If he's serious, he is asking the world to self-annihilate. Here in Ireland, most people seem to think that the Russians are the most incompetent military ever known to man and think that they're dying like flies. They seem under the impression that Ukrainians are, in some way, immortal and don't die in battle, at all. They are all of a black and white, NATO=good, Putin=Hitler, mindset. They think that Ukrainian victory is somehow inevitable (on the other hand, it could be argued that China has been sitting on the fence and has finally decided to back the other horse-it is also arguable that this is an act of desperation on Zelensky's part, because Biden possibly didn't tell him what he wanted to hear). To point out, here, that there might be conflicting reports will lead to one being dismissed as a Putin apologist or a Russian propagandist. The good faith of our own media is unquestioned by most people here, or at least those prepared to give an opinion.
You are so right, these are terrible conditions, many of them man-made. It's the same here. more and more people can no longer afford basic necessities like food, heat and electricity. The top 20 countries with the highest military spending spend over 2 trillion dollars a year on armaments. I have often thought about what could be done with that money. In addition, in the industrialized countries, about 50% of all food is thrown away. If the will were there, it would not be so difficult to help many people.
I look around and see the madness around us, the uncertainties, the specter of war. And then I look at the most precious jewel, the Mother of All Peoples, the Queen of Heaven. And all is well.
Yes, this world and the things of this world are ever passing. I read a lovely chapter this morning from St Robert Bellarmine on the joys of our Memories when we reach heaven. We will see how on countless occasions God saved us from hell. We will also see how all things we thought bad and unjust in this life served as ladders to lead us to heaven. Perhaps open day when the jig saw puzzle of life is explained to us up there how even a Third World War serves God's Plans, despite Satan. After reading this, my impression is that we are currently in a "Cuban Missile Crisis" type situation, but worse. And unlike then, most don't seem to understand the gravity of it......I hope I am wrong
