I was about fourteen, and I immediately knew that he was too g****mn weird to be looking at my junk. He had two or three residents or medical students shadowing him, all of them perfectly professional in their demeanor, which I realize in retrospect was no mean feat for young men under the tutelage of such a strange bird. The exam per se wasn’t inappropriate, let alone criminal, but Levine had the weirdest, most inappropriate bedside manner I can recall ever enduring from any clinician. All the intangibles that cannot be taught or legislated he managed to completely f*** up. It was a brief nightmare, but it was a nightmare nonetheless. Levine somehow had a good enough reputation among his colleagues in the area that my dad was referred to him by a nephrologist after my previous pediatrician told me that she’d leave me to my own wits on genital problems now that I was a big boy. Those weren’t her words, but that was her maturity level as a clinician. After Levine’s physical, however, I promptly told my dad that he had been a total creep and that I couldn’t stand the thought of seeing him again (or, more accurately, of him seeing me). That was all she, or he, wrote about my involvement with Levine. My parents found me another adolescent medicine specialist who was socially normal, and I heard and thought mercifully little of him until word got around Hershey that he was now a she, or trying to become a she. I was at once floored and vindicated. Levine had been so bizarre and inappropriate in his bedside manner with me, at once unctuous, klutzy, and timid, that his having a midlife crisis and deciding that he was a woman seemed perfectly in character. If I had had to name an physician or nurse from my life that I expected to do such a thing, it would have been Levine. Even today, I can’t adequately articulate what was wrong with him. It’s like Potter Stewart and obscenity. These are natural leaders, people who I have no doubt are mentally and morally fit to hold positions of public trust. At least one of them used to regularly liaise with then-State Senate President Robert Jubelirer. At the institutional level Hershey is pretty dysfunctional, but it has no shortage of excellent candidates for important statewide medical offices. It’s an institution that is less than the sum of its parts. There are some surprisingly good people on staff at Hershey, but they aren’t all above average. Rachel (sic) Levine is a f***ing clown. I think Gov Cuomo is in a very precarious place. He is fortunate that although he does not believe in God, God in His mercy still believes in him so he is still alive and breathing. But shaking your fist in God's face is extremely unwise.
I have a vague memory of a prophesy by Our Lady that mankind would eventually turn against science, or more precisely scientism, as a consequence of its excesses. I have an additional vague memory of this prophesy being discredited. Now, it's beginning to fit. As does the quotation above of Hawking's atheistic, scientistic arrogance. Compare this arrogance with, for example, Einstein's wise humility.
Wow. That's the way it should be. The "West" is currently very messed up and neurotic. I've sometimes felt those effects, or unintentionally contributed to it (when younger). But I've always loved babies and children, the beauty of pregnancy and new life.
The demographers say that this will be the African century. The West is killing itself and China, with its one-child policy over so many decades, is predicted to face a greater demographic cataclysm than even the West. The meek might be about to inherit the earth. Under the circumstances, what can we say but good luck to them. If this African lady is typical, and there is much evidence that she is, the world will undergo a profound moral rejuvenation.
I remember when we commented here that the virus seemed to affect the Chinese genome exclusively since all the deaths were practically concentrated in the country (this in February), today it is unbelievable how the situation has changed and the USA has become the most affected country together with Italy
The thing that I have noticed is that very few reports are coming out with the number of people who have recovered from covid. Also, what proportion/percentage of the populace is sick with covid? We hear numbers but they don't mean that much. It's fearmongering. There is no real sense of putting things in perspective, or very little of it, from what I see. This is just my rant.
The thing is......people love to quote numbers. The US has the largest amount of cases, true....at least currently. America is not really at the top of the heap percentage wise. America is a HUGE country. We have 350 million people. Logic would tell you our numbers would be larger because we have more people. America has also tested far more people than anywhere else so we may be reporting more cases due to the fact that we have tested more people. And China......please...... the CCP lies as normal fare. You can not believe any numbers out of China. They are false and do not paint any kind of accurate picture of what happened or is happening in that country. China lies.
China certainly lied about the death toll, but it strikes me that the virus in other countries in the first two months looked like a common flu and suddenly became a worse threat by collapsing the health and funeral systems of countries like Italy, Spain and ecuador
Now for some GOOD news. Stanford University tested for Covid-19 in Santa Clara County (the heart of Silicon Valley) and found that many more people had antibodies for this virus than what official reports reflect. Antibodies mean that a person has had the virus and his immune system has defended against it developing antibodies in the process. This new study estimates that between 48,000 and 81,000 people in Santa Clara County have had the virus. Official numbers for this county are 1870 cases with 73 deaths. So prior to this study the official death rate was 3.9%. Luc Montagnier, the man who discovered the HIV virus in 1983, and Nobel Prize for Medicine recipient in 2008, says that there is a HIV component attached to COVID-19 which could only have been placed there artificially in a laboratory. He suggests that the virus is a consequence of an attempt to develop a HIV vaccine. Lest we overly absolve the communists of evil intent, it does not provide an excuse for the lies and the failure to prevent movement of infected Chinese all over the world. Montagnier makes the point that the communists need to come clean, like the Mullahs in Iran did over the downed Ukrainian air-liner, which he says earned the latter considerable international respect.
I’ve heard that hospitals are over reporting deaths due to the virus. Doctors were encouraged to report deaths resulting from other causes that could be remotely related as Covid virus deaths. The reason given was that hospitals were reimbursed by three times as much for a virus related death, thus skewing the actual virus related deaths.
