On Good Friday of 1960, our Blessed Mother told Elena: "The world has become as a flooded valley, overflowing with filth and mud. Some of the most difficult trials of Divine Justice are yet to come, before the deluge of fire. I, for a long time, have advised men in many ways, but they do not listen to my maternal appeals, and they continue to walk the paths of perdition. But soon terrifying manifestations will be seen, which will make even the most obdurate sinners tremble! Great calamities will come upon the world, which will bring confusion, tears, struggles and pain. Great earthquakes will swallow up entire cities and countries, and will bring epidemics, famine, and terrible destruction, especially where the sons of darkness are (pagan or anti-God nations). "In these tragic hours, the world has need of prayers and penance, because the Pope, the priests, and the Church are in danger. If we do not pray, RUSSIA WILL MARCH UPON ALL EUROPE, and particularly upon Italy, bringing much more ruin and havoc! Hence the priests must be in the front line of defense of the Church, by example and sanctity in life, for materialism is breaking forth in all nations and evil prevails over good. The rulers of the people do not understand this, because they do not have the Christian spirit; in their blindness, do not see the truth. "In Italy some leaders, like rapacious wolves in sheep's clothing, while calling themselves Christians — open the door to materialism, and, fostering dishonest actions, will bring Italy to ruin; but many of them, too, will fall in confusion. Propagate the devotions to my Immaculate Heart, of Mother of Mercy, Mediatrix of men, who believe in the mercy of God, and of the Queen of the Universe. "I will manifest my partiality for Italy, which will be preserved from the fire, but the skies will be covered with dense darkness, and the earth will be shaken by fearful earthquakes which will open deep abysses. Provinces and cities will be destroyed, and all will cry out that the end of the world has come! Even Rome will be punished according to justice for its many and serious sins, because here sin has reached its peak. Pray, and lose no time, lest it be too late; since dense darkness surrounds the earth and the enemy is at the doors!" https://www.sunstar.com.ph/amp/stor...her-in-1960-russia-will-march-upon-all-europe
I think there’s a profound lesson to be learned here. When human geopolitical analysis is at odds with credible prophetic revelations stick with the latter. Always. That’s the true, time tested golden rule. When heaven speaks, when the mother of God comes down from heaven we bow our heads and take heed. And to the best of our limited imperfect understanding we follow her commands. What human geopolitical expert could have predicted the fall of the Soviet Union? In the 1960s who would dare state that “ many bishops and priests were on the road to perdition and carrying many souls with them “ and that cardinals would soon be against cardinals “? And yet this is exactly what Garabandal and Akita unequivocally, boldly stated. And in the late nineteenth century who would dare state that Satan would control the Vatican and worm ridden popes would be seated in the chair of Peter!!? But this exactly what was revealed at La Salette. And the pope from Argentina came and the rest as they say is history. Now what about the revelations that have not yet come to pass: the oceans invading coastal areas, Europe being overrun by Russian forces, two thirds of the world population being annihilated, fire falling from the sky, the new era of peace etc. Should they be ignored?
I wish to goodness someone could convince the super clever people at the Vatican of this. For instance to refuse to release the Third Secret of Fatima. But it takes a certain amount of humility to accept prophecy, to be a little childlike and this never seems to happen. It is very aggravating and seems to be getting worse and worse. Tone deaf to heaven. Totally tone deaf.
I think I might be one of the tone deaf ones as many prophetic utterances could literally be applied to any number of historical periods. The only specific actual foretelling of something that came to pass witnessed by thousands was the October 13th miracle "of the sun". I think that's why many people are looking to the so called medj secrets. There's a definite expiry date. It is the deal breaker.
1 Thessalonians 5:20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt There so many examples of exact Prophecies both in Scripture, in the history of the Church and in Modern times coming to past that it is difficult to know here to start. One from the Old Testament was where the Prophet Jeremiah when to a certain exact point in the Walls of Jerusalem and said that this was the exact point at which the Baylonian army would enter Jerusalem. This in fact took place exactly so. In Modern times I think the most exact Prophecies that came true came from Our Lady of All Nations in the Netherlands. For instance the establishment of the State of Israel long before it happened. End of WWII in Europe: On March 25, 1945, during an early vision, Peerdeman reported seeing Allied soldiers returning home shortly before the final liberation of the Netherlands. [1] The Cold War and Communism: Messages described the rise of a "red flag" in China (associated with Mao Zedong's revolution) and warned of global division, the Cold War, and the later fall of the Berlin Wall. [1, 2] The Korean War: In late 1949, visions pointed to conflict in Korea as a precursor to wider global tensions. [1] The Space Race: Proponents note that visions during the 1950s alluded to humanity landing on the Moon. [1, 2] Ecumenical Meetings: References were cited regarding historic meetings between Popes and the Archbishop of Canterbury. [1]
Another is Our Lady of Kibeho. On August 19 1982 they were shown a horrific vision of rivers of blood and dismembered and mutilated bodies. Twelve years later in 1994 800,00 people were slaughtered in a 100 days exactly as she described. People in surrounding countries spoke of rivers of blood flowing from Rwanda.
