Bugnolo is a nobody. The priest is an ordained servant of God with a duty to defend the Faith.

Our view of abortion speaks to a very fundamental part of Catholic teaching. Either we believe that every baby is conceived with an immortal soul or we don't. Either we believe that God created us to know, love and serve him here on earth and to be happy with him in Heaven forever or we don't. I'm the wrong side of 70, putting me in the at risk category for this virus. I have had my opportunity to know, love and serve God here on earth. Babies aborted in the name of science or for any other reason dreamed up by the servants of Moloch are denied that opportunity. Abortion also thwarts God's will for those babies. We know the harm it does to the victims in this life. We won't know until the next life what are its eternal effects.

Ordination gives nobody the right to mislead people. It is high time we stopped making excuses for clerics at any level who gloss over the harm intrinsic evil like abortion does in undermining the Faith.

Unless he lives in a Patheos bubble, the priest can't have been unaware of how his error was used to support a narrative of bullying being the right thing to do.

I agree with you about the issue of abortion, completely.

I'm afraid that too many of our clergy don't believe. Sure, if you were to ask them, they would put hand on heart and declare their faith in it, but all to often their words and actions belie that faith.

The current backing off on Church teaching about contraception and abortion reminds me of what Jesus said to the pharisees about divorce. Jesus didn't blame Moses. Moses had relented to pressure coming from the hardness of people's hearts. I'm sure that didn't happen overnight. There must have been plenty of arguments made for the supposed greater good using situation ethics to justify it. Moses permitted divorce but Jesus made it clear that what had been believed from the beginning was God's will. Looks like we have already reached a similar stage on contraception, an official pronouncement being all that's lacking to make it a done deal. Abortion is hot on its heels. Mercy for everyone except the innocent victim, using situation ethics to justify it.
