And even St. Jacinta of Fatima had something to say about this lovely Madonna. When she was ill in the hospital, the nuns had given her pictures of the Blessed Mother to pass the time. She stopped at this one - Our Lady of Sameiro - and said that this was the image that came closest to the Lady she had seen at Fatima. St. Jacinta died only four months before the official statue of Our Lady of Fatima was made. And Sr. Lucia, the oldest of the visionaries was disappointed when she saw it, saying that Mary was “more sad, more compassionate,” and this one was too allegre (cheerful). “But it would be impossible to describe Our Lady, and it would be impossible to make a statue as beautiful as she is.” But St. Jacinta thought Our Lady of Sameiro came pretty close!
