Thank you, David, for the link to the page about Fr. Iannuzzi.

Clearly, the prophetic message of Fatima has not yet been fulfilled as we all look forward to a period of peace and the triumph of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart.

My question related to what Fr. Iannuzzi said in the piece quoted by you.

“We would be mistaken to think that Fatima’s prophetic mission is complete”, nowise contradicts, as the author of this article asserts, the Pope’s words of June 2000, where he stated, “… the events to which the third part of the ‘secret’ of Fatima refers now seem part of the past”. Put simply, with the former statement the Pope is affirming that the “prophetic mission of Fatima” cannot be “complete” until Mary’s predictions come to pass, e.g., the “annihilation of many nations, the “era of peace”, etc. This former statement in no way contradicts that latter statement where he affirms that “… the events to which the third part of the ‘secret’ of Fatima refers now seem part of the past”, for the former - “Fatima’s prophetic mission” - is distinct from and encompasses much more than the latter – only “the third part of the secret of Fatima”.

I wasn't asking whether Fr. Iannuzzi thinks Fatima is only about the past. Neither did my question refer to anything said by Mark Mallet. My problem is understanding how the prophetic mission of Fatima "not yet complete" can include the annihilation of many nations unless our Our Lady's request to consecrate Russia to her immaculate heart was not carried out to her satisfaction. Is Fr. Iannuzzi suggesting that the world will be punished because the Pope and all the bishops of the world didn't carry out the request?

Dolours, note that Sr. Lucia, before her death, stated that the consecration done by Pope John Paul II in 1984 was accepted by heaven. One recent article on the subject suggested that since JP2 spent much of his recuperation from the assassination attempt meditating on Fatima, he realized that in the time since the apparition Communism had spread from Russia throughout the world, so it was necessary to include the world in the consecration and not specifically Russia.

Yes, Muzhik, I read that about Sr. Lucia, and the Pope's reason for consecrating the world makes sense to me.

I have no hangups about the Fatima consecration because I reckon that any punishments will be down to us not praying for sinners rather than a faulty consecration. Perhaps that's also how Fr. Iannnuzzi sees it, but it isn't clear from the piece that David quoted.

Communiqué: on various articles regarding the “Third Secret of Fatima”

Several articles have appeared recently, including declarations attributed to Professor Ingo Dollinger according to which Cardinal Ratzinger, after the publication of the Third Secret of Fatima (which took place in June 2000), had confided to him that the publication was not complete.
In this regard, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI declares “never to have spoken with Professor Dollinger about Fatima”, clearly affirming that the remarks attributed to Professor Dollinger on the matter “are pure inventions, absolutely untrue”, and he confirms decisively that “the publication of the Third Secret of Fatima is complete”.

My simple 2 cents and view: How can the third secret be complete as Pope Emeritus is reported to have said today? Is he being forced to say this? Here's my simple question & point that doesn't make any sense if complete: The Third Secret was to be released in 1960. It has been said when released by the Vatican in 2000 that part of the Third Secret was the assassination attempt of JPII in 1981. If was supposed to be released in 1960 how can part of the secret be about JPII's assisinstion attempt in 1981???? Anyone? Was it to prophisize in 1960 about a 1981 assisination attempt about a Pope no one knew of in 1960. Somethings not right. Only God (and Mary) knows. Peace.

    Very good article.
Once again, in an attempt to silence the truth , the Official Vatican response leaves the reader with more questions than answers.

  10. I agree Mac. Good article and well considered. What a brood of vipers if guilty. 'Complete' only insofar as 'complete' means the Vatican has completed what it has to say, not what has been said. That is not the Church being wise. That is duplicitous if this is what has been done. I am extremely reluctant to believe that the Vatican has deliberately misled us. What would they do that? It is one thing to withhold information because as Jesus says in today's gospel, it may be too much to bear for now, but quite another thing to disseminate disinformation or to give the impression of truth when truth is lacking. God have mercy on the soul of whoever is responsible for that. Could this be the sin against the Holy Spirit?

Old Pope: I would like to release the third secret.

Cardinals Sodano & Bertone: Holiness, you can't do that. The nature of those texts would undermine faith in the Church itself and the new springtime that has been the goal of your entire pontificate.

Old Pope: I worry about this too, but still...

Cardinals S&B: Holiness, can we even be sure that the words of the Virgin are legitimate and were not influenced, even inadvertently, by Sr. Lucia? Your blessed predecessor of Holy Memory Pope John XXIII repeatedly gave voice to these concerns and that is why he and all the subsequent Pontiffs refused publication.

Old Pope: But if the Blessed Virgin wishes it, I would like to comply...

Cardinals S&B: But Holiness, if this message could be misunderstood by the faithful, undermine faith in the magisterium and in the Council, all for words that we could not be certain are are actually the words of the Blessed Virgin, wouldn't that be highly imprudent.

Old Pope: Yes, that is a concern. But...

Cardinals S&B: But Holiness, can you say for absolute certain that these dire and terrible words of the letter of Sr. Lucia are without a doubt the actual words of the Virgin without any influences of the seer herself? Can you vouch for this certainty when none of your predecessors could not?

Old Pope: I don't... I am not sure... But the Virgin...

