the church is constantly attacked by the government. And by its mouthpiece, the media. Covid! You know the craic there. They shut our churches and left liquor stores and betting shops open. Promoted the death jab at every turn. Many of our churches are mysteriously catching fire. One of our teachers was jailed for not calling a boy a girl (look up Enoch Burke). His case was a warning to the rest of us! (But the Burke family are staunchly Christian, and are taking the government on, and are an incredible example to us all, well worth looking them up; they actually jailed Enochs mother and brother too. In fact, the government confiscated his life savings and attacked the family with many of the state apparatus). Our court system is compromised. There is no justice. Petrol (gas) is 2 almost euro a litre. The cost of everything is hiked. People are struggling. And winter is coming. Whilst government ministers live it up. We cannot withdraw any significant sums of our own money from our bank accounts. The banks monitor every transaction. And much more draconian controls are in the planning. Then there is the green agenda. And all of the government BS that comes with it. I cannot even begin to explain that nonsense... They've banned us from burning turf! Turf!!! That's like banning Italians from eating spaghetti. Meanwhile, Ireland was always a neutral country. Yet the government are messing with our neutrality, questioning it. Wanting to overturn it. Ursla von der leyen, of the European Union, spoke recently about wanting to confiscate people's savings, to aid a war against Russia. They're talking about conscription too. War. War. War. Is all we hear about on the news. They seem to be promoting it. Wanting more of it. Yearning for it. Then, they have the system set up so that there are no political alternatives. All options, all politicians, all parties are aligned as one. They all agree on war, abortion, immigration, the green agenda, the pink agenda, their hatred of the church, their hatred for family life, their anti family policies etc etc etc. It is truly a satanic, demonic state of affairs. And its slowly getting worse. Many can't see it. It's a slow-creep...... Internationally, the West - led by the United States and Israel, spoke recently of Turkey being next on the hitlist, once, they say, they have Iran dealt with. I visited Turkey relatively recently (with Padraig, funny enough. And later on my own). I met some lovely, normal people there. God bless them. I hope the war machine is stopped before it reaches them. Anyways, you say I have posted, "too hopeless, too sad, a scenario...". Respectfully, that was not the point of my post. Nae, it was to highlight to those that can't see, the extent of the corruption (which doesn't seem like a big enough word to cover it) in our supposedly free western countries. I think they have us fooled into believing that we are free when we are not. And further, they are contiunually eating into our freedoms whilst we slumber in distraction. By the way, the above examples are merely the ones I came up with, off the top of my head. If I (or others here), actually sat down and thought about it, there are many more examples of the corruption that goes on in Ireland specifically - as well as in the West generally. I'm not sure that we are any freer than the people's of the countries that we (The West) have obliterated. And will obliterate in the future.
I do not mean to be against speaking out concerning such harsh realities. For the most part I am focused on the soon and emerging suppression of the Holy Sacrifice.
