Have y'all heard of this?

I have thought this about evolution, ever since I was in college. I came from a place of no bias, as I wasn’t even Catholic yet, but I noticed in my biology classes (I was a neuroscience/biology major) that the professors would contradict themselves, and say things that didn’t make sense logically. I was curious about this and asked a lot of questions. They didn’t like that, which confused me. I was always a natural truth seeker, as long as I can remember, and at that time I still thought everyone else was, too. Finally one of them took me aside and admitted that there was no way the theory of evolution could be true and that there were many holes in the theory, but that was the best they had, and the alternative would be to believe in God and they couldn’t have that. I was shocked! Needless to say I have been anti-evolution ever since!

I had always wanted to be a scientist, and was very disillusioned by my college experience. All of my professors and the scientists I met were atheists, but the worse thing is that the didn’t even care about the truth. I thought science was about finding the truth, but in practice it often is not. People use it and twist it to serve their own agendas. It is very sad. I decided not to be a scientist after all, but now I kind of wish I would have anyway, and tried to work for good from within. Who knows, I likely would have been pushed out anyway.

 

What's funny is how your professor implicitly admitted his faith in a Creator. He can't be the only one.

I always knew evolution was evil, but what I learned in these videos about its origin, how long ago it actually began, what the proponents of evolution actually said, and specifically what Teilhard said toward the end of his life about why he taught and pushed what he did, just opened my eyes so much further, about so many things.... I wish I could just sit the whole world down and make them watch it. I can't wait until the dvds get here so I can learn more about what the Church has had to say about creation through the centuries.

I haven't had a lot of experience with actual atheist evolutionists like you have, but what I've run into a lot (not here on this forum) are fellow Catholics who literally laugh and are quite nasty toward young earth creationists, as if people are completely ignorant if they just take God at His word and believe in a miraculous, direct 6-day creation. It's always been strange to me, experiencing this over and over again from Catholics who act the same way as evolutionists--very haughty and condescending toward people who don't believe the "science." This world is soaked in the pride of human reason and the scorn of simple faith. It is barren, dull, devoid of miracles... I wish I could turn all of it on its head.

 

I have never heard of the Kolbe Center so thank you for the links. My husband and I will watch these videos sometime this week. It is a fascinating subject!

Yes! Pride can be very blinding! Especially intellectual pride.

 

Its not about laughing at people it's about appreciating the biblical word in its many dimensions and not being tied to a "literal" 24 hour day interpretation. Some people have the idea that God was just sitting around lonely and thought hey let's do something. One-day he does this the next that etc etc. People have had the craziest of notions. The good thing is the Church has NOT, anywhere, tied itself to a literal 6 day young earth creationist position. Why would it.

sin on the Kolbe website. It mentions that all Christians: Catholics and Protestants, believed that birth control was a mortal
sin until the Anglicans changed and accepted its use in 1930. The Scripture is Genesis 38, the sin of Onan.

I just looked at the location of the Kolbe Center. It is in Mt Jackson, VA. That’s very close to where BrianK lives.

 

I have always assumed that Eden was not tethered in time the way the rest of Earth was, but was a place from which Earth was accessible at many different points in time. That’s why Adam and Eve had to be expelled from it after the fall.

 

Yes, the USA (think Protestant) had strict anti-birth control laws as far back as 1871.

I studied natural sciences and worked in molecular biology. I read quite a lot of evolutionary biology type material. However, I was never convinced that the models of evolution based upon random mutational events could actually work. To make things worse, the key theorms of this branch of science are all cloaked in the language of mathematical probability theory so that they are inaccessible to the vast majority of people. Only the specialist can compete and contribute in this arena and so I got the distinct impression that the wool was being pulled over my eyes; that like the magicians, clever trickery was being employed to keep the unclean masses from understanding where they are being led. But I came to a sort of conclusion that maybe I just wasn't clever enough to figure it out.

One thing I will say is that it is not just as simple as some who reject evolution suggest. What I mean here is that when we ponder molecular evolution we tend to think of these random point mutations in DNA driving changes in protein function. And it seems crazy to suggest that this could result in the required development in function (coupled with natural selection) to create new species etc. But this skepticism could possibly arise due to a too simplistic understanding of the nature of mutational events occuring in cells. For example, molecular science has shown that there are many complex and seemingly random gene rearrangement events which can occur. Whole segments of DNA can be replicated and multiplied many times over. The effect of this is that in a protein with several domain segments of differing types and function, one of those domains can go from having just one domain to say 28 copies of the domain. And this new multiplicity can produce a strikingly new function in a protein. Maybe this kind of thing could account for 'jumps' in evolution rather than progressive transititions through stages. Just saying. As I said, I am not clever enough to come to an understanding which would allow me to decide on the truth or falsehood of evolutionary theory.

Some years ago I came across an article on the Vatican News website about the Church's view on evolution. As far as I could see Cardinal Schonborn was supporting the modern scientific view on evolution. However, they must have removed this article from the website as I can nolonger find it.

On the point about NASA using geocentric models to launch rockets from earth - I think that as Einstein showed, anything in motion can be viewed in a relative manner. It might make sense for them to adopt the geocentric frame of reference simply because from our earth the relative contribution of gravitational force from the earth is much greater than the contribution from the sun, despite the fact that in absolute terms the suns gravity is much stronger. So it may just be a pragmatic consideration which makes mathematical calculations easier, as well as conceptual understanding.

Does anyone ever contemplate what these new telescopes are discovering? What I mean is that years ago it seemed incomprehensible that our sun was just one of billions in our galaxy. Then we learned that our galaxy was just one of billions in the night skies. And now with ever more powerful telescopes being put up into space where there are even clearer views to be had, they are saying this: if they take just a tiny arc of night sky which was previously thought to be devoid of any stars or celestial objects, lo and behold they are seeing billions and possibly trillions of galaxies!!! What to make of it all? Is it true or is it a preparation for the ultimate deception? Alien life? And despite all these vast regions in our universe, we are apparently hermetically sealed off from everything. They are so far from us that we can never visit them or really know anything about them from our present time. But these new discoveries are making even the astrophysicists and the cosmologists very unsettled. The "accepted" model of the universe is about to come apart at the seams. Let us put on the full armour of God to help us to stay faithful to our God and withstand any and all deceptions which allay us.