Cardinals S&B: Holiness, we understand well and share your desire to fulfill the request of the Virgin. But what of the other text, that of the vision? We are all certain that that vision is a legitimate part of the secret and it would not raise any of the immediate concerns of that dreadful letter. And since the vision clearly pertains to the terrible trials you endured holiness, we agree that we should release that document. But since the other document could be so damaging and you cannot possibly vouch for its authenticity when all your predecessors could not, we cannot even be sure it is part of the legitimate secret. If it is not, your holiness, it could do untold damage to the Church. It could even provoke Schism, Holiness.

    Old Pope: I, uh, I don't.

Cardinals S&B: Holiness, to fulfill your desire to comply with the request of the Holy Virgin, we should release that which we can be sure is legitimate, the vision. The other part cannot be considered a legitimate part of the secret...

Old Pope: But what about the good sister? She says...

Cardinals S&B: Do not worry about Sr. Lucia, your Holiness. She will be made to understand that the final arbiter of prophecy is the Pope and she is an obedient child. So let us do what you want and release the legitimate part of the secret, Holiness. But we must all be in agreement that the other text is not authentically part of the secret.

Old Pope: I suppose that is the best that can be done under concrete circumstances. Let it be so...

Why this obsession about extra text or another interpretation of the third secret? Wasn't it all contingent on whether or not Russia was consecrated? If so, it's irrelevant now because Russia has been consecrated and Sr. Lucia said that the consecration was eventually carried out to Our Lady's satisfaction.

A few popes didn't trust Our Lady's word and so Russia's errors were spread, the abuse scandals proved that apostasy entered the Church even to the top, and the Pope was shot. Isn't that enough doom and gloom without looking for more? Pope John Paul 11 complied with Our Lady's wishes albeit belatedly, the Soviet Union collapsed, the cold war ended, and people in Eastern Bloc countries are free to practice their faith. Isn't that enough to be going on with? Rather than looking for texts that might or might not exist, wouldn't we all be better served concentrating on the "Penance, Penance, Penance" part of the message?

When Our Lady said that in the end her Immaculate Heart would triumph, she didn't set a date. In the end most likely means the end of the world. I trust that people aren't hoping for the end of the world because Revelation predicts a whole lot of nasty stuff in the run up to that. Dying peacefully in bed is preferable to fending off plagues of locusts or watching a third of the stars fall out of the sky.

Despite the Vatican Press Office's crass way of handling this, didn't the journalists kind of bring it on themselves by demanding something that they aren't automatically entitled to even if it does exist?

  15. When it comes to matters of faith we are entitled to the truth. Only one private revelation carries an obligation to believe and that is the revelation given to St Catherine Laboure and St Bernadette that Our Lady was conceived without sin. This of course was a long held belief of the Church and us contained in scripture if one knows where to look. So in reality it is as much a confirmation as a revelation. The 5th dogma as attached to Amsterdam may well prove to be another such private revelation that commands belief. Where articles of faith are concerned we are all entitled to truth. Whether we are ready for the truth may be altogether a different kettle of fish. Fatima's mystery is destined to be fulfilled in the Triumph of The Immaculate Heart. I believe that this Triumph is intimately associated with the formal title The Lady of All Nations/Mother of All People. Under this dual title and rank the world assents to the authority of command bestowed on Her by Her Son as the One who alone is able to still save us from the calamities that approach and surrenders itself to her universal maternal care. Of course, the church has never compliesd with Her wish to be acknowledged under these titles across the Catholic world even though the CDF approved of devotion to her under this focus. Seemingly the prayer dictated by Our Lady was not good or clear enough and could cause confusion. That of course is the same sort of thing they say about Pope Francis. So in answer to your question the obsession is about getting to a Truth that relates to the destiny of souls and no it is not too late. It is not all done and dusted. Emeritus Pope Benedict says the mystery of Fatima has a way to go and he prayed for Fulfillment by 2017 which funny enough is the year of Charlie's rescue. I don't know about that but I know that Charlie does not lie. We just don't know exactly what is meant by Rescue. Just a few of my thoughts Dolours. Not saying you have to believe anything........yet.

"When it comes to matter of faith we are entitled to the truth".

Joe, there is nothing to be revealed that will change anything that the Church has always taught. We already have the truth. All the speculation about what hasn't been revealed are apocalyptic theories - no more than a rehashing of what's already contained in the Bible. The Akita prophesy is also apocalyptic. We can stave it off in our lifetime by observing the First Saturday devotions, doing penance and praying for poor souls. We already know the destiny of souls who separate themselves from God. Our duty is to guard our own souls, pray for the conversion of the world and do penance. Nothing can change that.

Sr. Lucia is reported to have linked the secret to Revelation 8 to 13. All the prophesies about days of darkness, tribulation and rescue are there for anyone who looks for them. Perhaps the Pope Emeritus was praying for the tribulation to be shortened and the rescue to come by 2017. He isn't obliged to tell us what he was praying for. The Church doesn't teach pre-destination, so anything Charlie or others have been told can be deferred by prayer, fasting and penance.

The Vatican might well be withholding some interpretation of the secret. This latest statement certainly gives the impression that someone hit a nerve. The point I'm trying to make (badly) is that it really makes no difference to us whether they know something we don't know because we already know enough.

  19. You may be right but Corinthians 13 suggests there is more to come.

  20. There are worse obsessions than the truth!
