Rod Dreher is credible, despite having gone from evangelical Christian to Catholic then on to Orthodox. I used to exchange emails with a small group of friends in the early 2000s, of which he was a member. He had all the info on McCarrick back then, but nobody would go on record about him. I can understand his extreme frustration with the Catholic Church and his eventual moving on to Orthodoxy, even if I don’t agree with it. He quotes an American doctor whose wife is Chinese and deeply involved in their pagan religion and occult practices. Despite this, it’s worth reading the article.

I agree there is much about buddhism and ancestor worship in the emails from China. I used to see this all over Taiwan which is 90% Buddhist. My son and his wife observe these things. Her father is a fortune teller. ( lots and lots of prayers and Masses and novena go up on their behalf from me) but my familiarity with it reduces my horror I guess. It is a false religion of course and there are NO buddhas in this house although my DIL's parents gave us an expensive one as a gift. This must be what it was like in pagan Rome.