I am not referencing actual scriptural prophetic proclamations but modern alleged prophetic messages. Imagine being alive in the first four centuries for instance. Or for that matter at any point through the 16th and 17 th centuries. What would you be thinking. In terms of specific times and dates fatima stands alone unless I'm forgetting something obvious. Again, actual scripture aside.
I'm going to qualify again. I'm not including Approved prophecies but generally referring to the main pool of prophecies that are so vague and broad that they might well be applied to any number of possible events and scenarios. I really should have phrased my initial comment better
I think we sometimes misunderstand what a prophet is in Catholic teaching. A prophet is not mainly a "fortune-teller" predicting what happens in the future. A prophet speaks God’s truth and calls people back to Him. The Old Testament prophets pointed toward the coming of Jesus Christ. And Jesus is more than simply the greatest prophet. He is God Himself giving us all the full revelation of God. No one that came after Jesus adds to revelation. God still speaks through people, but As St. Paul warned any claimed prophecy mist be carefully discerned. It cannot add to or contradict our faith. I think the same is true of all Marian apparitions. Even those approved by the Church are meant to lead us back to Christ and the Gospel. They are not giving us a new Gospel or even to be boiled down to predictions about the future.
It is true than the, 'Main pool', of Prophecies are rotten. Maybe in the high 90's percent. The internet has not helped matters along with anyone who can post a utube video becoming and instant Prophet and that's only the Catholic ones. There must be tens and tens of thousands of them by now. It is also true that exact true Prophecies of the future are a good lightening rod or reality check to authenticity. It is the same with mysticism generally, things like Miracles, Words of Knowledge and so on are a big help in Discernment. Deuteronomy 18:22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
I remember watching a news report of the conflict in Rwanda in 1994 and being taken aback on seeing how closely it matched Our Lady's warning twelve years earlier. That's a lovely image of Our Lady of Kibeho. I just added to it a little with the image editing feature on ChatGpt.
Perhaps a good description of Prophesy might be the entrance of the Holy Spirit into the World in a special way, a pulling aside of the Veil if you will. Two good examples of where this can often be seen occurring for instance is in the lives of those with Vocations to the priesthood and the Religious Life and also of converts. In the case of Fulton Sheen for instance: https://marian.org/articles/archbishop-fulton-j-sheen-life-worth-living 'An 8-year-old altar boy dropped a wine curet that shattered on the floor during Holy Mass. The bishop, whom he was assisting, spoke a prophecy over the frightened young boy when Mass was finished. One day you will study at the Louvain in Belgium, he said, and “someday you will be just as I am.” The young altar server that day was the future Venerable Archbishop Fulton John Sheen. His bishop was Bishop John L. Spalding of Peoria, Illinois (1877-1908). The prophesy came true, and then some. Venerable Sheen became a television pioneer/evangelist, archbishop, author of more than 70 books, teacher, and supporter of Catholic missions. Declared “Venerable Servant of God” in 2012 for his life of “heroic virtue,” Archbishop Sheen’s cause for canonization is under way.' In the case of St Edith Stein it was a visit to a simple Catholic city Church. Once she entered she found an ordinary lady sitting there praying. This stunned Edith with the realisation that a person could have the simple Faith to do such a thing. https://franciscanvoice.org/the-witness-of-making-a-visit/ This calls to mind something I read some years back regarding Edith Stein. Edith Stein was Jewish and one of the most renowned philosophers of her day. As a young woman she lost her faith and became an atheist. In 1916, the 25-year-old Edith Stein and some friends visited Frankfurt Cathedral for a few minutes. There she became a witness to something that would have a lasting effect on her. Years later, after she converted to Catholicism, she wrote: "Whilst we looked around in respectful silence, a woman carrying a market basket came in and knelt down in one of the pews to pray briefly. This was something entirely new to me. People went to the synagogues or to the Protestant churches which I had visited only for services. But here was someone interrupting her everyday shopping errands to come into this church, although no other person was in it, as though she were here for an intimate conversation. I could never forget that." Edith Stein was received into the Catholic Church at the age of 30. She later became a Carmelite nun, taking the name-in-religion Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Alas, in 1942, she was taken by the Nazis, and sent to Auschwitz concentration camp. She was one of the millions who perished in that terrible place. She was canonised as a martyr in 1998. We all have Prophetic events in our lives everyday. We may not see them but still they are there. For instance I stayed alone after Mass this morning and after a while the priest came out of the Sacristy and reached out and squeezed my shoulder as he passed by. For me this was Prophetic as it was comforting and encouraging , rather like God reaching down to pat me on the head. If we can't see God in the small things, how will we see Him in the big? 1 Kings 19 11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
So true! And as Catholics we are just so wonderfully blessed that through our baptisms, we are new creatures who are Priests, Prophets, and Kings!
