Every year our Cathedral hosts a flower show with various themes. This year the theme celebrates classic films. As you can see, they decided to suspend a mannequin dressed as Mary Poppins from the ceiling of the nave. There are pagan statues in a side chapel where they honor the movie, The King and I. There is a mannequin dressed as Queen Elizabeth I. There is a mannequin dressed as Gypsy Rose Lee, The characters from Grease... The list goes on. All of this required that the Blessed Sacrament be removed during the display, but during the Masses, the displays will remain. I don't know how to start a new thread. Could you share this with the rest of the people here. I feel like this is a horrible abomination, but would like the opinion of others. Everyone should know that the church loses money during this event, and profits nothing.
Yes...of course this is an abomination. Who's idea is this...Jesus threw the bankers out of the temple with his bare hands. I pray who ever has done this be chastised and be converted of heart.
Ranting Catholic Mom asked me to put this up. I was delighted that others thought the same as this kind of thing seems to be just taken for granted nowadays.
Is this a wind up. I have never heard of such madness. No doubt conceived by the empowered lay faithful on the parish council.
Truly awful. There is no valid excuse for doing something like this. But we are living in end times when many frightening prophecies are being realized. Our job is to remain in the boat, remain calm and not become anxious, voice our concerns to the priests in charge, and pray and fast and surrender the situation to God. Come Lord Jesus, come and renew Your church!
I'm trying to figure out what a flower show has to do with classic films, and how does that tie into church? I am like, what are they thinking?
I wonder if the reason why they do not respect Sacred PSace is that they are not in contact enough with the Sacred..in other words that they are not praying enough and so have not inner eyes fort he Real Presense? I have heard of Protestants who have been concerted simply by walking into a Catholic Church and feeling the Presense. Just this weekend I was listineing to EWTN's, 'The Journey Home', and a testimony was given by a Catholic Seminarian who was a fromer Evengelical Baptist seminarian. One of the keys to his conversion was having visited St Patricks Cathedral in New York as a child. Later he was invited to attend a Catholic Mass and this changed his life. Its not just the big things, its the small, if people had a great sens eof the presense of God they would tak a lot less in mass as well. I am off on a rant. I don't mean to be judgemental, the good Lord knows I have enough to repent off myself. It is just a thought. If we don't place a finger on the root of the problem how would we fix it. If I were a priest or Bishop to fix these things I would bring in 24 hours Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction , prayer groups, processions, etc.
I think the simple fact of the matter is that people are divorced from the very idea of the Sacred. The notions of sacred space, time, objects etc are alien to them. The sacramental vision of reality which is a metaphysical cornerstone of the faith is absent in most people's hearts and minds. The world is only an accumulation of matter. There is nothing beyond the veil; in fact there is no veil. I recommend a book by James Hitchcock called Recovery of the Sacred. Joseph Ratzinger s The Spirit of the Liturgy is also an excellent read. We cannot underestimate how devasting the unprecedented changes to the entire fabric of the Church's liturgy have been on faith and morals. There is not much separating us from protestants in our attitudes, belief, and reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist.
