From Fr. Valentín Marichalar Torres personal Journal, July 1961 “July 24th. Jacinta told me that they asked her if the Virgin would come the next day in the morning, afternoon, or at night. She said in the afternoon, and the Angel and the Virgin said only in the afternoon. Jacinta said that the Virgin told her other things that she couldn't tell me. Jacinta didn't receive Communion because she'd received Communion at mass. Conchita says that she asked the Angel and the Virgin if they were coming in the morning, afternoon, or at night. The Virgin answered that they would come to the pines during the afternoon, and that the girls should bring Lucia. The girls said that it seemed the Virgin was more determined, and stronger, and told them more important things, twice as important. They didn't know who would come or what would happen on the 18th of October, but they asked the Virgin if she would come the rest of the week. They said she used to tell them that she would come every other day, but then they would ask her to come every day and she would say yes. One day, in the pines, the Virgin and the Angel said that they were only going to come every ten days. The girls asked them to come every day, since waiting one day was long enough. They received Communion in church, so they did not receive it from the Angel.”

On the following Wednesday, July 25th, all over Spain there was a big celebration: the feast day of its patron and Father in the Faith, the Apostle St. James. It was the second time during the apparitions that this holy day took place in Garabandal. Would something happen on this day? Leafing through a mixed-up stack of references and testimonies referring to this time, I found this statement from María Herrero de Gallardo, who wrote down what she heard from Father Valentín months later: “You see, Señora, that at times I tell you things that I don’t tell anyone else, since I know that you receive them well and think about them, while many others find them ridiculous. For example, I remember the feast day of St. James the Apostle. It was almost midnight and about twenty people were watching the girls’ ecstasy. At times I looked at the sky, a beautiful summer sky covered with stars, with here and there a little white cloud drifting by. Suddenly — I saw this with my own eyes, and the persons that I mentioned also saw it — our patron St. James appeared on a beautiful white horse, like the tradition described in Spanish history. For a few minutes he seemed to make a path across the sky, disappearing at times behind white clouds and reappearing again. Glenn, I would like to ask some questions about the miracle. I didn't find it on the last pages of this thread, so if I missed it, I apologise. I think it is said that everyone who will be present at the miracle in Garabandal will get well. And that it will be difficult to get to Garabandal. Do you have any quotes or statements in this context? God will certainly make it possible for the people who are to make it to Garabandal to do so. Can it be ruled out that people could not, for example, also become healthy through a TV transmission? The further away you live, the more difficult it is from the start. (I plan to be there, by car, God willing)

This is a collection of facts given by Fr. Valentín Marichalar Torres, from his personal Journal, July 1961. "On July 26, 1961, Loli and Jacinta were at the Calleja at 12 o'clock and they felt the call as always. They received Communion and they saw the Virgin, the Infant, and the Angel. They said that sometimes the Virgin didn't bring the Infant, and other times she would let them hold him: first Jacinta and then Loli. The Infant wears a crown and feels like a human child; he is wrapped in a blanket. They were there for about 18 minutes, and they prayed a station. When they prayed, they saw the Infant once again. They said that he was covered with a blue blanket and that his robe was white with white flowers. The Angel told them to go there that afternoon, and they sang St. Michael's Hymn and the Hail Mary. First Jacinta and Loli were in the Calleja and they told me that they had seen Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Angel. First they were serious, and I saw them crying. Then they started talking, and it looked like they were trying on the Virgin's and Infant's crowns. Sometimes it also looked like they were carrying the Infant. This lasted for about an hour, and they were talking during most of this time; it was children's talk, about very simple things."

They asked the Virgin why she was wearing a brown dress (I heard them ask this and they told me that the Virgin replied that she could wear any color she wanted). “ This answers the frequently asked question, how come Mary sometimes dressed as the typical Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (in Brown), and most other times in Blue and white.
TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : JULY 30 ,1961 “Expert Witness” On Sunday, July 28th, there came to Garabandal for the first time, an illustrious priest from Madrid: Father Enrique Valcarce Alfayate. ( A Cardinal for many years in the diocese of Madrid with important functions and duties there ), He made a digest of his observations in a report that he wrote later in Comillas and that bears the date of July 30th, 1962. In it he describes a most remarkable experience: his own participation in one of the girls' ecstatic marches: "After the rosary, I remained praying for a while in the church. Suddenly Dr. Ortiz came in and told me to go outside if I wanted to see the girls in ecstasy. I went out immediately. They were walking with the people behind them. I pushed my way through and managed to join Mari Loli and Conchita, who were walking together, holding arms. Later I was told that the other two, Jacinta and Mari Cruz, were going in the same way with another group of people down a different street. The phenomena as a whole were for me something tremendous and amazing. The fast walk over really rough terrain, almost inaccessible, strewn with the worst obstacles . . . running at times at incredible speeds, both forwards and backwards, as if the girls had wings on their feet . . . with their heads tilted sharply backwards, with their eyes unblinking and fixed constantly on the alleged vision . . . TODAY IN GARABANDAL HISTORY : JULY 31,1961 For the first time, the Visionaries in ecstasy move about on their knees. They recite the Rosary without having learned it, without prayer beads, without counting on their fingers and without making any mistakes regarding the mysteries, as well as the number of “Ave Marias”. Today in Garabandal History August 1, 1961 On this August 1, 1961, Feastday of the Holy Martyrs Maccabees, such a recitation of the Creed by the seers then in ecstasy was indeed remarkable: it was bringing together the believers of the Old and the New Covenants in a kind of joint celebration of their new common Faith. It also underscored the fact that they both belong to this one Redeemer's plan of universal salvation. On this same day, during another ecstasy, Loli and Jacinta were also heard for the first time reciting the Ave Maria with this beautiful addition: "Holy Mary, Mother of God" 'and our Mother' pray for us . . .", an addition the Blessed Virgin asked the visionaries not to use before the Church allowed it, in clear distinction to the previous addition "and Roman Church"! Eyewitness Testimony by Fr. Ramon Andreu, AUGUST 1, 1961 Many people have seen the girls hit their knees hard when they fall and they have always observed that they show no feeling of pain. I have seen them stay on their knees for over an hour on many occasions without complaining of exhaustion or pain. I have witnessed how they fall on their knees many times, including from one or two stairs high, and they do not show the slightest sign of pain. The most spectacular thing in this sense was when María Dolores was on her knees one night and fell forwards, hitting her neck very hard against the edge of the stairs. It made a very loud noise, and her head resisted; the girl ended up sitting on the floor. An exclamation went through everyone who was there, and there was fear in their faces. TODAY IN GHARABANAL HISTORY: AUGUST 3, 1961 NEW ECSTATIC PHENOMENA The swaying movements began on the 31st of July. They were to be the prelude of yet more striking manifestations: the ecstatic falls, a kind of slow and graceful collapse of the children until they were stretched out on the ground. These falls occurred quite frequently. Every time they happened, the girls drew attention by their beauty, their grace and the modesty of their attitudes and expressions. Spectators could not help but be inclined to admire and respect them. The visionaries were always dressed in a most decent way, their clothes covering them sometimes even in a sliding movement opposite to the natural direction of the fall. Mari-Loli and Jacinta were the first to "inaugurate" this phenomenon; they would remain stretched out some ten minutes in this astonishing position. Brigadier Secco heard Mari-Loli asking her Vision: "If you don't help me, I could not get up."
