It is so hard for a Catholic being a politician in Western Europe today. Pretty well all the Parties believe in Abortion, same Sex marriage and many of them in Euthanasia. Many are actively hostile to the Church itself, one way or anther. How to square this with membership of such a party? I could not do it. Jacob Rees Moggs does. Is it better to be a member of such a party and Government and try to do good ; or to stay on the outside looking in wringing our hands? Personally I could not have anything to do with a party that advocates, say, the murder of the unborn. But I do not judge Rees Mogg. maybe he is right and I am wrong. But I have always been afraid of being sent to hell.
I have watched a few other interviews of him since this one and I am pretty convinced he is a good Catholic. My guess he is being prudent and staying somewhat in party line with the hope of making great changes from the inside. I hope. I am always wary of such wealthy people but there is something different about Jacob Rees Moggs.
There is no percentage in being an overt Catholic nowadays. You kin of paint a target on your back in politics, so I take it he is in good Faith.
