I know many members have gone to bed, but here on the east coast of the USA, Geralyn and I recently returned from celebrating the 40th Day of Christmas: the Feast of the Presentation, which took place at 5:30 this evening at St. Mary's in Oswego, NY. The two priests who concelebrated, Frs. Morsette and Wuers, were ordained together on this day in 1963! Imagine, 60 years of priesthood! Both are holy men. There were two beautiful Christmas trees lit up with white lights, and over 100 candles lit around the altar and ambo in this gorgeous Church built over 125 years ago by German immigrants. The organ and choir helped make it a truly marvelous Holy Sacrifice! Sts. Simeon, Mary, and Joseph, pray for us!
Sounds beautiful! I think this day is also called Candlemas…to remind us that the Light has come into the world. Interesting also is this date is 1/2 way between darkest day of year (Dec 21) and spring (Mar21) when light and dark hours are same. So light is overtaking the darkness!
I'm glad I was still awake to see this tonight. I had a particularly difficult day, and this lifted my spirits. What a joyous and special way to celebrate this Feast day, God bless these two holy priests. We leave our little Nativity scene up until Candlemas, it's presence is so comforting.
It's also the feast of Our Lady of Good Success (or the Good Event), so we set out our OL of Good Success statue, lit a candle blessed last Candlemas, and our oldest led us in the rosary tonight. We had much to thank her for...a healthy almost 2-week-old...and tomorrow we close on our house and 10 acres in the country.
