F France is the country of my ancestors. My nephew traced us back to The Norman invasion in 1066. He found a William Crozier who carried the cross for Bishop Oddi who was the half brother of William the Conqueror and who features in the Bayeaux tapestry. After that my ancestors seem to have divided into accomplishers and criminals. I like the mix. Jesus had a few dubious characters in the list of his ancestors too. Crozier means one who carries a cross. Some of the Croziers became Protestants, moved to Ulster and then one of them married a Catholic girl called McCiver and that branch all jumped the fence. (converted) A brave thing to do in those days. If they hadn't, I would be a Protestant. They certainly had a cross to carry for generations as a suppressed and oppressed minority in Ulster. Not too far off the thread I hope, an inspirational story for one of your inspirational images. They also have beautiful lavender fields near Walsingham, England, where there is a medieval shrine to Our Lady.
Another of your images shows the Church of St Alphege in England. I have never been there but a good friend of mine Fr Yves Dubois, a Russian Orthodox priest from Bath told me of a joint service there with Orthodox faithful to bless an icon of St Alphege in the Catholic Church. St Alphege was martyred just before the Norman conquest.
Hi, Joe. I have never tried to trace my ancestral tree. However my mother's surname is of French origin.. as it happens. It is also the surname of a Blessed in the Catholic Church.. who knows... Regarding the 'Lavender field' What a beautiful uplifting place. Just imagine sitting there praying your Rosary.. divine solitude! "Not too far off the thread I hope, an inspirational story for one of your inspirational images" Please feel free to express yourself without restriction. You're very welcome to do so! You have a lot of interesting historical knowledge to share. One could learn a thing or two I'm sure. God bless!
