RW, I'll pray for you. It sounds like you are at that time in life that most of us go through, feeling the need to be independent but not able to be independent the way that we would like at the moment. It takes a lot of patience but you'll get there eventually. I think that praying to St. Therese can help.
Praying today at mass. One thing has always helped me in the past and that's going to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and having Him listen. I always, always, always wind up loads better than I went in. Sometimes indeed I am shown a direct answer to my problems. It may be that the answer is very hard and difficult for me to take but it is a way out of something that may look like it was a maze. When I was 15 I had a Spiritual Director for many years who I had total, total trust in. If he had asked me to jump of the roof of a building I think I might have trusted him and done so. But the years rolled on and he got harder to get in touch with. Through the years when I needed him he was always there. Eventually he died and told me on his death bed that Jesus must be my Spiritual Director from then on in; that he did not trust another priest to take his place. This reminds me of the words of Jesus: John 14:26 Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit …25All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you. 27Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.… ..and the words of St Peter, promising that, 'The morning star will dawn upon your hearts'; 2 Peter 1:19 Eyewitnesses of His Majesty …18And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19We also have the message of the prophets, which has been confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to this message, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.… ..and the words of St Paul on Spiritual Maturity: 1 Corinthians 13:11 Love …10but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways. 12Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.… So now when I have a Spiritual Problem or even a material problem I take it to the Lord in prayer and leave it in his hands for help and advice. It is a little like cooking; somethings may cook right away some things may take a while but they all get cooked sooner or later and I have an answer. Some things indeed have been cooking in the Heart of Jesus and do not look cooked yet. But there is my answer ; my answer is not to have an answer but simply to keep waiting..and I am happy enough to wait even unto Eternity for the answer to these things. The words of the beautiful true hymn are ever green and ever new..
RW, I keeping thinking back to when I didn't have a car and I remember getting a part-time job which I was able to walk to or ride my bicycle to. I wonder if this is a possibility for you, I hope so. Maybe you can make a list of places that you can get to on foot (or on bike) and then pick a day to make a visit to all of them. I hope you don't mind that I also suggest that you put on a nice shirt and a pair of kakis or the like and present your best self. Most employers will be quite impressed with your initiative. If you don't have a resume then put one together or simply give each place you visit a little card with how to get in touch with you. I also suggest that you try not to turn any respectable job down. Keep in mind that your first job, leads to your next one, and then your next one until you finally find something that you like. I wish you the best.
Thank you, I am trying to do that; after all I do have a devotion to Our Lady, and one of the thing Our Lady teaches us is to dependent on God. Our Lord gave His Blessed Mother to us, so that, among other things it would be easier for us to fulfill this teaching of His: 2 And Jesus calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them, 3 And said: Amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven. -St. Matthew 18:2-4 DR I was also thinking of another passage of Scripture that is appropriate to this situation, St. Matthew 6:26-34: 26 Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they?27 And which of you by taking thought, can add to his stature by one cubit? 28 And for raiment why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin. 29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. 30 And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith? 31 Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed? 32 For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. While looking it up, I didn't realize it contained one of the lines that I have been thinking a lot about and trying to put into practice: 33 Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof. Please pray that I can do better seeking first the Kingdom of God and His justice, and stop being so engrossed in other things. I have improved a lot since blowing my lid at the beginning of this week, thanks a lot for the prayers, they have helped a lot.
Thanks, I'll definitely look into that. I have just today, filled out the paperwork to start up my old summer job I used have a couple of years back. Yesterday I was worried I wouldn't be able to get hold of the person who had my paperwork ready, and that exacerbated my situation, but today I was able to get a hold of her and get everything completed. So now I'm starting to take another step forward.
That's great, RW. Any job that gets you out of the house and into a regular routine will be a step in the right direction.
